Remember that old game you used to play back in 1995?
No? Well me neither because I wasn't born at that time.
But whatever, Red Alert (published by Westwood studios) was one of the games that I grew with, and as it turns out, an open-source remake of it has been around for quite some time.
It also runs the original Command and Conquer (Tiberian Dawn) and Dune 2000.

welcome to the clusterf*ck, I'll be your guide from now on

So yeah, if anyone is interested in a few multiplayer games, I guess we could organize something here or whatnot.

Looks awesome :)

Oh wow I didn't know that they recreated that game. I was disappointed when I bought Red Alert in a collection package, only to find out that all servers were shut down.

On the other hand, one reason why I didn't play much before they shut down is that in every game, I would get nuked or sent a lightning storm before I even got 1 building done. >.< I guess I was too used to the slower pace of the Nintendo 64 Command and Conquer (a 3D version of the 1995 game), as well as Starcraft.

There are community servers around via Hamatchi and the like.

Hamatchi  :'(

Does OpenRA use Hamachi as well now? Hamachi multiplayer with someone more than 1000 Km away is ultra laggy
u/Unicorn May 31, 2015, 07:58:03 AM
Hmm I might try this out if I can stop playing minecraft tomorrow. :P
u/Snektron May 31, 2015, 09:29:30 AM
But since you can play it with hamatchi, i presume you can also just forward a port?

openra has actual servers though

(I should check this forum more than once a week --')

(yes :P)

And I was a bit confused myself about the game's online capabilities. When people started mentioning Hamachi I was worried they were talking about OpenRA as well. Some indie games or remakes tend to remove such complicated feature.

EDIT: Oh right it requires the original CD's. I have them but I hope they run on Windows 7, unlike Starcraft Battlechest (I had to download a different installer).

When I launched OpenRA it asked me to insert the CD or to download a copy of the original game O.O.

if I recall correctly there's a download button on the same page
I'll check again back home

I checked again and there is, but it doesn't have the music nor video files.
