Yeah, that's pretty much what's happening. Most Android apps will never make any calls to the Linux kernel, they'll make calls to the Dalvik VM instead, which will make calls to the Linux kernel to do its job. It's pretty much the same thing as the Java VM, and to a lesser extent .NET: unless it uses some system-specific features, the same binary should work on every OS/architecture combination the VM has been ported to. So if Dalvik has been ported to QNX or Fuchsia or even Windows (I think it's pretty much what's happened with BlueStacks), its apps should work fine.

  • Consoles, mobile devices and vintage computers owned: A lot
