I like the hate for Excel in the comments. Because tools that make you more productive are for lazy people.

I got mine from Marktplaats, a Dutch eBay-alike, except that products usually don't get shipped - the buyer usually drives to the seller, to try out the product.

For some reason, things like Floyd Roses are often called tremolos, or trems. I'm not sure why, because indeed "tremolo" is a whole other effect....

My advice: Get a used one.

I got a Jackson Kelly KE3 (24 frets) for €180 used (it retailed for about €700) in great state. I just had to clean it and replace the strings. Only thing that's wrong with it is that the tremolo is unstable, but I never use it anyway.

It is possible with a pedal, but it doesn't sound that great. That Dream Theater song goes up into the 23s by the way.

I'd suggest going with 24 frets.

Mine has 24 frets, fairly standard for a guitar aimed at metal

Luckily it isn't my first :D

Heh, chord progression IS metal. Don't mistake metal for djent. How do you do all teh soloz without chord progression ?
Heh, I was more kidding than anything :)

Vijfhoek nice :D. I assume that learning DT must be hard because of the time signature changes.

It is kind of tough indeed - most of the verse before the calm synthy part is written in 9/8, it really feels weird to play.

--EDIT- Quoting more than 1 person in tapatalk sucks...
--EDIT2- Dun ****ed up there

Measures 28 and 30 are kind of really tough though...
I'm currently just playing the scale over and over again until I can play it without even thinking about it :P

So I've been working on learning this part on guitar:

It's the intro solo of Dream Theater - The Count of Tuscany ( ), about 30 seconds in.

It's actually going pretty well, and I'm actively noticing improvement :D

Besides street you should get quicker with learning x) you're still just practicing your strumming while I'm already practicing chord progression :P

Chord progression? Chord progression? Pfft, skipped that cr*p, not metal enough!
Joking aside, I never bothered to really learn about that kind of thing. I just want to play awesome songs :D

Welcome to that subgenre [emoji14]

It's kind of hard to say what subgenres I really like. I have been a lot into Dream Theater lately, like a serious lot, but I also like artists like Metallica, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden (and Bruce's solo career), Firewind, Sabaton, etc... I just don't like metal/mathcore, djent and most nu-metal (Linkin' Park and Slipknot, but I do like SOAD).
