Title: Nspire OS 3.9.1 can now be downgraded (already) :D
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 28, 2014, 12:14:26 PM
See original post on TI-Planet: http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=15780&lang=en

Looks like this one downgrade didn't took as long to come out. I suspect there wasn't much changes in the OS or TI didn't try much harder to find a new way to block downgrades. :D

However, no CAS nor Clickpad/Touchpad support yet: Just regular TI-Nspire CX. But yeah, basically if you were stuck on OS 3.9.1 (which isn't even available on TI servers yet, but is starting to appear on new calcs), then you can now go back to 3.6 and use Ndless! :)

You can download the utility here: DowngradeFix 3.9 (http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=105677)

And read the tutorial here: http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=15497&p=172096#p172096

Well the os was built a while ago, long before ti planet released the downgrade utility. :)

True, but the timespan between its release and the downgrade utility seemed much shorter than with OS 3.9 and others to me. Maybe TI-Planet just found a new exploit that TI just can't figure out?

Also being able to downgrade this easily means that the team doesn't need to invest as much time into Ndless 3.9 or 3.9.1, as people can simply downgrade to 3.1 or 3.6 if they want to use it.

What about the self destruction sequence? Is there any news about such a routine?

Not yet. Critor tried to trigger it in various ways, to no avail.

Nope. It just means that the exploit was completely unknown when the OS was built so chances that TI fixed it in there are small. They probably just had to adapt some things in the downgrade utility to make it compatible (ie, code offsets and such).

It's possible as well, although TI is normally quick on the lockdown trigger. I guess we'll see with OS 3.10.0 (I doubt they'll call it 4.0 because people will confuse the 84+CSE OS)
