Oh, I'm very glad that this site isn't closing. Its my favorite calc site (because of the color scheme (jk) and that you people are nice). You guys really need a very major project to attract visitors though. Hope you stay open for a long time.

Also your mascot is really cute.

I'm thinking though that before we get very large projects like Axe, TI-Boy and Ndless we might be a few years off, though. I founded Omni in 2001 and its first active forum originates from 2005, with the second one from 2008. It took until 2009 before we finally get something in ASM that would attract big crowds. That would put our first big project somewhere in 2023. That said I think it doesn't matter if the projects we got are mainstream or ASM, though, since we also try to give any good project, even if it's a niche genre like JRPG, some attention.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I can understand why you feel that way though with what happened yesterday. The issue though is not that it didn't have much users, but rather that most of the ones who joined would leave only a few weeks later, even before yesterday's post. I wish that if people were unhappy about the site that they would let us know why. That's how we can improve and avoid repeating some mistakes.

Have we done something that scared people like Art of Camelot, Mateo, AssemblyBandit, Phyxie and some others away? Was there something missing on the site that made them never come back? Has somebody said negative things about us in our back and people decided to only listen to their side of the story?

We might not get many members (maybe we could just be like Revsoft), but it helps if we know what not to do to avoid scaring people away. So thanks at least for speaking your mind (although I feel that leaving would be a very counter-productive thing to do). There are things we can do to guarantee that this site will remain open.

Nah, nothing has scared me off. I just haven't found that much to comment on here, thus I don't post much. That, and a few of the things are cross-posted elsewhere and I don't see much point in posting the same thing in two places. Even though I'm a member in most of the other calc communities, Omnimaga has always been where I'm most active.

That said, I'm glad this place is staying open. It's nice to have an alternative. I don't think it really matters if this place is super active or not. Look at Revsoft for example; they're basically a close knit group of people that share common intrests, and they've been around for 10 years. They don't have a huge user base, or many new members. It's just about sharing the experience. Isn't that what this place was supposed to be about as well? ;)

Ah ok I was worried something happened, either over here or behind the scenes. That said I agree about the projects being available at most places *cough*except maybe Mana Force*cough*, which is somewhat expected I guess since that's exactly what people did way back when MaxCoderz was the leading site (sometimes cross-posting to 4 different forums at a time).

Off topic: Art_of_camelot, didn't you leave for a while like a few years ago? ( or am I really confused? )

On topic: I think that Mateo likes cemetech the most.

CKH4, obviously :P But yeah, this forum is a nice break from the strictness of Cemetech sometimes. I am trying to learn ASM, so I might post about a small project in the future. :)

To be fair, though, this can result into a larger amount of quality programming help discussion, but yeah I can understand that when going from one forum to another the different level of strictness (or laxness, depending of the topic), as well as the different ways of correcting newcomers, can be intimidating. Regardless, I wish you good luck into learning ASM. I do not know if anyone over here checks the site often enough to help, but hopefully someone here or elsewhere can help you if you need any. :)

If I do decide to do a game in ASM(or axe), could it be something about the codwalrus mascot?
Sorry for pushing this off topic. :P

You are free do do such game. Just make sure to call the mascot Walrii, though, and to not do a game like Assassinate Walrii :P (well you could, although it would be strange that the first game involving Walrii is such game O.O)

Yes it would. I'm thinking like a Walrii RPG/Frogger type game. If only I could figure out why my Axe movement code is so glitchy...

Ok, back on topic.

Make sure to create a topic about it once you are ready to showcase it in action :)

As for the original topic, it seems like from now on it will be juju at the head, somewhat, in terms of privileges he got on the server and stuff, while my staff position will finally become what it was supposed to be from the start (besides, the site is almost complete anyway), but a new group for part time staff who can't really guarantee regular activity was created. Decisions would be taken by the official staff and whoever in the part time team is present at the time of decision taking.

I don't think so. I do have times when I'm less active, but I don't think I've really left for an extended period recently.

Not to ask too much info, but is it because you have a variable amount of work hours each week? In retail, I know that certain people will work about 10-20 hours per week in January, February and October, then in December or the start of new seasons, they'll peak at 40-60 hours. And same thing with shops where people will do overtime for most of the Summer, only to end up out of work during Winter.

I am asking because I noticed that for certain months of the year you will be very active, only to disappear almost entirely for a few months, usually starting in February or April.

Nah, my work schedule is pretty consistent, but holidays can get pretty hectic/stressful. That's usually when I step away for a bit. That, or if I'm on vacation.
