Last year I put in an effort to get my now 9 years old laptop fixed, working, and updated, this being less expensive than purchasing a quality replacement. That November, I got a new battery and power cord(both non-OEM) and clean installed Windows 10 Pro on my Acer Aspire 5735z.

About 2 hours ago, I started hearing a strange, loud, and inconsistent buzz/crackle clearly originating from the brick of the cord. The sound was so loud it could be heard 6 feet away.

A closer inspection revealed that the noise only was heard while the laptop was plugged in, and that in the short breaks between buzzing, the laptop would lose connection as if unplugged. I have shut down the laptop(which was almost dead at 23%) to preserve battery.

If this can be fixed, how? If a replacement is necessary, please explain why. Please ask me for more information if needed.
Thanks! :walrii:

I have this 7" Digiland android tablet that won't startup for some strange reason. I know it gets warm and charges, but it won't display a thing. Maybe the display got disconnected? It was owned by my 4 year old sister until it stopped functioning.

I somehow managed to erase my home directory in elementaryOS. Now I can't login. I do have a backup for it, but I am unable to place it where it's needed because "Permission denied." Apparently, I don't have permission to do anything, even tho I have the only account(which is marked as Administrator) on the Linux half of my laptop. How do I restore the backup if I can't login?

I'm trying to install the Lubuntu OS on my quasi-aged Windows Vista laptop. I had Windows 10 and Windows Vista in a dual boot, but then I realized that Vista wasn't genuine or usable. So, I'm trying to put a more streamlined OS in its place.

I already followed some instructions to delete Vista(I erased the partition & reset MBR), so now Windows 10 is the only OS on my laptop.
When I attempt to install Lubuntu as a dual boot, I am presented w/ a screen that asks me about file partitions that I don't understand.
How do I put Lubuntu along side it?

I have a working Panasonic landline handset w/ a damaged speaker, a Nokia E63 with a damaged LCD, and an RCA recording and playback device.
What can I make if I take em all apart and try to fit things together?

Other / Why I'm Not as Involved Anymore
October 23, 2016, 01:23:37 AM
A lot of you might be wondering why I come and go and don't hang out here as much as I used too.

2 main reasons:

  • Not a calc owner
  • TIME

The first one is self explanatory.
The second one needs a bit.

I'm trying to split my little free time between my vampires and leeches that are sucking it away.
I have FreeCodeCamp, new posts here, a tedious and demanding research paper, Geometry HW, Global HW, 3 books to read in the next 6 days(impossible!), my social life(limited), a project I want to start but don't know how, my laptop's battery and charger issues, changing my avatar, getting my nickname changed to Jkolade936, getting my real picture off of GitHub, getting to know my dad, thinking about completing Bob's Bad Day, thinking about the Axe game I started with @E37 , Robotics class, learning tennis, PC gaming, watching movies, dealing with my annoying 5 year old sister, chores, making more pixel art, checking out @JamesV 's progress on AB5, looking at Valhalla's demo, lamenting over my outdated graphics card, girl problems, checking out @MateoConLechuga 's new progress on Mario CE, wondering if @DJ Omnimaga will make more cool stuff, and being a good friend while sliding behind in English 9 and watching my Geometry grade drop.

Sadness.  :-|
Give me advice or whatever.  :-\

Drawing & Animation / Autodesk 123D and 3D Art
April 21, 2016, 11:45:42 PM
So, now there are a whole bunch of awesome tools you can use to model and create 3D printed stuff.
Autodesk 123D provides a whole lot of these services.

Check them out here: http://www.123dapp.com/

But I'm trying to use 123D Catch, which generates 3D models from a collection of 2D pictures, to create a 3D :walrii: . So far, it hasn't been able to work. Anyone want to try it with these three pictures?

Drawing & Animation / Voxel Art
April 07, 2016, 11:44:41 PM
I made this as a 3D recreation of @DJ Omnimaga 's coloured version of Reuben, also from Reuben Quest, which is his game TI-basic game(84+) that was also remade in Axe(also for the 84+).

Check it out here: http://goo.gl/MJLXD4
You are allowed to edit it, but don't if unless you have a good suggestion.
When you do edit, shorten the new link(because it will change) and post it here along with screenshots.

Web / Hosting an Interactive Google Doodle on a Site

Web / Contact Form Not Working
March 28, 2016, 03:39:48 PM
I'm creating a website with a Page Builder made for the Greater Southern Tier Districts.
I tried to create a contact form, but I can't figure out how to make the form send the message to my email.

Contact Form:

I was thinking about porting some of my favorite basic games, to get past only Text games.
I thought of Shift, even though it's made in xLib, maybe I could draw sprites in pure basic?

Anyway, I found you can draw sprites with the Px-On command by looking thru someone's tutorial on ticalc.org, but it takes forever,
especially on my CE, and drawing sprites pixel by pixel on a 320x240 screen is pretty much torture.
@DJ Omnimaga said you can draw with CE Textlib, and I'd like to know how.
14
So, I've started another project with my overnight self-taught knowledge of TI-BASIC. This time, I've started my first game, inspired by Jeremy Burke's Mr. Bill's Bad Day Out. This story is about his equally unlucky brother, Bob, but with some differences. There will be at least 2 clear ways to win, not just one way to not die, and this is also made "Adventur style."

Screenshots from TI Connect CE:

So far, I've done little, but here's a small demo! I'm sure it's bug free, apart from the missing Lbl instructions, and could use optimization.
It is my second from-scratch TI-BASIC program ever, after all.
Here it is!
15
I taught myself some TI-BASIC programming concepts overnight, and programmed this:

What do you think? I could probably use some optimizations, so I'm posting it here.
It currently carries out the same functions as Nitro_Hawk's Graph Fix program, toggles Plots(on/off), toggles Diagnostics, and "Enters Workmode."

Work mode is just my custom preferred graph settings. I left this unlocked so users can customize their own WorkMode, but I don't know how
to comment in TI-BASIC, if it's possible. I also named the program GraphSet CE just in case I decide to make a monochrome version, because my program
uses functions (like GridLine) that monochromes lack.

Maybe someone could also test it on the CSE? I don't know if the CSE can have a Line grid.

EDIT
The current program is attached. When it's been evaluated and considered complete, I'll upload it elsewhere.

This is my first project! I've started using the Portal Returns level editor to begin working on This Is the Only Level CE while @JWinslow23 works on This is the Only Level 84+.
With a lot of help from @MateoConLechuga and pretty much everyone else, I can make this happen, and learn on the way. Maybe if I ever finish, I could use Portal CE's engine to port Axio Man...
Here's my progress so far: I have nearly proportionally recreated stage one from the original game. Because there is no scrolling in Portal Returns, the stage is separated into two levels. I had to substitute many things. Where vertical wall spikes and upside-down spike tiles should be are the red death fields, and where the entry/exit tube is there is just either empty space or a blue field. I put in a blue field where the green door would be, and three red buttons where there should be one large red button.
I have changed the jump height to about the same height as the game, which is about 20px high in Portal CE.
Tell me what you think, how I should start to go about this, and if this is worth taking on.
I also made sure you can't portal cheat. :P
17
If you've ever played squidgetx's Zombie Gun, you know it's super fun. What I want to do is port it, but that's pretty hard to do with no coding knowledge for the CE(or anything else :P).

This might be easier if Axe was ported to the CE, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.

If someone was going to do this, what language would be best for speed, looks, and fluency? I don't think xLIBC has smooth scrolling, so would it be best to use ez80 or C?

Other / Train of Thought
February 23, 2016, 03:11:58 AM
Have you ever stopped to think about the way you think about things? If you have, then you've noticed how crooked the rails your train of thought travels on can be. Take the way you remember things.

Not too long ago,  at about 9:50 PM(Eastern Time Zone), I cut my finger open while trying to wash our smoker. When I did this, I put the nearest thing to me that caked on the cut: Baking soda. I know this probably isn't the best thing for a bleeding wound, but it was close by. :P  So afterwards, I went to our wooden cart to get the Hydrogen Peroxide we had bought for our plants(we had a gnat infestation). They were all sealed. The seal reminded me of how annoying it was to take them off of medicine when it didn't have those easy-peel tabs. Then I remembered how I hadn't completely ripped off the seal on our Vitamin C tablet jar. My mind went to how we used to get gummy Vitamin samples at Costco, then to how I had once opened a container of Vitamin C without my mother's permission. I finally came back to how I hadn't taken a Vitamin C tablet yet today.
I would say that I thought of all this in about 7 seconds,

Random, right? When you have a stray thought, post it here. :D

Other / OMG! My Basement Just Flooded!
February 17, 2016, 11:48:00 PM
While I was looking around the forums, my mom sent me to get something from our finished basement. When I got there, all the carpet was wet, and our high-water alarm was blaring. It still is now! We called our neighbor from across the street, who's a very accomplished handyman, and he's currently surveying the situation. What do I do? This is so unfortunate, as half of my 200 book fiction collection is sitting on the floor down there! AAAH!

Wait...Maybe I should've posted this in the "Why your life sucks" thread...

I usually don't draw a lot, but when I do, it usually has something to do with my favorite cartoon, made by me, named Steve.
I just now tried to put him into Pixel Art on a 32x32 grid. It looks pretty cool to me, but tell me what you think. Later, I'll attach a picture of the original Steve, try to make Steve 24x24, then see what he looks like with :walrii: eyes :P.

General Help & Troubleshooting / CEmu Setup Help
February 16, 2016, 04:32:09 PM
I had a bit of trouble understanding the instructions for building this, so I decided to make a topic, so I could get help and others could benefit.
I think I have all the resources I need, but I still don't know exactly how I'm supposed to use them, because I've never used something like this before.
I also tried to use @pimathbrainiac 's nightly thingies(:P) but they stopped working. I'm on W10 Pro, x86, and every time I run pimath's binaries, I get past the ROM dumping from my own 84+ CE and then it tells me "CEmu has stopped working." What do I do?

Calculator News, Coding, Help & Talk / New TI-84+CE Games
February 14, 2016, 10:31:23 PM
There are now new games for the CE! :D
They appeared in Cemetech's archive section, and are all non-basic.

Ultimate Pong 2.5- an in-dev awesome and challenging pong game by PT_.

The GIF's a bit glitchy.
Download here: https://www.cemetech.net/programs/index.php?mode=file&id=1425

1010! CE- a pretty cool game ported from iOS. It is similar to Tetris, but with a twist. Made by KingInfinity.

Download here: https://www.cemetech.net/programs/index.php?mode=file&id=1427

CircleIT- a simple yet fun and challenging game. Try to stop the blue circle when it is on the rim of the pink one! Also by KingInfinity.

UPDATE: This version fixes an highscore bug that caused crashes on exit after playing the game.

CE-Flow- in dev. and unreleased. Looks good so far though! The reason there's a different name in each screen is because the title is still being worked on. It's by jonbush.

This is where you post personal things that amaze you. Like what my mom just said.

"Nursing is like the Mafia. Once you start, you can't get out, 'cause you know too much."
O.O Wow.  O.O

General Help & Troubleshooting / Pac-Man CE bug?

Has anyone ever noticed that when you're playing this game, that last berry never gets eaten, and you never receive points for it? Anyone with CEmu can post a screenshot.

Randomness / The Random Question Thread
February 10, 2016, 01:10:30 AM
This is where you post the most random, off-topic anywhere, weird questions you've been dying to ask.
Here are the rules:

1. You must either post a question, comment, or an answer to someone else's question.
2. You cannot post more than 1 question at a time.
3. There can be more than 1 answer to 1 question
4. Do not post a comment before someone's question is answered
5. You cannot post another question if there is an unanswered question before yours; Be patient!
6. DO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS WITH QUESTIONS! THAT IS WHAT YAHOO ANSWERS IS FOR!
There you go! :walrii:
Here's my question(and this is a very random question):
Do horses poop while moving, or do they have to just take a dump when they're standing still? :P

Other / WalriiBot that tracks your use of Walrii Codes
February 10, 2016, 01:03:01 AM
I think this should be a thing. I mean, why not? I've probably used at least half as many :walrii: s as @DJ Omnimaga has since the beginning of the forum! :P
28
I don't think this is compatible with the CE yet, because I think it uses XLIB, but could it be recreated(maybe with a different character sprite) for CE? It could use CE Textlib like Mana Force...
29
I'm not sure if this should be in Music Talk, but is there, as of now, any way to play music from the TI-84+ CE?
30
There are very few utilities for the CE series. Those who can make basic games should create those that can be run without DCSE.
The biggest thing is that wa already have amazing games for other calculators.
Not all game should be brand new ideas.
I like how AB5 is now in dev. for monochrome and the CEs.
If anyone can code this calc, port stuff!

Calculator News, Coding, Help & Talk / TI-84+ CE Games?
February 01, 2016, 01:46:43 AM
Post all the TI-84+ CE games you can find here. I just got one today, and I want to see what I can do with this sleek contraption! :walrii:
32
Is there one? Or does the TI-OS for this calc have a hidden feature I don't know about?
33
I was just wondering a couple things about calc programming.

- How come Axe cannot be used for color calculators?
- Could an ASM prgm on a TI-84+ run using the exact same code on a CE?
- What about basic?
- Technically, shouldn't the TI-84+ CE be able to display grayscale?
- What would happen if you sent a .8xp TI-BASIC prgm made on a TI-84 to a color calculator and tried to run it?
- How hard would porting be from the TI-84+ to a TI-84+ CE?

THIS JUST IN!!! THE SOURCE FOR SLIME WAS LOST!

This is good and bad. We'll have to start all over again from scratch, which could take awhile.
The good news is, for the redo, it is easiest to implement new ideas. Come on people, spout 'em!

Also, how do you like MegaWalrii? :walrii:

Randomness / Terrible "Roast" Lines
January 26, 2016, 01:56:43 AM
I just wanted to make a thread for this. If you're too old to know what a roast is, here's an example:

"Eww! That's just gross!"
"Your face is gross!
"Oooo! Get wrect!/Shots fired!/Spittin' bars/Roasted!" :walrii:

That is a "roast."
Post anything like that you can think of here.

I'm pretty sure this is in the wrong place, but here it is! E37 from Omnimaga and I are making a platformer game called "Slime."
I created some character sprites, but I'm not sure if I like them.
All Stuff for this game can be found here: http://www.piskelapp.com/user/5817247805210624/public

Here are the RULES
- The Character Sprites must look cool and appropriate for a platformer game with no story so far.
- The sprites must be no larger than 8x8 pixels, but can be any dimensions 8x8 or smaller.
- Sprites must be posted here for all to see by 2/5/16.

EXTRA INFO
- The character can currently use a shield(which just looks like a bubble around it)
- The character will be able to use a blaster of some sort.
- :walrii: s are accepted.
- The character, in the game, is almost always either jumping or falling.
- BEST place to MAKE SPRITES ONLINE: http://piskelapp.com/
- This game is for the TI-84+ and is MONOCHROME(Ooooo! A challenge!)
- This game is in Axe; If you win, put your sprites in Axe.
Go HERE FOR A SCREENIE OF THE GAME SO FAR: https://codewalr.us/index.php?topic=1026.msg30530#msg30530

Keep these things in mind as you sprite!

If you are ABSOLUTELY SURE you can commit to this project, pledge to do so by posting below.

Random poll on your OS! :walrii:

Whenever I try to send Freyaday's Nymless.8xk, my TI-84+ performs a Garbage Collect, then shows "Error in Xmit" before it crashes and gives me the "RAM cleared" pop-up. What's goin' on, and what do I do? :walrii:

Calc Projects, Programming & Tutorials / SLIME
January 23, 2016, 12:36:39 AM
E37 from Omni and I are making a combat games in Axe called "Slime," featuring a boss called "Bog Sluzi," which apparently means "Slime Lord" in Latin, according to Bing Translate. Any help with optimization, sprites, title screens, ideas, or just feedback would be appreciated.

To see my stuff(Bog Sluzi, Slime Character Sprites, Slime Title Screen Idea), go to http://www.piskelapp.com/user/5817247805210624/public
Attached is Slime so far.

THIS IS A BETA!!! A LARGE AMNT OF STUFF ISN'T IMPLEMENTED!!
-No Title Screen
-Bog Sluzi is just a rectangle
-The Giant Worm is buggy
-The UFO is buggy
-The game is slow
-No combat
-No Pause Screen
-No Shop
-Other ideas????

Press [Enter] to kill the last enemy spawned.
Tell me what you think, and if there's a way I could add a :walrii: based hidden thingy.
Also, can anyone put up screenshots for me?
