We managed to get ops back on the Efnet IRC channel so you guys are now free to join it again. ;)

Snektron

Ohh nice :P. Still using wirc though :)

Yay! But make sure the bots are stable and that the channel is safe this time. :P

DJ Omnimaga

Do you think I should remove this from the front page until another bot is set on Eiyeron VPS and/or somewhere else? WalriiBot just disconnected from EFnet and with all bots running from 1 connection the channel is still at risk IMHO. We can always put the topic back on the front page later.

Streetwalrus

I've been against Efnet from the beginning personally, for this reason among other things. :P If you think it's a good idea go for it.

DJ Omnimaga

The reason why we have EFnet is because #Cemetech and #TI are located there and will never move. Since many people are not willing to use more than 1 server at a time, we kinda have no choice to use every available network to reach a larger audience. This is why until the loss of ops most of our users were on EFnet.

Snektron

Im surprised they werent on wirc

That is probably because they find WIRC too slow or akward to use on mobile or they prefer idling on IRC. But seriously, EFnet is here to stay and remain supported because most hardcore TI community programmers are old school when it comes to IRC and seems very loyal to EFnet, so going elsewhere pretty much means you are nuking most of your userbase.

When Omnimaga switched to Omninet there was some public outcry at first because they originally planned to ditch the EFnet channel and many people who also frequented #Cemetech, #ti or #tcpa didn't want to make the move. Plus #Omnimaga went from 10 users to 40 in under 1 year on IRC after switching back to EFnet in 2009. This might have to do with how we tend to like old school technology and retro stuff. :P

Snektron

oh okay. i use efnet sometimes too and i dont really have any problems with it

No, that's an human motive to stay on things and do not want to change.

Snektron

I've noticed that, though i try not to :P

There is also the issue that with certain people it's much harder to adapt to changes. For example it took me 6-8 years to finally get used to browsers that lack a classic menu bar >.<. That reminds me, I should cross-post that topic about myself at some point.

Maybe you could post it at http://codewalr.us/336/7800
Nah because it isn't necessarily 100% related. Plus it doesn't necessarily affect just my TI community interaction, but rather IRL as well >.<

Looks like there are problems with auto-opping again. Juju has yet to receive ops since tonight. Might want to fix that to avoid another loss of ops. Setting an extra bot on Eiyeron's VPS would help as well for security.
