Super Mario now available on the TI-84 Plus CE with level editing

For years, the TI-84 Plus series had access to Super Mario 1.2 and 2.0 by Sam Heald, a long-time classic for older calculator models. Unfortunately, TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition users were left in the cold due to the calculator's short lifespan (it was discontinued after only two years), its extremely poor performances and arguably the lack of viable C programming and libraries for it, all of which made developers skeptical about whether that platform could support a side-scrolling platformer. Fo...

HP FOR loops slowing things down?

Ok, so after some tests, it seems like on the HP Prime, if you decide to make a game utilizing tilemaps, then if you want a fast speed but need to update the entire screen every frame for whatever reason (eg a parallax background), you will need to pre-render the entire level map into a massive GROB, then only draw the 320x240 chunk you need on top of the background. That's unless, of course, you don't need to redraw the entire map every frame (in which case it should be much faster).Otherwise, ...

Have you ever met a calculator community member in real life?

See topic title. I was wondering if any of you ever met other community members in real life? I am talking especially about people you originally met online, then later saw them in person (such as during a trip).I know that some Omnimaga and Cemetech staff often meet each others at Maker Faire in September and that past ticalc.org staff often met each others as well. In my case I met Aaroneusthegreat in 2009 and I often see Juju since late 2010. Juju also met Deep Toaster (formerly Deep Thought)...

Ticalc POTY 2014 now underway :D

Ok so if you haven't checked ticalc.org yet, the 2014 Program of the Year award has begun! Obviously, the first poll is for the TI-83+/84+ category, and assuming POTY works the same way as previous years, the survey will probably run for 1 week. Then the TI-84+CSE category will follow, then the TI-Nspire.Anyway, here are the TI-83+/84+ programs participating this year:Axio Man! ...

BTW, are you ever going to finish SSBO? If you win TI-C 2016, you could finish it for the CE series. Lol, suddenly off-topic Well I didn't enter the TI-Concours. First because of its placement (I basically only had one week to do anything between two periods of work, so instead of entering, I chose to have some rest, but if the TI-Concours had been announced earlier (but way earlier, even the unofficial announcemen...

WARNING: HP Prime OS 10077 calc bricking & ICON command to be discontinued soon?

The new HP Prime firmware revision 10077 was said to improve RAM usage and fix various stability issues that were present in previous firmwares. In previous firmwares, sending large program files caused the calculator to become unstable and quickly run out of RAM.However, it seems that the new firmware have made it even worse: When the calculator RAM is saturated, it now ends up corrupting various files stored in your flash memory. Not only this can result into data loss, but it seems like this ...

How did you get into calc programming/forums?

TheCoder1998 first showed me omnimaga.org about a year ago. Since i wasnt really interested in calc programming i didn't join (or maybe i did, just never posted anything). After a while i started making basic programs to make math easier (i was too lazy to solve quadratic equations myself lol). Then TheCoder showed me Axe and i started doing that. When i heard a new Calculator forum was opening i thought that was a great opportunity to get into forums, so i signed up like a month before the offi...

I've just published on GitHub a wrapper for TI-SmartView's js emulators , which makes the emu much more usable for screen-recording purposes, for instance Indeed, when you run the emulator inside a recent browser, it's running much, much faster than from within SmartView (because Java's Webview yield poor JS performance, apparently...) TI-Nspire OS 4.2 released

Bit of a bad news today, as with most TI-Nspire OS releases, the newest OS 4.2 is out for release as of today. Same Boot1 and Boot2, but among the new features we have new IO functions (Get, GetStr and Send) and, most importantly, as you can guess by now, it blocks Ndless 4.0.3, as released last month, without any way to downgrade .So in short, as we say almost every release of the OS... DO NOT IN...

History of Texas Instruments fails (TI versus community)

To lighten the mood up and laugh, here is a topic compiling some of TI's notable mishaps during their relations with the TI community or even their customers in the past decades:1998: "The TI-Files site used the TI-Files name until late 1998 when they were forced to change it to Ti-Files by Texas Instruments. TI claimed that they were cyber-squatting with their TI-Files name and site URL because people could confuse them with the actual TI website (i.e., ...

I am unsure if this is legit or not, but if it is, then it's kinda cool :O !/1170/?topicseen bet it must run extremely slow, though, seeing how slow my Samsung i5510 was. Unless of course this runs a really ancient version of Android, but then it won't be very practical since most people develop for recent versions of Android only. However, the keyboard layout is different, with some features from the TI-Collège Plus being available. In addition to that, the APPS key was moved elsewhere on the French model. Also, good new...

Librecalc is dead D:

Well... it seems that the new French exam restrictions coming in place in 2018 have led to LibreCalc demise D: was meant to be an open-source calculator dedicated to rival TI, Casio and HP, but they say that the new exam restrictions goes against their wishes of having an open calc, so they have stopped. The lack of interest from teachers was also a factor. I kinda wish that they had continued for at least US and other markets, but I guess in the case of USA since many...

The calculator of your dreams (or your fears)

I saw a topic on TI-Planet ;t=17473 and I thought it would be interesting to see what people here would like as a new graphing calculator, what they expect the next TI/Casio/HP calculator to be, in terms of technical specs (eg processor name, speed, RAM, flash, etc). Make sure to be somewhat realistic, though, perhaps basing yourself on past TI calculator releases or smartphone attempts at dabbling into calculators (eg Lexibook).

84+CE to be locked down against 3rd-party Flash APP development or tools?

People on Cemetech have analyzed TI-84 Plus CE Flash applications that Texas Instruments released a few days before. It appears that they contains a 2048-bits signature . The signature key is required to sign APPs and make them valid for use on the new ez80 calculator, and there is no sign that Texas Instruments have any plans to release a SDK to develop such software.Since factoring an key this large is impossible with today's techno...

Today is released the brand new version of Ndless, now compatible with the latest Nspire OS to date: 4.0.3 ! Is the TI community over?

Average activity on CW is worse than it was in September 2014 on Omni and a massive amount of its core userbase already ditched calcs, traffic is stagnating despite september normally being when people buy new calcs for school, and TI-Planet recently announced that in 2016, France government is gonna instate new school programs that makes even less place for TI calcs (perhaps eliminate them entirely).Has the TI community really come to an end this time, unlike in 2008?

WARNING: Do NOT upgrade your TI-84 Plus CE to OS 5.5 and higher. It blocks ASM!

I saw this coming years ago as critor would say, but it is now a reality: Texas Instruments has decided to block ASM on the TI-83 Premium CE and TI-84 Plus CE.Looks like from now on ASM will have to be added via hacking or whatever, like on the Nspire. Hopefully it's not as difficult as with Ndless and hopefully there is a way to get the old games to run on the new OS. But this is bad news for TI development, especially considering most games are coming out on the CE.Source: ...

[theoretical][debate][TI-84+CE]About porting Axe Parser to color calculators

Axe Parser, for the uninitiated (probably the small minority on this site) is a development tool (compiler kit) and programming language for the TI-8{3|4}+(SE) (henceforth the TI-84). Many games have been written with it. Now, those games are not easily ported to any other calculator (they have to be rewritten.)I'm particularly interested in making a port that can run decently on an TI84+CSE. I wouldn't make it myself, since I'm not an ASM programmer (yet), but maybe one day...Upon compil...

A new Casio PRIZM calculator: The fx-CG50

Casio has recently announced that a new Casio PRIZM calculator, under the fx-CG50 model number, will be released this Spring. Amidst speculation from community members that this calculator will ditch support for third-party ASM and C development (which was unnoficial to begin with on the fx-CG10/20, but Casio left the door open on those calculators, while locking it down on the fx-CP400) and that the BASIC language will not see any significant speed improvements, here are some of the announced i...
