We officially need to ditch HHVM

Practically none of the mods I want to install are working and I even had to re-install the entire board then restore the theme from an older backup when I tried to install one of the mods (I forgot which one, but the entire board ended up into white screens of death). In some other cases, some mods don't even do anything at all, even on the default them. Example: Stop Forum Spam, which changes absolutely nothing at all.If you check SMF website, you will notice that there is only 1 single post m...

Dillema about skin background color

So I worked a bit on the forum theme last night, the hardest part being figuring out how to center the logo (something unusual on a SMF forum) and the theme is far from finished. However, I was unsure about what background color to choose around the site. Currently it's dark turquoise or something, but would people prefer something different and what? What I know, though, is that using the same green as the inner logo green looked ugly, though, and a gray-ish green looks more like an hospital su...

Rizon

I was wondering if it would be worth it (and safe) to have a #CodeWalrus channel on Rizon network, assuming they allow bots like OmnomIRC? I was wondering because back then, a lot of calculator users originated from there, including Juju IIRC. However I heard stories about trolling there. This would mean that #CodeWalrus is reachable via 4 networks.

Codewalrus Website Promotion (video)

This topic was created because of a staff discussion regarding a promotional video. This video is to be aired at the websites launch date. This video and other promotional material should target programmers, calculator enthusiasts and also hardware tinkerers. It can also show off some of our other community interests such as drawing, animation, music etc. What should this video be like? What should be in this video? Who can supply interesting and relevant footage?Share your ideas on how to promote...

TI-Story page

I made a TI-Story page about CW and updated my author page earlier today, now that I am able to edit stuff again there: also edited the Omnimaga page because the staff list was outdated.I don't know if anything is missing, but if you can edit stuff there and want to add more or fix stuff, then feel free to do so.Of course, for programs and group contributions, we gotta release stuff first, though.

HCWP site launch?

Ok, so I have a video presenting the website and Manycam on my computer. What I was wondering is if Google Hangouts kicks you out for inactivity after 2.5 hours like IRCCloud does? Because if it doesn't do so as long as you're streaming, I was thinking of setting up a CodeWalrus launch event on HCWP this evening.Basically, at 4:30 PM GMT-5 (9:30 PM site time and 10:30 PM for our French/Dutch members), I would launch a modified version of the video that has 2 hours 27 minutes of no audio nor any ...

Quick Reply

Is there a setting somewhere to have quick reply enabled by default? I usually type posts up in the quick reply box and then preview them if I feel the need before posting. It seem really odd to have it hidden by default, and I'd assume there was an option to have it visible. Am I missing something obvious?

Why does Recent Posts always go to the last post?

Hi! I didn't see any general site help topic, so I thought I could make a topic about this problem I've been having. Like with most forums I'm on, I try to read all new posts, and I've been using Recent Posts to do this. However, when I click a topic link, my browser always scrolls down to the last post in the topic, regardless of how many unread posts there are, which makes it annoying to keep track of what I need to read to catch up. Am I doing something wrong, or is this not working like it s...

Should we do community news? (eg Nspire downgrades, major releases, etc)

Since this is supposed to be a programming team for the time being, my initial goal was to at least make news about our own material and site updates, but nowadays, the only site to have smaller news like Nspire downgrades is TI-Planet (they are the only ones to have newsed about OS 3.9.1 downgrade, for example). So far, our only community news plans were to be Project Periodical.I don't really want to take on the job of news editor again because it's too tedious, but with our "ADD TO ARTICLES" ...

International board/topics?

What you think about it? The current idea is to not create boards right now, but to allow people to post in another language, but you'd have to prefix your title with or or something like that. If it's popular then we might consider creating some boards for that. That would be nice to attract some international users.

Watch out before deleting bot accounts! (risks of false positives)

The other day, Netham45 signed up but his account landed on the spam account page, with a yellow icon because it could not be checked. Also, sometimes, accounts will have a blacklisted IP, but their email won't be. In some cases, the last time a blacklisted IP matched a spam account will date back several months ago, which implies that it is not 100% guaranteed to be a spam IP anymore (especially with rotating IPs).This is why before deleting accounts you should make sure that it's not a false p...

SMF 2.0.10

Juju or Streetwalrus :I downloaded SMF 2.0.10 package in the package manager. It has to be installed like a regular mod package. No error/warning about conflicts show up when I scan the files. However, it seems to require FTP write access to alter some of the files. So basically, could you install this SMF patch for me? It is supposed to fix some SMF 2.0.9 bugs.TIA.

Post stats graph (with averages)

Back in late 2011, Juju made a post statistic graph script like what Kerm had on Cemetech since 2010 or so, which displays forum daily posting statistics since opening. That graph is used on Omnimaga and was implemented by Juju, but he was demoted in March 2012 so the version we got is not as recent as theirs. However, they removed trend lines/averages, for some reasons, although they fixed missing 0-post days, so we got the trend lines back, at the cost of skipping 0-post days (although it's no...

This was brought up a while ago, but back then there was no IRC <-> Telegram relay bot. Now there is one it seems, at , called Teleirc.Since we got plenty of users who prefer Telegram over IRC/WalrusIRC, I am wondering if we should have a Telegram channel relayed to #CodeWalrus ? It could be the existing Telegram group, which is restricted to certain users, but if people there don't want the group to have more people in, could we use it instead? A lot of activ...

PHP 7, other new technologies of 2015 and CodeWalrus

I was reading about it, and I think that impacts CodeWalrus in the future, so figured I should discuss of it in this thread. PHP 7 PHP 7.0.0 alpha 2 recently came out, so this means PHP 7 will come out real soon (more specifically on November 12, 2015, coincidentally on the first anniversary of the CW forum). It brings quite a few new features, such as being twice as fast as PHP 5.6, full 64-bit support and a few new OOP features. So of course it will be worth a try once it will come out in...

Hello!I was having the idea of allowing some certain, trusted people (The original 5, Elite Coders and Moderators) to use javascript-free HTML in posts to allow them to format their posts better. There are plugins / mods which strip any Javascript and object tags from the HTML.I hope you all like the idea and accept it.Cheers!

Sub-domains not working

Streetwalrus do you know when (or if?) the sub-domains such as djomnimaga.codewalr.us will ve fixed to work again? You fixed them on August 8th but the data loss nullified your fixes. Some images for CW site are hosted there since I don't have write access to the main folders, because I sometimes update the site very fast, before you guys have time to upload them yourselves. And now some images such as contest banners are missing due to the sub-domain name not working.

CW mailing lists-style and IRC<>forum integration functionality?

So I found this on SMF: , it adds mailing lists functionalities to SMF forums, allowing people to participate to the forums via e-mail and vice-versa. In other words, people would be able to use CodeWalrus like the good ol' ticalc.org mailing lists back in the days. You would basically be able to reply to any topic via e-mail, but your e-mail address would most likely be shown. This feature would be handy for the people who don't l...

Ideas to improve CodeWalrus, short term 2015

So I am creating this thread to see if any of our current members have ideas that could improve CodeWalrus. What we are looking at are ideas that will keep people interested in contributing or even bring new members. Basically, we want you to tell us how much we have screwed up. Think of it as a mini-survey, but in the near future I might actually do multiple surveys that are actually more elaborate, like the one @happybobjr did a few years ago on Omni. I also want to make a demographics survey...

(POLL) Which Featured projects layout do you prefer?

The featured projects section is getting quite large and I do not want to single out any project just to keep it small. However, it makes the board longer to scroll and some people might find it harder to navigate that way. So I am wondering, would you prefer that the projects section continue looking like this? Or would you prefer that it becomes more compact, like this? (all projects, including the non-project-specific sub-forums, would be listed below...

(Note to members, visitors and other site members, this topic is not intended to attack specific calculator sites or members or claim any site as inferior or superior. Any event described below happened or were perceived that way between 2011 and 2014 and we are simply posting this because since the Pimathbrainiac incident, more and more people have been asking why CW opened. Like/Flag as Abusive buttons require high accuracy

As I've mentioned in IRC, I have some troubles with the 'Like' and 'Flag as Abusive' buttons. It's quite easily to hit the wrong button, which isn't very nice. Here's a picture to illustrate my issue: So, I'm running an Ubuntu with Chromium and I also have tested with Firefox - both have this problem. I'm not sure if this is just me or a bad button design. Maybe you can put a border around it, or add some more whitespace to like? I don't know if it is pos...

Flair Problems

On the CodeWalrus forums, whenever I click on the blue "ti-83+/84+" flair (flairs - is that what they are called?), I am taken to a new tab entitled "Set Search Parameters." There, I am told that there was a search for " ", which evidently does not follow the rule that Each word must be at least two characters long . So for a while, I was wondering if it would be fun to have some semi-official rotating slogans near or over the site banner, while not removing the text below the banner? I am unable to join #CodeWalrus right now, because the channel limit is set too low.
