OMG! Starcraft is now Free to play! The game came out in 1998 and used to be paid, but just like Starcraft II, they have now made it free (although unlike SCII where the Free version has limited features, this seems to be the full game). So in other words, if you liked SC go download the original game now and maybe we could play some games together at some point like back in the days

In addition to that, the patch (version 1.18) improves Windows 8.1 and 10 compatibility, although I dunno by how much. It also adds a windowed mode and improves various other things.

You need to use "Run as Administrator" to apply the patch.

A 4K remaster is supposed to come out later this year.

I'm so hyped for this. I lost my install disk forever ago, so I'm really glad I can download this now and play it!

I still got my discs, but the installer is Windows XP or older only. I had to get a new serial on the site and new installer. It was still a well worth $29.99 investment back in 2004 and I'm glad Blizzard is extending the life of this classic by offering it to everyone in anticipation for the HD remaster

Sucks they still delete accounts after 3 months of inactivity, though. I had over 400 games on US East IIRC D:

Hey, that's pretty cool! I'll install it this evening in Wine, gotta see if that works :)

Good luck. Brood War used to be notorious for failing to remain connecter in online games with Wine

Wine's come a long way though. We'll see.

Yeah true. By the way, let me know when you want to play multiplayer with me @aeTIos (SC2 or 1 doesn't matter as long as it's not Legacy of the Void (I don't have that expansion)

I've tried playing Starcraft 2 with a buddy once.
I had like 2 buildings vs 15 and lost quickly. Fun, but
that's just because I he never gave me a chance to learn.

Before I try it out, is the combat RNG for hitting and missing (or equivalent, eg: Determining who wins).
Obviously some units have an advantage over another, but I'm curious.

I always thought I'd love games like these, but I take a long time to think (I'm a Chess/Go/X-com player)

Yeah it takes a long while to master the game >.<. It's better to try campaing and play vs medium computers first to practice.
