Gaming / BattleBorn
August 17, 2016, 01:19:41 PM
once upon a time there was a 2k humble bundle that I bought because it had borderlands the pre sequel for less than 15 euro. there was this other game 'battleborn' in it....

and it turns out to be m***erf*#$ing amazing  O.O

Basically, it's what you get when you cross a MOBA like DOTA with an arena shooter like Team Fortress 2. I hear you thinking 'OVERWATCH' but I looked into it and overwatch doesn't really have the moba staples like minions and turrets. I've been playing this game nonstop for 4 days now and I just can't get enough of it. It's a bit of a sad story, cause the game kinda flopped due to launching in the same week as the incredibly hyped overwatch. The price is also very steep; 60 euros, but if you can get it for a low price DO GET IT. It's definitely worth 30 bucks. I'd love to play with some of you guys if you have it.

So, I noticed that my middle mouse click is dying on my Logitech G300, which is a PAIN because I use it all the time. I really like the mouse, so naturally I'm looking at the g300s as a replacement but maybe you guys know something better. The mouse I'm looking for must at the very least have the following functionality:

1) Next/prev page buttons
2) DPI switch. Call it a 'sniper button' if you want, I usually don't use it for sniping but sometimes you just need that temp extra accuracy.
3) DPI ranging between at least 250 and 2000

Throw me some suggestions. I'd rather not have Razer, I don't really like their designs. FWIW, €45 is about 50 dollars.

..that is, for normal members! I'm not sure who made that board but they sure screwed something up haha. Well, regardless, I fixed it.

So some of you may know that I also play guitar. Matref has a thread like this, and i figured I'd make one. I might have a few more lolis here than he has, though.

To start it off, here's the cover of Sweet Child O' Mine that I recorded today: https://soundcloud.com/richard-van-dijk-5/sweet-child-o-mine

Damn, i was pumped of playing the solo but it's actually kind of crappy haha ^^' I still have the audacity files so i might do a retake one time.

EDIT (DJ): Yep, this was fake. But if there are enough requests, maybe there will be an option to invert the site theme in the future or a separate one with the option enabled.

Sup everyone! You probably have noticed that as of recently we've been working on improving the Codewalrus user experience, because of course we want you to have the best possible experience using our great site. Because of that today we enter the first phase of the rollout of the new theme we have been developing. It features improved readibility and more black on white for reading under dim light so you can spend all night on your favorite website!
Enjoy!

Sincerely, the CodeWalr.us team

Site News & Announcements / Warning: Staff Updates Inside
February 21, 2016, 08:20:20 PM
There have been some changes to staff recently:
@123outerme got promoted to Elite Coder. Congratulations, 123outerme!
I ( @aeTIos) rejoined staff as Topic Moderator after resigning from staff early 2015 due to being very busy with school. If you have any topic moderation to be done, poke me any time :)

Another Elite Coder is pending approval, but personal life issues have prevented him from joining for now.

:walrii:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         the game

So I've been thinking about switching my mousing over to the left for a really long time. Why, you ask? My #1 reason for switching is ergonomics. Most keyboards (including mine) have those really bulky numpads and "EXTRA KEYS" on the right of the keyboard. This causes the mouse to be out of your comfortable reaching zone causing repeated stress on your shoulder and wrist. However, on the left side of your keyboard you have a good 15 centimeters less to reach! This is quite significant. Now you might say 'Y U NO BUY 10KEYLESS KEYBOARD M9???!?!? XDXDXD XD LOLOL"; However, I like having the numpad and in fact i use it quite a lot. When not in use so, it's a bit... bulky. Now I'm a leftie myself so I finally pulled the trigger and I'm going to try switching to my left hand for browsing (thank god I have an ambidextrous mouse... ;D)

My experiences so far:
T+00:00:00 Okay, let's do this thing!
T+00:00:00.00000000000000000000001 OH MY GOD THIS IS SO AWKWARD
T+00:00:05 Accidentally closed window instead of maximizing it.
T+00:10:00 This is actually going quite well.
T+01:30:00 Going slooow but stead -- DAMMIT I CLICKED ON THE WRONG THING AGAIN
|
|FAST FORWARD A COUPLE HOURS>>>>
|
T+24:00:00 Accidentally switched my mouse to the right.  Woops!
T+25:00:00 I'm at work and I notice a lowered attention. I'm not sure if this is because I pulled an all nighter, or because I have to focus on left handed mousing, or a combination of both.
T+26:00:00 My whole body is crying and I get the idea something broke.
T+27:00:00 I see :walrii: flying all over the place. (...) The lab boys are telling me this is not caused by the left handed mousing, but rather due to the use of /walrii in WIRC. Whatever. Continue testing.
T+28:00:00 Getting more muscle memory. Sometimes it almost seems like I'm starting to get used to this.

(To be continued)

..yes, the [Home] [Forum][IRC][Downloads][About], etc buttons. Why are most of them not clickable and only spawn a drop-down menu? What I'd like is that they lead to a default option, e.g. the top option, or one that many users use a lot. Saves a lot of precise mousing :)

So I logged into my gmail a few days ago, roughly a week I think, and I got a popup to switch to 'Inbox by Gmail'. Apparently, it's a new thing that's going to replace Gmail in the future, and I must say after getting used to it for a bit it's really awesome. My inbox hasn't been as organized as it is now :) Basically, Inbox emphasizes archiving and makes it way easier to do so, so I often have my inbox entirely empty. It's awesome and I recommend it. I also don't exactly know why I'm writing this in a topic but hey, I figured I'd just do that.

Oh, and it has an android (maybe ios too) app that works well. At least it doesn't use tons of data (looking at you, cyanogen mail app)

Other / Stuff I got because it was the day I was born on.
December 11, 2015, 02:01:39 PM
I turned 20 the day before today. I hate everything because I feel old, but not really. *starts running around in circles because it feels like something bad might happen*
So yeah, I got a lot of cool stuff, really one of my better days I was born on ever :P
I got:
This cool metal lines on wood for making nice noises book!

This cool book that explains how stuff works in the ten hundred words people use the most! It also learned me how to write like this.

This cool thing for the box that makes the nice noises that I make with the metal lines on wood even louder nice noises! It tells it to make the nice noises sound different.

This cool... money!

I also got to see my girl friend. That was also nice of course :)

Do you also want to write like this? Go to xkcd.com/simplewriter to check your words as you write!

Have a nice day!

Hello everyone.
As of lately, there's been a lot of talk about whether or not CodeWalrus and the TI community are going to die. I too notice that the general focus of the people on the site is shifting, or rather, broadening from calculators to a wide range of science and tech related subjects. A concern that I heard was 'How do we keep members around when they lose interest in calcs?', and the answer is most likely 'Give them more place to discuss the things they like and get replies!'. Now CodeWalrus does actually have place for most discussions. However, quite a few of them are buried and hard to find. I think this should change so that these boards get more posts, and therefore I want to present you what I call the Forum Structure Overhaul v1.0000000069! :walrii:

Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts.

I want to make clear that this is not a finished product. I want you to think about a couple things. First, a huge forum restructure like this will have to go with a certain change of focus. Are we okay with that? Are we not? I can't decide for what everyone wants. Next, if we move, there are bound to be topics that get lost, or at least it might take some time to find them again in a new forum structure. This is not a flaw in the proposal I want to make, but is rather inherent to moving from one forum structure to another. Is it fine if some topics do not fit 100% in a new forum structure?. Last but not least, do you have any suggestions or things that you want to see different? If you have suggestions, please mention me by including @aeTIos in your post, so I get the message in my PMs.

Together, we can make this community outlast the TI community. Let the walrus prevail! :walrii:

So, I was browsing Explain XKCD this morning, when my eye got caught by an ad for Sandra & Woo. I'm usually not really the ad-clicker, but this particular one got my click because uhm uhm uhm uhm, it looked cute.... ( ・ิω・ิ) dammit i just blew my cover of strong manliness dont let my girlfriend know
So yeah, cute pic, got my clic... turns out to be a hilarious (and cute) webcomic.. I ended up reading about 450 of their averagely 4-pane comics. Not sure what else to say without spoiling things, but there's romance, movies, and pop/nerd culture references. Oh, also, the characters are like 12 years old but I don't care because I was 12 when the comic started (2008)

What else to say. IT ROCKS READ IT

So pimath asked me if I could cross-post this from omni to here.

As always, feedback is appreciated!
Basically he's making music and looking for criticism, but "all the music people are on CW", which is kinda true so I figured cross-posting this wouldn't hurt.

Hey everybody, report from your staff here!

It's been a few weeks since we launched, and I hope everyone has been enjoying it so far here. We're always looking for points to improve so if you have any ideas, post them. You might just have this epic idea that we never thought of!

In the few weeks since we launched, we've already gone through a few changes:
-pimathbrainiac has resigned from his staff position, because he's very busy with regular life and he told us he can't have the additional weight of running a site. He said he'll still be doing the Project Periodical. Good luck with everything pimath!

-To fill up the free spot caused by pimath's resigning, Eiyeron has been promoted to the moderator position. This means he can ban people and generally be annoying help running the site, so if streetwalrus is being annoying again a spambot attack happens, you can poke him and he'll probably fix it (if he doesn't, poke me and I'll stab him)

-Finally on staffing, I (aeTIos) have been promoted to admin again (I stepped down before opening due to not really knowing anything about server/forum management), because I'll be managing forum backups.

Next on the list is the Elite Coder badge. This badge is awarded if you have a promising project and can show substantial progress. If you become Elite Coder, you get a subforum in the Featured Projects board, plus eternal fame! (your mileage may vary).

While writing this, I suddenly realize that giving an "elite coder" badge for a hardware project is weird. Maybe we need an "elite electronics engineer" badge of sorts. Hmm. Gotta discuss this with staff ^_^
Recently, Eiyeron has been awarded the Elite Coder badge. His subforum hasn't been realized yet, but we'll try to get it running by the end of the week :D

Now, some of you also have promising projects. If you think you and  your project are awesome enough to get a subforum and eternal fame (ymmv), you can apply in the comments section below with:

1) the project you want to apply,
2) a short explanation of recent progress,
3) a short summary of what your goals are with this project.

Don't hesitate to apply, no application is wrong. If you feel like applying in public is bragging, you can also PM me your application.

The staff's decision will be published in thenext Staff Announcement on Saturday, the 14th of February. If by then your project doesn't have enough progress to be considered major, fear not: we will be running hiring rounds very frequently.

All in all, we're really happy to see so many people posting and generally be useless hang around. Just, we'd love to see a bit less activity in off-topic and more in on-topic ;) Get your project out there, get famous (again, ymmv). Try to make some friends join the party! Remember that even though the main area of activity is currently calculator programming, we're not solely focused on that. Actually, we would like to see some PC/android/somethingelse projects started up, so if you know anyone who has such projects, try to get them to register and help the walrus fly  ^___^

With love~,
Your Staff.

Today I set up a git repo for Illusiat XI: Reborn. It's located here: https://github.com/aeTIos/Illusiat-XI/ We decided to license using MIT license, meaning that everyone can use the code for what he wants but has to license under the same terms. I also wrote a small description of the project:
Quote from: README.mdIllusiat XI: Reborn is a remake, or as we like to call it, reinterpretation, of DJ Omnimaga's 2002 BASIC ASCII RPG Illusiat Eleven. This reinterpretation, written using the Axe Parser language will feature revamped maps, improved storyline (with input from the original author) as well as 16x16 4-level grayscale graphics.
So far no code is in the repo, but I did set up dirs for graphics, maps, and code. This thread will be for major project updates as well as beta releases.
Currently I'm working on map and tile creation while Street is supposed to work on the mapping/movement engine. We hope to have something coming end of this week.
