Sonic Robo Blast 2 (3D fan game)

Has anybody here ever tried this game? https://www.srb2.org/

It's a 3D Sonic fan game aimed at recreating the experience of old Sonic games, but in 3D. The graphics reminds me a lot of Sonic World from the Sonic Jam Sega Saturn compilation.

The fan game is made using Doom legacy engine and the code is on Github at https://github.com/STJr . It's not finished but apparently it already has a lot of levels. Here is a video of it in action:

I'M curious about how the controls are. I hope they are at least better than Sonic Boom and 2006. Also I wonder how loops would work in this game?
