I recently discovered The Powder Toy (http://powdertoy.co.uk) and its a really awesome game. You can create anything from a basic 8 bit computer (with RAM and everything!) or a nuclear reactor. So, here's a thread to post your creations!
Heres my powder based power plant, for example:
http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=1790747
It works by disintegrating (nearly) every type of dust with acid. This produces heat, which is conducted through the gold, heating up the water and turning it into water vapor.
Here is a deuterium-based nuclear reactor I made:
http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=1790646
This one works by releasing a few neutrons into a tank filled with deuterium, causing even more neutron to be created, and generates lots of heat. Its controlled by using SPRK on both of the wires. The upper one releases some neutrons, the other releases deuterium. Once you release the first neutron, the only thing you have to do to keep it running it supply more deuterium.
Of course, my contraptions are pretty lame. Here are some much more amazing things:
World Generator: http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=1253965
Plutonium Reactor: http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=257313
Computer (prints Pascals Triangle by default): http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=1570768
Another computer (much more interesting to look at :P): http://powdertoy.co.uk/Browse/View.html?ID=427363
Ya know, there is one of these for the TI 83+ and TI 84+ ;)
Well, I'm willing to bet that it wont let you simulate plasma guns!
Looks cool downloading now :)
EDIT: Done downloading :P
Yeah I was playing a few years ago, it's pretty fun :P
I remember playing around with another of those on Omni, but it was much more simple (although the graphics were similar). I wonder how fast such thing would run in Ndless...
It would run very, very slow. Its extremely easy to get running slowly on even a mid-range PC.
Thread about porting the game to mobile devices, all the replies are reasons why it can't happen. (http://powdertoy.co.uk/Discussions/Thread/View.html?Thread=14610). It applies to calculators too :P
Wow I didn't know it was that intensive. But what if it was made simpler like some of the TI-83+ ones?
You could probably do *some* physicsy things, but things like air pressure don't seem feasible.
It would be cool to see stuff like this for the Prime since it has touch screen.

If it can lag on a cheaper laptop...even with a C-compatible custom firmware...:(
I've discovered a way to get energy from a nuclear reactor without using water!
First, you have your generic deuterium reactor producing neutrons. The thing is, this time, we are not doing it for heat. You can send the neutrons flying through glass, and some of the neutrons will turn into protons.
Then, have the protons fly through some bizarre, which will turn the protons into electrons. Both protons and electrons can pass through bizarre effortlessly, so there is no problem.
Have a sheet of metal (preferably Tungsten) to snatch up all of the electrons. They will all get turned into sparks and get sent flying down the wire.
I remember playing this a few years ago. At one point my little brother used to do it every day. Also every one in "group 8" (the last year if promary school in the nl, age ~12) used to do it and most of the freshmen the next year too. It was quite popular here.
Hmmm got to try it! I wonder is there are servers...
I think it's a single player game. Though some have some kind of local multiplayer where you can play as some kind of platformer stick men
Wouldn't everybody just blow stuff up?
Probably yeah :P
That is what happens in public minecraft servers with crappy mods.
I can be very immature with sandbox games with infinite resources :P
You should see my creative worlds :P
A minecraft server I used to play on once made everyone creative on a fresh map because they were re-setting.
few hundred withers...
In the powder toy I made a box and filled it with explosives :P
*Gives yourself OP, setts all other players to survival... Laughs maniacally :P
I like to use tnt and the /summon endercrystal command.
/summon EnderCrystal on a 20x per second command block clock O.o
I use flans mod, load a Tiger with tank shells (I guess they're HEAT) and HE machine gun bullets :P
I've created an unstoppable fireball in the powder toy XD
Molten thermite is very hot...
EDIT
Stopped it with virus :P
Destroyed each other
I need to dowload this Powdertoy...
You can also play it online at http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust2/
BTW i could probably make a FBO version that runs like a million particles :P (though it requires collisions and thats quite slow (Though i can do texture checks cuz im on a GPU >:D)) I should try that one day :P
They probably talk about this one (http://powdertoy.co.uk/) as it's way more complex and full of features than Dan's.
Ah okay :) Though that's not online :P
wut, lighting and tnt and fireworks = awesomeness.
With the web version you can right click on a type and thats used with fireworks. Or did you use that? :P
I'm just melting every thing with the powder toy x.x
Apparently plutonium is meltable...

I made a box and filled it with gunpowder, fireworks, thermite, uranium (I dunno why), and lit it. fps dropped from 30 to 7 for about 30 seconds :P
I'm still messing around with explosives in that...
I remember people making displays and such too O.O.
Hmm i should download and try this...
:( does the online version not work for chrome? It doesn't for me.
You have to enable NPAPI for java -> chrome://flags/#enable-npapi (copy to address bar)
Thanks :)
There's an online version? O.O
Yeah its been around for ages
Been blowing stuff up constantly :P

With the one linked to on Omnimaga around 2010, I spent like hours with nitro. That particle type was particularly violent... O.O

No, I didn't know it existed :P
How do I load it?
Ok so I just tried The Power Toy and it appears to be the same as I tried in late 2010, unless they just used the same interface and fonts. It has many more options, though, so it's probably just a major update.

As i said in the quote above, you need to enable NPAPI for chrome
Look into the space time dimension O.O

Cool :D
I wish you could resize the screen though <_<
EDIT: Nvm, i found it. I wish they used nearest neightbor scaling <_<

That looks awesome O.O
I personally had some interesting explosions going on last night, but when it's intense it takes a lot of CPU resources. :P
I'm constantly at around 5 fps from melting random materials :P
Is uranium unaffected by heat or something like that? It doesn't melt :P
MY favorite combination is thunder (THDR) with Vibranium (VIBR). When thunder interacts long enough with the latter, the latter explodes in a spectacular fashion.
No ponies were harmed during this experiment.
In case you were wondering why that happens, its because Vibranium stores energy and then violently releases it all once it gains too much.
Does this use all the processor cores btw? Cause i have the feeling its not and, you know, i'd like to use all my 8 cores :P
And yeah maybe i'll try to make a small powder game that uses the GPU for collision calculations and such :P
Yeah I am unsure if it uses them all. While it gets very laggy, it doesn't slow down the entire computer.

Whoa that is awesome I will have to try it :)
Alexgt, let me introduce to you Alt+PrintScr which only copies the active window. No need to cut manually the screenshot! ;)

I didn't even know about that O.O. Thanks for the tip. I always manually cropped my screenshots.
You're welcome. I always try new things to get the best of my computer? Have you ever tried the snipping tool (or whatever it's called in english). it allows region grabbin', window or full screen grabibing.

Nope, is that a software to download or is it built-in Windows 7?
It's a built-in.
i got some tool somewhere form that allows me to record gifs with an overlay window. Really handy
I have a chrome extension that does that allong with screenshots.
Thanks guys. Back on topic, it would be cool if we could import images in the Power Toy to the closest matching elements and see them self destruct :P
I wonder what a walrii would do O.O
It would mewo. Like me :)
I don't think this is meowing?!

and that has 300000 views O.O
^wow I didn't notice O.O, I just searched walrus sounds :P

Not possible sorry. It would mewo. Mewo is the universal animal language.
P'KAH is what we use as universal animal sound.

Also those walrus sounds are really weird. O.O I am betting that it's from a zoo where he learned to vocalize during walrus shows. :P
Anyway we should perhaps go back on the topic. I wonder if there are image->powder toy scenery converters to test Walrii or anything else in Powder Toy?
We must do a bad lip reading of a waleus, and make it sing.

it would actually surprise me if there wasnt already a generator script for this
I could not find any so far in Google, though. It could just be too complicated to make.
Could, but you'd expect it to be easy enough to make with lua support...
Or you could just make one using tnt
