Gaming / Roblox, but the details
December 07, 2018, 06:59:10 PM
I started this topic because the site warned me about posting in a topic that has been inactive for over a year...

Anyways, Roblox is an interesting beast. Lots of people think it is a game in and of itself. But this is not the case. I consider it to be a game platform (like Steam) and a game engine (like Unreal). It uses Lua scripting like the TI-sanctioned Nspire script editor. One of the teachers at my school says that Lua allows for-profit closed-source modifications to its code, which is probably why both use Lua scripting. Unlike Steam, however, Roblox famously has its own currency. You often don't buy games on Roblox, instead creators depend on microtransactions. Also, Robux can be turned into real money under certain conditions (officially through Roblox, anyways). This is a pretty good way to encourage content creation, but can make games desperate to sell stuff.

What are your thoughts on the inner workings of Roblox?

Copy Kitty is also a pretty cool one, but yeah OneShot is pretty cool too.

Both were actually published by the same publisher, Degica Games.

Gaming / Two (obscure) games I like

So, I have a different taste in games than most people, apparently, although more people may like these games if they had only heard of them...

OneShot:
A game about an 8-year old cat kid, transported to another world. The world is dying, and they must save it.

Pros:

  • Good music
  • Good art
  • Good story
  • Amazing characters
  • Extensive 4th wall breaks (for those who liked DDLC)
  • Lore
  • Windows and Mac support, Linux soon (you can compile it)

Cons:

  • Kind of a slow paced puzzle game, can get kind of boring?
  • Not much to theorize on
  • 4th wall breaks might be too much (for some people, not to me)

Shoutouts to @Scipi for having the protagonist as his avatar

Copy Kitty:
Another game about a cat, except this one is magic!
This game is ultra obscure, not many people have heard of it...

Pros:

  • Good music
  • Good art
  • Good story
  • Amazing characters
  • Good gameplay
  • Absolutely tons of lore
  • More lore outside the game
  • Can run on basically nothing (512MB RAM, 1.6GHz dual core)

Cons:

  • Windows only (XNA Studio)
  • You will never find another fan (unless you look, but that doesn't count)

Juju's Zarmina reminds me of Copy Kitty, actually...

Also I think I should add that it's warranty is probably over or voided by now, depending on if installing Ndless voids it (I assume it does)

So, I guess I might say that I own a TI-Nspire CX CAS, and that is partially true. However, the one I use is my brother's, because mine broke...
I was wondering if I could take it apart, but I am not able to without buying outrageous types of screwdrivers...

Ok, now to the description of the problem. I originally thought that these problems were caused by Ndless, but now I realize it is probably a hardware issue.
So, one day, I discovered that the screen looked corrupted on my TI-Nspire. I kind of freaked out (I think? I don't remember...) Anyways, once I reset it, it was fine, until it corrupted again. Sometimes it would boot with the old non-color TI-Nspire boot screen, which I didn't think was possible for a CX model. Eventually I had to press on+reset at the same time to get it to boot. Reinstalling the OS and formatting the device did not work. Nearing the end of its life, I had to actually twist the calculator to get it to boot. Yes, I had to physically twist the calculator, which was probably the best indication that it was a hardware problem. Now, it won't boot at all...

Thanks, iPhoenix and Caleb! I have known about CodeWalrus and Omnimaga for a while now, since a few years after I got to the math level where my school requires the TI-Nspire for math. I never had a reason to participate, though...

Hi, I'm TruDev, and just being on this site has made me lose the game!

Ok, let's be serious...

I'm most active on Discord as TruDev#4528. I do happen to be on the CodeWalrus Discord, so message me there, I guess...

I own a TI-Nspire CX CAS because it is required by my school (best school supplies that are required btw).
I am making a Lua game for the TI-Nspire, actually! A post will be made soon, so you have something to look forwards to, I guess...

So this is the time where I wait for replies...
