Title: DarkestEx/Muessigb needs help finding a new domain name
Post by: DarkestEx on August 27, 2016, 02:41:26 PM
Hello Walrusses!

My old domain name is going down next Monday.
Until then I need to find a new name replacing the old one. Best would be one ending in .eu.

But other names with domain privacy would be fine too.
Which TLDs do you know that don't disclose the owner and what cool domain name should I pick this time?

I would be really glad for suggestions :)

Most domains on Namecheap comes with WhoisGuard for a year (renewable), else we can offer some subdomains of our CW domains, if needed.

So I just contacted my service provider and told them to register the new .eu domain. I wonder if I will ever manage to change all links to point to the new site :(

Glad to hear. Also aeTIos WhoisGuard doesn't work with all domain names. I bought it a few years ago, only to realize it was not useable on .us domain names.

From what I remember, his old domain name forced him to make his home address and personal info public.

you might want to move the WalriiNotifier to the new domain and update the link on the CodeWalrus frontpage, too ;)
*just saying so you won't forget that ^^

Actually yeah it would be a good idea. Although IMHO if the notifier is gonna move often in the future or even go offline, then you might be better off uploading a copy on Github or let us host a copy, so that 5 years from now it's still available for download. :P

reporting broken link:
http://claw.muessigb.net/assets/logo.svg is still linked here: https://codewalr.us/index.php?topic=1474.msg42212;topicseen#new
Probably search for your domain name all over CodeWalrus to replace all the now broken links? :)

Quite far actually. Yes, the blog is still not custom-themed, but the rest of the site is up and running :)
Of course most links are broken by now and I still have not moved the downloads from my old domain to the new one.

I'm glad you are keeping the downloads and Claw stuff there. Will Microcat also be included? My main worry when you shut down your other domain name was that some of your stuff would vanish from existence (or at least, online) and I still remember that CodeWalriiNotify went offline quite a few times in the past. <.<
