While the massive car crash news was fake, it seems this one is, sadly, real: https://www.google.ca/search?client=opera&q=pokemon+go+robbery&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Basically criminals are using the app to lure people into robbery, eg such as spotting landmarks used by the game and waiting for their victims there or such tactics. There were also reports about deaths/injuries by people who tried to catch their favorite non-walrus incarnations of or others. And the icing on the cake is that this app is so popular its userbase now outnumbers Twitter app on Android.

So while I am exaggerating a bit with my topic title, could Pokémon Go lead to a massive spike in deaths and make some countries ban the app altogether or such things? What I think is that the police should maybe use the app to spot landmarks located in crime-ridden areas and patrol the areas in questions a little more often.

Anyway, regarding the game, I caught my first two pokémons on my PC desktop. But I don't feel like patrolling the entire neighborhood to find more right now :P

This is fake, but I wonder if that could become reality? <_< http://www.mtlblog.com/2016/07/loi-150-quebecs-new-law-for-pokemon-go-in-montreal/#

It would suck if the game became illegal, though.

Seriously, Ivysaur, really? ???
Exactly what I thought :P

And people name kids after instagram filters? What? (Google translated that)
u/Dream of Omnimaga August 11, 2016, 03:52:41 PM
They do that too? D:

Personally I feel bad for the kids who will be made fun of in school. If I was to name my kid after a Pokémon I would choose something more generic that looks like a regular name.

So apparently, some people are paying $100-200 to attend music concerts such as Rihanna and Beyoncé, only to end up catching pokémon there O.O

Apparently Rihanna asked fans to not play Pokémon Go at her concerts.

And the following story is fake, but I wouldn't be surprised if that happened in the near future XD

So now I am curious about how well students will do in school, now that Pokémon Go is a thing? O.O

On the other hand if this leads to even more smartphone/tablet bans in classrooms then maybe this could give incentive to ditch smartphones in math and go back to graphing calculators? :P

Haha graphing calcs won't come back here anytime soon. Smartphones are prohibited almost everywhere in schools here. Our school slightly weakened the rules and now allows use of the phone in breaks.
I don't play Pokemon Go, neither does anyone in my class. In my old class, there were some people who played it, but overall I don't think too many people's lives will be affected by Pokemon Go.

that would be an amazing outcome of this mess *-* The current way they teach kids in school really sucks. BUt I dont think this will happen f you take a look at the history:

First they tough us how to use the calculator but told us we wouldn't always have a calc with us so we had to learn calculating by hand, too. Then everyone got a smartphone with a calc and they were more and more used in class, too. But the stupid kids were just playing minecraft (on their phones!!) >.< So they started working more and more with calculators and banned the phones. Now they realized they spent too much effort on calculators and phones and noone can do the stuff by hand anymore so they ban calculators, too...
I wonder if this is going to become a circle or something and we'll soon get to the beginning again...

Well I think it depends of each school rules about smartphones. Many schools ban them due to being a nuisance during class and others during tests, but in some areas we can still use them in class. But I think if a school hasn't banned calcs and decides to ban smartphones due to cheating or being a nuisance, then going back to calcs could definitively be a possibility, especially if TI decides to push harder in certain markets like they've been doing in USA and France.
