It is widely known on Youtube that opossums have the instinct to repel aliens. You can now practice your opossum massaging skills on the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition, TI-83 Premium CE, TI-84 Plus CE, TI-Nspire CX, HP Prime, Android and PC platforms!
The speed at which you massage the animal depends of his mood. Massaging too fast or too slow will move the cursor in the red or green and if it reaches the limits then it's game over. This is an unnoficial, spiritual sequel to Hong Kong 97 for the Super Nintendo.
Donal Trump will not be featured in the ticalc.org version of the game (as per their site policies). This game is notorious for having accurately predicted a Donald Trump win at the 2016 American elections, 21 years after Hong Kong 97 did the same with Deng Xiaoping death. Opossum Massage Simulator was released 9 months prior the 2016 US elections, while Hong Kong 97 was released two years (1995) before Xiaoping's death.

10/10 best game ever.
Cool! Is this going to be a news article?
Not now, because the game isn't finished yet. :P
Also, if I ever make a CE and Prime version I might add achievements :P
You know, games like this are the reason why we can't have nice things. JK :P
This does seem like a pretty great game. ;D
I clicked on this thread expecting to see some load of Steam crap that we're all making fun of. I was horribly wrong, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing.
Anyways, DJ, the game looks to possibly be... FUN! I know, sounds impossible from a game that has "Simulator" in the title, especially with the previously mentioned Steam "Simulator" games.
(Man, I'm really firing shots at Steam though)
Like I said, I'm willing to try it out, and before I do, I'm gonna say it seems to be quality, considering you're the one who's making it, and the fact that it takes a lot of effort to create a calculator game, which isn't directly sold for money.
Hahaha this is amazing :D
@123outerme actually the game is kinda a joke in reference to the Youtube opossum massage lady, but the story and game goal was also inspired from Hong Kong 97 and those weird Steam games. The goal was to make people think "Wow, I never thought such game would ever exist".
Regarding quality, it's obviously gonna be CSE hybrid BASIC quality but it won't try to be Big Rigs. :P
I'm pretty sure it would sell on Steam if there's a PC port.
Wow. Can you please add upgrades and Achievements to the CSE version? lol this looks fun :P
I'd like to see the possum bite your face off when you lose. :P
Achievement idea- Pound it! (Keep the possum satisfied for more than 90 seconds)
If there is one, I think it should use the same graphics for kicks. It would be more true to the original. But to get past greenlight it would require promotion, such as on reddit or something, and perhaps more features. For now I am focusing on a xLIBC version, though, which, hopefully will work on the 84+CE when DCE9 comes out

I might add achievements, but not that many for speed reasons.
Not much progress, but I just found my old text file that contained achievements ideas and ideas for perhaps some animations. It dates all the way back in December and back then the game was called Super Opossum Massage but due to some Steam game releases in particular inspiring me, I changed the name to Opossum Massage Simulator. :P (even though the title has absolutely nothing to do with the game premise). Also I might scrap two of the massager sprites that are not used so far, to save space, because I would like to put a :walrii: in the game for one of the achievements.
Stop! :walrii: time!
Keep the possum happy for so long it does the walrii flop.
:P
And you moved this! I was just thinking, tha for a founder who makes a lot of stuff, you should probably have a subforum by now. Will you also shove "Legend of Zelda: Dark Link's Quest on a CE??" in there?
If I ever make a new large project like DLQ, then it will have its own sub-forum. Elite Coder sub-forums are only for their smaller projects (and I somehow forgot to add my own sub-forum despite being Elite Coder <_<)
So, can we get a download? Its seems like you are not... (From IRC)
You know what would be fun? To try and make a NES port of this ;D I'd actually like to try that myself.

There was unfortunately not any coding progress on this, but I finished all CSE achievement icons:

Nice title screen, but I'm a bit confused on that last part...
It's the title in Japanese romanji
That's hilarious :P
Lol, actually the official title will remain the same as before, but in Japanese this would be the title. :P
I haven't progressed on this in a while due to me working on CE Textlib-related stuff, but I recently had an idea for an extra game mode: Once you get all achievements, the game would go one step further in massaging unlikely animals, and the title would be replaced with a textual "Crocodile Massage Simulator". The opossum sprite would then turn green, not looking anywhere close like an actual crocodile, and its first 8 rows of pixels be chopped off, because why not? :P Of course the story would change all instances of "posum" and "opossums" with "croco" or "gater" (sic). One bad move and the game would be over.

That sounds cool! And also, if you plan on porting this to the CE, would you have to slow it down due to the CE's speediness?
Probalby not. I might instead improve it for the CE, if I work more on it.The game is actually intended for the CE in the future but I am trying to make it run at challenging enough speed on the CSE in the meantime.
Here's my own take of Opossum Massage Simulator >:D
I'm providing a Windows version for now but i'll release on Nspire as well.
Press X to Massage and Space to start.
Hope you don't get too mad about it, dj :p

Lol I am ok with it Gameblabla, but there is only one problem: My game is nowhere close to finished XD
Basically, I still need to add the following before it's complete:
-Implement the achivement screen
-Title screen menu (Start, Achievements, Quit)
-Death animations (which will be very elaborate per CSE BASIC standards)
-Implement massaging speed rules (eg sometimes you have to massage faster in one direction than the other)
-Prior title screen, add the It RPG Is! logo (which is pretty much a ripoff from LJN logo, with colors in the wrong order).
-I might actually implement your single-button gameplay idea. I actually like it better
-Not sure about the Trump intro, though, I would like the game to make as less sense as possible, so if I add Trump, then I might as well replace the game character with him <.<
So I hope you plan to update your game once mine is complete. :P
EDIT: Oh I see, it's a different story <_<. But I can't get past the first intro screen D: EDIT Nvm you have to press X. Also lol at the current game over screen.
Updated splash screen and title:
And thus, It RPG Is! was born from the ashes of LJN, sort-of. But now the game is broken so I need to fix it (it now doesn't do the character animation D:). I implemented
@gameblabla 's control system, though, and when the meter goes too high you now die.

That's cool! Can there be an entering animation, such as showing the character walk in thru the door?
I don't think I will add one. xLIBC sprites this large takes a lot of memory. The LJN rip-off logo was added fine because it just uses xLIB Circle and Rectangle commands with text.
This game looks...that's it, it just LOOKS.
Where's a download? I want to play this game to make my friends jealous. :P
There's a PC version a few posts above, or maybe it's in the Nspire SDL ports. But it's based on what gameblabla thinks the game will be like once it's completed, because he released it before I managed to finish the original. :P
I'll definitively put up a download on ticalc as soon as I got massaging fully working, including mood-based difficulty.

Yeah, i have posted the new version with highscore saving for Windows and TI Nspire CX here. (https://codewalr.us/index.php?topic=670.msg35175#msg35175)
3 downloads + 5 downloads elsewhere... i undestand why no one is working on an original project for nspire. :(
I still need to update the game to implement the possum's mood gameplay idea but other than that, it's working.
i bet my butt dj will still have more downloads than the PC + nspire version combined :p
Thanks for the link. Once the CSE version is completed (at least, 100% functional) and that you updated yours with the changes, then I'll add it to the first post and clone the topic in the downloads section.
Also yeah the issue is most new people got newer TI-Nspires and are probably not aware yet that Ndless is compatible, not to mention the Nspire is less popular for gaming anyway. While this game is not meant to be good, it's one of the few original game (not emulator nor a FPS port) to come out on the Nspire so that would be a plus. I don't care much about download stats, though.
I'll download it, even though I won't be able to play it. ;D
Do you mind if I try to port this to the CE using C? I kind of want to see how it will go, as it seems to be a program I can finish. /me looks at FloodIt
That looks pretty awesome :o
Edit: i've tried the PC version and this is indeed pretty awesome :D

dj is in fact already working on a CE version but programmed in Basic.
He had the idea for this game after all... and my version has some differences.
Plus, it would be pretty confusing to have two somewhat similar games with the same title.
I suggest you leave that job to dj and port it to another platform. (i'm planning on a 3DO port)
I also forgot to mention that it has no sound.
And since it was going to be a calc-exclusive, that's an aspect dj did not focused on
so i still don't know what kind of music should i use for this game.

never gonna give you up of course :P
For music I was thinking something along the lines of Crazy bus theme or a crappy public domain song, preferably a very short loop like Hong Kong 97. For sound effects I was thinking of Atari 2600 explosions that plays every half a second during massaging.
Also gameblabla I agree. The CSE version requires Doors CSE, which hasn't been released yet on the CE, but it should come out in the near future.
Sorry for the double-post, but I finally finished the gameplay part of the game. All that is missing now is the Game Over screen :D
What's new:
-The mood meter goes down based on opossum's mood
-The mood meter goes up at a different speed based on opossum's mood (if the animal is satanic-mad, it maxes out almost instantly)
-Animation has been fixed. it was a stupid variable conflict.
-Once you die, the game goes back to the title screen. I was tempted to make it go back to the It RPG Is logo but I'll be nice. :P
(http://img.codewalr.us/opossumworking.gif)
Nice. :)
What do you have in mind for the GO screen?
Same as Gameblabla's version, but the opossum won't be zoomed. I might add gore since he would appear right where the guy's head is.
Okay. :)
I saw the intro at the Arcade, and I just have to say: LOL. :D
Actually, the CSE version lacks the Donald Trump screen.
But it has everything else?
Good news: The game is finally COMPLETE! :D
(https://img.ourl.ca/opossum.gif)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGLkj3CpeIM
And yeah
@Dudeman313 It even has extra stuff. Actually the PC game needs an update since it was made based on an incomplete version of the original. :P
As for the Trump screen, I added it, but it's different from
@gameblabla 's version. I removed most of the background and resized it down, so that it fits in the remaining 80x40 pixels space I had left, then I drew a table with xLIBC rectangle command. The story, unlike in his version, was also left intact. Basically the only difference is that the massage guy is actually Bruce Lee's relative Chin, who is retired and now has good massaging skills, and US President Trump sends him to massage an opossum as the rest of the story says.
Once Kerm releases DCE9 this game will also work on the TI-84+CE. Donal Trump will not be featured in the ticalc.org version of the game (as per their site policies).

Two game modes are available : Linear and Mood.
In "Linear", the game becomes gradually difficult.
In "Mood" mode, the possum changes its mood randomly after a certain amount of time.

I tried to keep the game free of bigotry. I don't want the entire Chinese TI community to turn their back against me or us, after all. Porting HK97 would be different, simply because it was not made by us and would just be a verbatim port. >.<

Well, we just can't have nice things :(
...
But it was funny seeing their reactions when they saw the "free tibet" on my picodrive emulator,
calling me terrorist and all names ROFL
Haha yeah That was ridiculous. Also, ticalc has a rule disallowing programs from depicting any real person other than the author. O.O
So, you can put a picture of yourself in your game, but not a random hobo? :P
I am fairly sure that if the other person is in poor quality, such as being pixelated enough to not be recognizeable, then perhaps it would be fine. But generally I think this rule was to prevent defamatory content, especially towards other community members, from landing in their archives.
That makes sense.
This is actually a great game. Funny, too. The HappySoft influences are strong with this one...all it's missing is a 5 second loop of music that never stops.
But, how do you quit out of the game without using ON? I feel dirty whenever I have to BREAK out of a program. :blah:
I rarely add a way to quit my games besides ON :P. The only time I do it is if a game can cause problems and crashes if quit prematurely. I could add that option if you really want it, though. As for the game I could say it can be enjoyable to play in the way it's a reflex game, just not intended to be very quality. :P And yeah, I had a lot of influence from the following:
-Happysoft: Hong Kong 97 (which OMS is a spiritual, but unnoficial sequel of).
-MEpearlA: The opossum massage lady on Youtube, especially her opossum alien alert video
-Crappy games reviewed by AVGN (mainly LJN "classics")
If I made a console version of the game, the music I would choose would probably be as unfitting as possible (such as this (https://youtube.com/watch?v=EYFXLL09_9w), probably remade in 16 bits or something to avoid re-uploading copyrighted material, or some old 80's acid house song that talks about drugs :P)
An updated version of the abridged version of the game has been uploaded to ticalc.org. Here are the changes:
-The BruceLee's (sic) relative Chin screen is back, but with Chin himself instead of Trump and Trump's name is not mentioned in the text.
Now if this wasn't for the fact I wanted to put emphasis on opossum massaging, this game would probably be called New York 2017 and copy the fake intro that AVGN made up in his review of HK97. After all, this sequel happens in the United States, not Hong Kong. :P

Why not? I kept looking for an exit key to FFMANA and couldn't find one. Like
@JWinslow23 said, it feels bad to not cleanly exit. :P

Cool! And I see the thing with the name. :P
I usually left out custom quit features in my games to save space. I will probably add an option to quit with CLEAR in the future, though.
Another worry I had was how to add a quit feature that doesn't take too much space without leading the user to constantly quit by accident.
What about holding a certain key for 3 seconds?
Then people will e-mail me or post topics asking why the Clear key does nothing when pressing it, because they won't bother reading that they have to hold it for three seconds. :P
On a side note, here are the speeds at which the mood meter goes up and down in the CSE game:
Hyper: -8 +4
Grumpy: -3 +7
Feelin good (sic): -4 +5
Sleepy: -2 +6
Satanic mad: -7 +20
Scared: -5 +5
And both speeds increase by 0.02 everytime you score a point.
Oh. That's good to know. I could only either get the Opossum sleepy or scared. :P
Thanks
@critor for featuring this game and the
@gameblabla 's TI-Nspire version on TI-Planet :)
https://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=201480#p201480
So I was wondering... what is your highscore at the CSE version of this game while the opossum is in satanic mad mood? Mine is 4 points. <_<
Is that just a general question to no one in paricular? Cause 4 is four times better than one more than my score. :P
Yeah, it was just a general question to anyone. I was wondering because Satanic mad is very hard to beat. :P
This games looks bl***y amazing DJ! 5 stars!!!
Is the reason it won't run from Cesium because it is written in TI-Basic? Cos I don't use DCE9 at the minute - I am happy with Cesium. And I read there issues with having the both on ur calc at once.
Thanks. :) It doesn't run on the CE because Doors CE 9 isn't released yet.
It's possible that I port the game to grosged's Sprites library if DCE9 shows no sign of life after school started, though.
I want the full gore / Trump version!!!! Yes!!
Yeah that will most likely the first version that comes out lol. Also the abridged version has the gore in it too (only the Trump pic and name were removed)
also kotu I wonder how Cesium has issues when both Doors CE 9 and Cesium are on the same calc at once if Doors CE 9 isn't even released yet? ??? That's unless Mateo and/or Kerm tried both and had issues, but if that's the case, then based on what happened between Doors CS 7 and ZStart, I think any DCE9 vs Cesium compatibility issues will have to be fixed by Mateo on Cesium side via all sorts of panacea and stuff. >.<
aha
apparently they both use some kind of loader program, which is you one you actually run. On cesium its called 'A'. Its called that onn Doors as well apparently
Oh right, the A issue. I guess maybe at some point there could be a multilauncher so that everyone doesn't have to rename one of the A everytime. Ideally since Cesium has been out for over a year, it would be better if DCE9 and other future shell releases used a different launcher name, such as ADCE9, but I doubt that will happen.
I guess the OS won't allow program names to begin with an underscore... oh how annoyed I am meh ehheeh :banghead:
Yeah true. I wish it did, or at least allowed programs starting with a number, so it was easier to place shell programs first.
Another solution is to call your shell launcher so it starts with the letter Z or theta, so that it shows up last. All the user has to do is press the Up arrow and it will scroll all the way down.
Bump: In case people didn't pay attention to
@gameblabla 's Android games topic at https://codewalr.us/index.php?topic=1607.msg47199;topicseen#new , he has ported Opossum Massage Simulator to Android devices, just in time for the US elections. CE version in the works (in ICE language)
Good news! After a long wait, the game is now available for the CE!
(http://i.imgur.com/rtR8afn.gif) (http://i.imgur.com/nqOOlwJ.gif) (http://img.codewalr.us/oppoce1.png) (http://img.codewalr.us/oppoce2.png) (http://img.codewalr.us/oppoce4.png)
This version is entirely based on the original one which came out on the CSE in February 2016. However, the controls have been changed: Due to ICE limitations (lack of direct input support necessary for rapid key detection), the CE version has reverted back to the original planned controls. Instead of holding down any key to massage the opossum and releasing that key to stop, you now have to press right to start massaging and left to stop. The source code is available in the zip file and here is the download link! :3=
https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=729821
Wow, this is looking very great and I'm surprised it turned out that well, despite using ICE  ;)
Whenever fast key inputting is implemented, you might consider to change it, but that's for later care :P
Keep up the good work!
Hehe ICE speed is quite impressive seriously. I am curious about how fast filling the screen with sprites would be, especially if you ever implement sprite indexes that supports variables.
Thanks by the way. :) I will change the controls back that's for sure.
Try to beat this:
first try?
may I ask how much time you put into this score? xD
also... no... I'll never beat that score... ._.
@gameblabla by the way, what is the max possible score at Opossum Massage Simulator on the TI-Nspire, PC and Android? Does the cursor stop moving faster past a certain point? I am wondering, because I just checked Opossum Massage Simulator CE with modified code to simulate a tool-assisted speedrun, and here are the highest possible scores for each mood:
10406 in hyper mode
10548 in grumpy mode
10542 in feelin good mode
10552 in sleepy mode
9663 at satanic mad
17300 in scared mode
Also, because I did not really expect anyone to get in the high 1000's I made ICE only display 4 digits for the score, so past 9000 it shows weird characters such as @234 or :234. The game is literally impossible to play past 1000, especially with those arrow-based controls. After 10000, the cursor moves so many pixels at a time that eventually a game over is literally inevitable. Here is a video of the highest possible score (tool-assisted):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJJdFgXWbTM
The score/highscore is printed on-screen as if it was text using sprintf.
They are stored inside of a 32-bits unsigned int so the maximum is 4294967296 pts.
also, you forgot the n64 port
Yeah I didn't include it because I was waiting for a version that works in both emulators and real hardware, and I can't afford a flash cart right now to test on real console.
Good news! The CE version now uses the same gameplay as the other versions! This means that instead of having to press left and right back and forth, you can now hold down 2nd to massage. The difference that remains is that instead of holding down any key you want to massage the opossum, only 2nd will work.
I will upload the new versions later :)
The tool-assisted maximum score video is still valid despite those control changes (in fact it's even more valid now that direct input is supported in ICE)
UPDATE: File is now available at https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=729821 . The abridged version will be up on Cemetech and ticalc.org shortly (as always, it's the same, but with no Donald Trump references).
Now you have to press 2nd to massage the opossum.
why would you have to cencor the donald trump reference?
It's not like he's a pedophile murderer that stole cookies or something? He's the president!?
Aren'T you allowed to mention him on cemetech and ticalc? ???
Edit: Just prevented a quadro-post
Ticalc.org file archives terms of services states the following:
QuoteContent depicting any real person besides the author
This is why the reference about him was removed from ticalc.org. With Cemetech, I just decided to not take any chance, especially after the CSE update that mentionned Hong Kong 97 in the file description was rejected a few months ago.
c just got real:

The opossum lady just commented on my video O.O
Wait WHAT? Oh no what are wde gonna do? :P inb4 new opossum video about saving earth :d LoL
We never know if we inspired her or not :3=
She sounds like she wants to kick your ass (more like our asses lol) for what we did.
You're doomed, because of me
By the way, for some reasons, the CE C libraries version 7.6 (Oct 6 2017) or higher breaks compatibility with this game and I have no clue what the problem is, since I haven't programmed in ICE language for half a decade and I only noticed the problem last year. The title screen text colors is broken and the possum will always go satanic mad mode.
But if you absolutely want to play the game on a CE and happen to have a spare calculator on which you have no other C games/shell dependent on the libs, then you'll need to downgrade to v7.5 (July 5 2017) https://github.com/CE-Programming/libraries/tree/v7.5 . It's always recommended to have the latest C libs version otherwise.
The game has now been ported to the HP Prime! https://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=2871782
A Game Boy version is being worked on right now. It will be most likely like the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition and HP Prime versions, but obviously in 4 shades of green.
