Funnily enough, the Rainbow Fox flash music is partly what pushed me to finally make my song La Porte du Soleil. (I had the idea for a decade but the song reminded me of it) O.O

Well, the guy who did this is Neil Cicierega (same for the Google Suggest one that reaches illegal levels of funny and the famous Ultimate Showdow of Ultimate Destiny song (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4WgT9gy4zQA)) and he's still pretty active (http://neilblr.com/) on the lulzy interwebs scene.

Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 16, 2015, 02:42:48 AM
Yeah apparently if a link is safe/SFW but still has NSFW or a word referring to NSFW material in the URL it's now against the rules. But again it is pretty hard to figure out what is allowed or not on Omnimaga because the rules section is outdated, rule enforcement varies from admin to admin and sometimes depends of who the offender is.

That said this particular link is a bit flashy, so it could pose some minor risks to people with acute cases of epilepsy.

Funnily enough, I am fairly sure that one of the many eurodance CD compilations I got at home has a song that sounds almost identical to this, but of course with no reference to the meme. :P

Post by: James Oldiges on February 16, 2015, 05:51:27 AM
I hadn't even considered the epilepsy factor, and I now regret not putting a warning.  I forgotten how prevalent it has become over the past decades.

IDEA:  An Epilepsy extension for chrome!.  It will pull in the website for a half second to see if there is any risk posed.  I mean, since epilepsy is about quickly flashing things, you don't need much time to determine if it is safe. Faster than the loading speeds at home at least.  Wish I knew how to program anything other than Axe and C XD
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 16, 2015, 05:58:39 AM
Actually that would be a nice idea. It would need to detect various things, though, such as CSS3, animated gifs, HTML5, Javascript and such things. It would be hard to detect everything, though. That said, it's not like the page is that bad, though, since it only changes colors once per second (although it's the entire page). The user could probably set his flashiness detection higher if he is at higher risk, though, or lower if only that one banned Pokémon episode can trigger a seizure for him.
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: CKH4 on February 16, 2015, 03:51:01 PM
I think I could program that (minus the chrome extension thing). I'll come up with a script that would help.

Im still working on the js but should be done soon.
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 17, 2015, 08:28:59 PM
Just as long as the script doean't cause my browser to freeze  for 10 seconds while processing and that it doesn't screw up search engine ranking or something .
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: James Oldiges on February 18, 2015, 02:35:46 AM
As epilepsy reacts to FAST flashing, it would only need to capture a a half second or so + calculation time.
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 18, 2015, 03:26:13 AM
I am curious about how fast it has to be, though. Does it need to be 10 fps minimum or something and how large the flashing source needs to be?
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: CKH4 on February 18, 2015, 04:02:58 AM
The script that I'm making plays the site for 1 (configurable) second and then asks if the website flashed, while turning the opacity to zero to avoid seizures.
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 18, 2015, 04:14:32 AM
Ah ok, but what if only a 320x240 portion of the page is flashing, for example?
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: CKH4 on February 18, 2015, 04:18:24 AM
I'll add a show more button I guess, which will resume the page playing for another second so that they can scroll to see the entire page.

Edit. I don't know how quickly epileptic seizures happen but I'm asking the user if there were flashes. (I know far too little js to determine if anything on the page might flash)

Basically if a seizure can start over less than ≈24 frames this script would be useless.

This one, in French, is my favourite one. For you English-speakers, it started as a Facebook page and it's pretty much a parody of all those 9gag translation websites that popped up since ConneriesQC started doing it in 2011 or so, seriously there's too much of them. In this one, the captions provided are pretty absurd and pretty much the opposite of the original and intentionally written in the worst French you can come up with.

It's not only Frnech but it's also Quebec French, lots of expressions come from this (seemingly nice?) region (like "criss" for instance).

You would probably not understand that site much anyway, because of the bad spelling and idioms. :P This is why for our users that have troubles reading English I really encourage our members who can use it well to do an effort to spell properly. That way, Google Translate won't choke on their posts.

Nah it's not directed at anyone here since so far, aside from some mistakes, people on CW tend to have good spelling unless they use their mobile device. But if a new member would join and spell horribly or intentionally spell specific words differently (eg saying anypony instead of anybody) he would be encouraged to do more effort. :P

Yeah we need to work on the off-topic part maybe. But that happens with every new forum anyway. Ideally we might need to start a general banter thread about certain subjects like CPU's if we feel like talking about them. :P

Anyway, somehwere in history (can't remember when) the church sold places to heaven. Then there were people like Luther and Calvijn who didn't like that, and made their own spinoff of Christianity (protestantism). (IIRC)

Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]

Yeah, more or less. It doesn't follow the comic's story and focus more on the Daltons. THe style and the humour follow quite nicely the original work. For instance, they color the scene when something emotionally intense is occuring or some things like that, like in the comic (green or red whenJoe is in temper tantrum).

I would definitively have moved out to my own appartment long before I was about to turn 21 if I had to deal with this. I believe in the freedom of religion and choice and even when we do have those freedoms I believe that we shouldn't try to force our beliefs on others.

I hope at least that your mom doesn't go as far as blocking websites that says anything against religion, even if they are just jokes/parodies >.<

Just waiting for the same incident as a few years back to happen, where some kid bought a F-16 of ebay for like $500000 with his parent's money

Wait, did a kid really do that? O.O I wonder how it turned out...

As for the village it would be interesting to see how the village can be used, though. Would a rich family just end up living there and maintain the houses? Would it be converted into a touristic venue or would it be razed for condominium development?

Oh wow, that reminds me horror stories about kids over here who, in the early 2000's, ended up racking up their dad/mom's internet bill by $8000 or so in the month by visiting some paid sites or blowing up their bandwidth cap by watching plenty of videos. In other occasions, the kids would just take their parent's credit card to do it.

That's why I prefer unlimited (but capped after an amount) or blocked pacakges. (Once you ran out of data, you're out of interblag)
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Snektron on April 15, 2015, 02:34:17 PM
Yeah i myself have one of those, but she didn't even have a data bundle. The provider just doesn't lock it when you don't have data, but you still can turn data on. For extra costs, of course.

Yeah same, or at least with a $$$ limit, like me with $50. If I exceed my bandwidth cap, they can't charge me more than $50 extra. I can change the limit too if I really need more data.

If I had kids they wouldn't get a phone until they are responsible enough and even then their data would be capped too so they can't rack up my bill.

Sadly, some companies refuse to offer limits or disable data after exceeding it, so that they can make extra money from unsuspecting customers and parents.

Not sure, it could either be a troll, former community member or maybe a fake user like the Hays Games, NPO or PsychoCorp groups.

There were some rather odd events and posts in the community a decade ago :P, the most notable one being on page 6 or 7 of http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/11/115/115018.html (in all-caps). @Art_of_camelot , @Juju and @aeTIos probably also remembers that Verdant guy (who had like 9 different forum accounts with -69 downvotes each)

Yeah he ban-evaded quite a lot too. His last account was 42vs1337 although it only got discovered a year later after he suddenly sent me hate mail. If I remember correctly, his accounts were Verdant, Parsimony, Thegame, BOB!, i_am_a_troll, 42vs1337 and one or more account that impersonated my nickname. All of them had posts that looked similar in styles, he always discussed in math-related threads and his spelling was pretty bad.

If the community had more people, I sometimes wonder if there shouldn't be another site with TI community satire sometimes? Perhaps not with a forum, though, but at least news. It might result into unnecessarily building up trolls, though.

If a sizeable part of the community were from 4chan, then yes there would be one. Do you mean something like Horse News?
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on July 31, 2015, 04:35:38 AM
I don't know that site, but it could be like The Onion. And yeah back when PsychoCorp existed, 4chan didn't and the community seemed to have even more flaming than now (although Cemetech was pretty much a war zone from 2006 to 2009 and the rest of the community in 2008) so I guess the typical 4chan user did not have another place to go back in the days. Ironically, most years when Hays Games existed also pre-dated 4chan era.
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]
Post by: Yuki on July 31, 2015, 06:27:02 AM
Horse-News.net is a MLP news site pretty much ran by 4chan. So lots of satire, useless drama and your usual 4chan shenanigans, but they also manage to be a trusted source for some reason.

If the TI community had the same type of website, then yeah it would be pretty interesting.

Does anyone here remember Geocities, that free hosting service that Yahoo! offered for free from 1995 to 2009? Well, after 2009 all sites redirected to https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/geocities , which said that Geocities had shut down and to consider their paid hosting alternatives.

However, if you check any Geocities links or that site  over half a decade later, you're now in for a little surprise O.O

What would be cool is a site allowing you to play two Youtube videos at the same time, but only have the audio of one of the vid and the picture of the other. Kinda like GIFSound except with a video instead of GIF and kinda like audio swap but you can use another video audio instead of MP3. Some mashups would be interesting. :P

Well, both. On the deep web, you can find stuff that is weird but not necessarily classified as the 'dark web', like one time there was just this german guy selling pretzels for bitcoins. The dark web has some weird stuff but I think most of it classifies as horrifying, rather than strange.

Also Jokeriske you should avoid double-posting unless you have a project update to post or if the last post was 24 hours ago. :)

Wait...what's the deep web? And what's the dark web? ???
Title: Re: Weird Links
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on May 21, 2016, 05:11:23 PM
I don't remember which one is what but IIRC one of them is often refered to as the silkroad and is mostly where criminal actitivies such as drug/firearm dealing happens and the other is another secret-ish part of the Internet but with legal activities for the most part. I might be wrong, though.
Title: Re: Weird Links
Post by: WholeWheatBagels on May 21, 2016, 06:00:17 PM
The deep web is all the internet stuff that doesn't show up in search engines. Deep web is legal, like govt databases and stuff I think.

The dark web is the bad part of the deep web like where the Silk Road was.

I don't think you want to visit the Silk Road of the Internet. Assuming it still exists lol.

Also O.O http://madmoizerg.com/2013/09/le-baneling-trap-facon-maison/ (this is a recipe with grapes and fruits but they named it with Starcraft references about banelings XD)

Yeah, the government managed to shut down the Silk Road even though it's on Tor and it's highly anonymous (because everything in there is obviously illegal), but I wouldn't be surprised if another one shows up.

Yeah same. Once something gets taken down it usually takes less than 8 seconds before they appear again elsewhere or they get hosted in Russia.

Just to be clear, here are Wikipedia's definitions :P
Spoiler
QuoteThe deep web, dibre web, invisible web, or hidden web are parts of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard search engines for any reason. The deep web is opposite to the surface web.

The deep web includes many very common uses such as web mail, online banking but also paid for services with a paywall such as video on demand, and many more.

Spoiler
QuoteA darknet (or dark net) is an overlay network that can only be accessed with specific software, configurations, or authorization, often using non-standard communications protocols and ports. Two typical darknet types are friend-to-friend networks (usually used for file sharing with a peer-to-peer connection) and privacy networks such as Tor.

The reciprocal term for an encrypted darknet is clearnet or surface web when referring to search engine indexable content.

Spoiler
QuoteThe dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks which use the public Internet but which require specific software, configurations or authorization to access. The dark web forms a small part of the deep web, the part of the Web not indexed by search engines, although sometimes the term "deep web" is confusingly used to refer specifically to the dark web.

The darknets which constitute the dark web include small, friend-to-friend peer-to-peer networks, as well as large, popular networks like Freenet, I2P, and Tor, operated by public organizations and individuals. Users of the dark web refer to the regular web as the Clearnet due to its unencrypted nature. The Tor dark web may be referred to as onionland, a reference to the network's top level domain suffix .onion and the traffic anonymization technique of onion routing.

Interesting, I was sure that one of them refered specifically to illegal stuff, which P2P file sharing isn't (sharing copyrighted material is illegal, but you can also share legal files via P2P).

Also I think sometimes people confuse the terms with "the wrong side of the Internet". When people talk about how they landed on the wrong side of Youtube again, they usually refer to how they ended up on very weird videos that are often disturbing or even bordering on shock imagery.

You're welcome @DJ Omnimaga . :)

Here's a general-purpose tool that has the same idea (it takes clips of things, mainly song lyrics, and splices together messages). It has an even harder time with things nobody has seemed to say in the clips (it just has a computerized voice say it), but it's cool too.
https://clash.me/

And here's a version that prefers Trump clips above all else.

Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on June 28, 2016, 11:38:38 PM
I actually prefer the Obama one, since the Clash one shows no proof that it was from random voice clips (eg no vids). It sounds more like a speech converter, like that ancient Text to speech converter by AT&T or something: http://wizzardsoftware.com/text-to-speech-sdk.php

Unless I'm using the first Clash link wrong?
Title: Re: Weird Links [possibly nsfw]

http://clash.me/N6SYZ2U

It should show you your sources as you're making it (and you should also be able to change the clip if it's been said more than once). As well, check the sources for that one after the message plays.

But some horror movies can be fun :P. Most suck, though, due to poor production and acting.

Also, guys, sometimes, you have to put your religion or beliefs aside. As much as I understand that some people are very into it, but stories like this are just ridiculous: http://www.tvanouvelles.ca/2016/10/14/une-jeune-mere-temoin-de-jehovah-meurt-au-bout-de-son-sang and http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-jehovahs-witness-death-young-mom-investigation-1.3806578

Basically, after giving birth, a mom became severely ill and needed a blood transfusion in order to survive. However, she refused the transfusion because she was a Jehovah Witness and died soon afterwards. The doctors couldn't do anything because giving her the blood transfusion against her wishes/beliefs could have led to them being sued and ending up into big legal troubles.

I thought that parents using the religious excuse to prevent their kids from programming/gaming/using technology was bad, but the story above takes things to another level.

after reading through a lot ofthis stuff it looks like the author collects knowledge... but only knowledge that is in any way referencing to some weird numbers or "A Z N" (standung for numbers I think)...
especially religions texts like from the bible but also old buddhist writings and other religions believes are found.
I got the feeling he's believing the true religion can be found by combining all other religions... but only those parts that fit into hismagic numbers trick O.o
definitely fun to read at some parts, and it *seriously* looks like a solid ground for some super weird religious beliefs... this could very well be the archive of a little religions group as everything got its order, perfectly cross-reference, lots of boring stuff to read thats really messing with your head, some cty paintingsthat are even worse...
Seriously reminds me of the holy writings of various religions...
"My own religion - The starter pack - 10/10" O.o
On the other hand he got only about 25 visitors per YEAR...
which means I'm having a huge influence on is polulatiry right now and accidentally spread this stuff right now O.o

btw this website is basically illegal as it got no impressum or anything alike... <_<

Cecil, neither man or woman had come to destroy me. I had something it needed. As I braced for what I knew would be the obliteration of my very soul, Cecil made clear what it had come from the bowels of nothingness to obtain. It reached for me and it was then I realized he could not grasp me. You see Cecil had only a stump, for I had sat on his hand. As Cecil plucked it's skeletal appendage from my darkest of regions, it reattached it to the aforementioned stump. The lilliputian trick then bid me good day with a proper curtsy, and was gone...but not before a gift was left for me. As I nursed my sore bottom, and all-encompassing sense of abandonment, I noticed a delicious McGrittle. With one bite I knew the lament of my true curse. The bitter taste in my mouth was not that of isolation or damnation. No, the horrid taste in my mouth was the realization that Cecil had prepared this delicacy with the very hand that had massaged not only my ass, but the asses of all the damned throughout the ages. That taste would stay with me until oblivion, Ragnarok, the end of days, call it what you like. I beg you my friends, unless you fancy the taste of innumerable massaged prostates, slow-roasted in the great inferno, DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE!

Yeah true. Some people are millionaires but that food could easily be donated to his local food bank or soup kitchen. D:

paying for other people's food is totally fine for me.
Also you maybe SHARE it with someone (like sitting down next to homeless guys and eat with them) <--- really doing that sometimes
But I could NEVER give food away without having some, too D:
I'm totally strange about that - I can give 10€ away without a problem but I cant give away food for 5€.... Just because it's food and I'm always hungry I guess xD
foooods :3

Is it just me or is it normal to be that addicted to food...?
