Title: SLIME
Post by: Dudeman313 on January 23, 2016, 12:36:39 AM
E37 from Omni and I are making a combat games in Axe called "Slime," featuring a boss called "Bog Sluzi," which apparently means "Slime Lord" in Latin, according to Bing Translate. Any help with optimization, sprites, title screens, ideas, or just feedback would be appreciated.

To see my stuff(Bog Sluzi, Slime Character Sprites, Slime Title Screen Idea), go to http://www.piskelapp.com/user/5817247805210624/public
Attached is Slime so far.

THIS IS A BETA!!! A LARGE AMNT OF STUFF ISN'T IMPLEMENTED!!
-No Title Screen
-Bog Sluzi is just a rectangle
-The Giant Worm is buggy
-The UFO is buggy
-The game is slow
-No combat
-No Pause Screen
-No Shop
-Other ideas????

Press [Enter] to kill the last enemy spawned.
Tell me what you think, and if there's a way I could add a :walrii: based hidden thingy.
Also, can anyone put up screenshots for me?

Good job on your first project  Just try not to aim too high  ;)

But, "bog sluzi" is a bad translation of "slime lord". "bog", and "sluzi" are not even latin words as far as i know <_< "Lord" sould be translated as "dominus" or "rex"(king). "Slime" sould probably be translated as "limus". If you want the name to mean "Lord of slime" then the best tranlation i can offer is this "dominus limi". Alternativly, "rex limi" means practically the same thing. Anyways, it would be best to poke @p4nix about this as he know the most about latin here  :)

I know. As for the glitches, there are many, but for the boss's name, I just need anyone to find an name meaning "Slime Lord" in any language, that sounds cool and is easy to spell and pronounce.

Slime Lord in chinese

Does it sound cool, and is it easy to write and pronounce?

And if anyone has sprite ideas to replace that 4x3 one, feel free to attach them here. The best ones will appear in the game.
Sprite anything that'll look cool and is no larger than 8x8 pixels.

Thanks @GuyInFreezer for the screenie, and @c4ooo for the recommendation.

So I assume this is a platform game from the screenshot? The idea seems interesting, although more details or visuals about how the gameplay will be like outside boss fights would be nice.

Told dudeman the same in the PM :P

In the end, the name doesn't matter too much I think.

Name generator did not help. What now???? :walrii:
And in the game, for now, all you can do is jump around.

Well, http://www.unnamedmonkeygame.com/ has not come up with a creative name yet too :P
So you might want to consider 'Unnamed Slime Boss'. Think of Dooms 'Big F*king Gun' -> BFG and just call it USB. That's kinda funny too, isn't it?

Just use a working title, until you or one of us comes up with a better name. Not finding a name isn't the end of any game.

Butbutbut, @p4nix ,you said you had been taking Latin for 4 years :P

@Dudeman313 so much for grammar but yea whatever \M/ maybe the bos could be called "BFS", standing for "Big F*cking Slime" :P

But Domi is plural. :P
(Not accounting the fact that "Detritus" should be "Detritorum")

Blame shmibs for Detritus, but Domi is short for Dominus.

Off topic:
@c4ooo Yeah I do. But since we are allowed to use dictionaries, translating is more or less guessing the right meaning. It's like deciphering something, which makes it really cool actually, although I'm very bad :P

It doesn't really "ring with power." Y''know?  I'll probably take down the poll soon, though.  I dunno.  :-\ And the Sprite contest is going to end in 8 days, but no one has really pledged.

SliBord sounded cool, but I like the other names too. SliBorg sounds like a cyborg/Star Wars themed robot character. As for sprites, the issue with calc forums is that they're very small, so it's usually impossible to get any spriting help. It doesn't hurt to ask but most people are busy with life and spriting can be time-consuming.

I've found this to be very true. I guess I'll just have to modify my own sprites for weaponry.

UPDATE:
I got a CE that replaced my Monochrome calculator. This game might be dead for awhile, unless someone with CE coding and Axe knowledge picks this up.
I'll ask E37 for the source if you want it, but he did have to start all over because of a crash.

Axe is not available for the CE tho. You would need to learn C or ASM if you want sprites. Or you could use TI-BASIC and make the main character so that it's a lowercase o character or something (to look like a slime)

What happened to your other calc, though?

My mom returned it to Walmart. It's a long story. :P
:walrii:
Where can I find a good ASM tutorial?
Title: Re: SLIME
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 06, 2016, 07:54:13 PM
I am curious about the story :P

Anyway I don't know of CE-specific ASM tutorials, but have you considered giving C a try?

Otherwiae to learn the basics of 84+ ASM you would need to use ASM in 28 days (Hot Dog ASM for the absolute beginner can also help as an add-on to asm28d). Bjt most people use C on the CE now.

Here's the story...
So, my Mom found out I'd need a graphing calculator for Algebra 1 in 8th grade. She scolded me for not telling her during the summer so she could find one for cheap. My dad saw the TI-84+ for $85, a TI-83+ for $73, and a Casio fx-g(something something something) for $47. He bought the Casio, even though my I told my mom Texas Instruments was recommended. I found some articles saying that TI was better in NY, and even got a teacher approval. When he returned the Casio, the TI-84+ was $120. My mom said we'd return it after 90 days and try to get it cheaper. I saw my friend with a CE and decided I could use it because it was cooler and had some new features. We replaced the 84+ with my new CE.

Maybe I could try C. I would need sometime t find good tutorials for both ASM and C.

I'm typing this on a Nokia E63, so there might be some errors.

Yeah, but now my mom talked to one of her coworker's son, and she now insists that I got my new calc just for games. She says that at the end of the school year, she'll return it and get the one I had in first back. Something tells me she doesn't know I had games on my  monochrome to begin with.
