That sucks. I wouldn't delete the topic but personally the only reason I would use Classic Shell is to get rid of Windows 8 start menu. Windows 10's latezt update pretty much allows putting the menu back into XP style

yess I'm continuing to use classicShell myself as I now have win7 start menu and task bar... but little icons like wifi and volume control only work like half of the time since explorer.exe is pretty much messed up :/

I've said this in IRC some time ago but ile repeat it. Using a tool like ResourceHacker you can edit image files within an exe file.
Maybe I was doing something wrong, but I was unable to modify my start menu icon this way. Nor was I able (do to windows security bullc) able to change the explorer.exe within the system32 (iirc) folder.

eternally mounting the harddrive should be a way around problem nr2
for nr1 I noticed some of the stuff (like profile pics) was in some windows verisons backed up to folders like appdata and temp but I'm not sure f thats actually the files they used or just backups to check or changes... might want to lookf for pics there, too
