I recently got a new wave of jumk mails, that kind of "click that link for no reason but do it!!". Actually they seem pretty similar...
(they both arrived within 24hours)

two different levels of "quality" as only the last one uses valid usernames for the other "recipiants".
I understand a hacker doesnt send out a hundred thousand mails like this every day. But what I dont understand is why they dont put some work into it when they do...
only adding real names for the recipients (Albert Miller, John Cena) and a fake name for himself, too (Fred) would already make it look a lot more trustworthy...
Do you have wonderful christmas mails to share, too? :)
*actually that was 2 of the 3 mails I got for christmas... ._.
EDIT2: next one arrived:
they seem to lve fake medics lately...

and nope I didnt open any of the links and recommend you dont do it either... ^^
EDIT (DJ): Fixed typo in topic title

holy walrus O.O
dj? I think this IS from the future.
What I read from i is...
> you get rich. verry rich.
> the girls will start loving you. ALL of them! (except my gf <3)
> you will be like "c programming" and join the police
> girls will love you even more (they love cops).
> you eventually help ensuring mankind's next generation (...)
> you marry a super cute japanese girl that does NOT sound like a chewing toy
> you get even richer
> you wake up...
> you start crying, seeing it was just a dream
> feels.jpg
also omg vista print... O_o once they have your email you're cursed D:
better change your email adress... <_<
To think we were looking at Vistaprint a few months ago when looking for a Merch store to sell CW t-shirts O.O. Anyway we did not get that many e-mails from them in our CW admin inbox after we unsubscribed, but beforehand it was quite bad.
Anyway CW inbox is pretty much being flooded by junk mail since last month so until
@Streetwalrus install a Roundcube anti-spam then our admin inbox is pretty much unuseable at this point.
I have absolutely no idea how to do anti spam on self hosted mail, I don't even know how self hosted mail works. <_<
@Juju if you please. :P
Anti-spam, yeah, gotta configure that one of those times.
I'd love to help but I lack any pre-knowledge... :/
If theres anything I can help with anyways please let me know :)
As I probably said, if you know a bit of Linux and HTML/PHP stuff, I can always set you up with an account in the server.
I know linux basics and am good at HTML, too, but I suck at php... :/
also Im not sure if teh other staff guys would be ine with it xD
Bit if there's every anything particular you need help with just feel free to ask ^^ :)
Solution: move to Gmail. It's the only email solution that has decent spam filtering x.x
what are we currently using? Yahoo? Aol?
We're using Roundcube, which is hosted directly on CW server. I don't think anyone uses Yahoo nor AOHell e-mail anymore :P
Roundcube is just a webmail client, it has nothing to do with spam filtering which would be on the postfix/dovecot side.
We could use a Gmail, but it's a bit expensive for more than 10 users.
Erm, Gmail is free (unless for multi-user accounts it's paid?)
Yeah. It's not worth it.
Yeah, Google offer their Gmail and other apps with your custom domain name, but there's a limit on how much users you can create under each domain.
Well you can redirect it easily if you already have a mail server, I'm already doing it with my own email.
Ah I see. I guess we'll have to find a solution about Roundcube or an alternative if it's easier to code an anti-spam.
Well with the redirect we could use a regular gmail account and even send email from our own address without any issue. The only thing is we'd have to share the password, as usual.
You got to love the dating spam emails like "(Heart Emoji) Click to see single Asians/Russians/Walrii near you (Heart Emoji)" :-\
SpamAssassin?
Yeah we'll have to look at that, probably also graylisting if necessary.
@xMarminq_ yeah I noticed since the last two years that almost all Gmail spam got emojis in the titles >.<
Been a while I saw those emoji spam. I mostly get newsletters (those flagged as spam, I get a lot of those), people who want to boost my app on Google Play (sorry, but no, also f*ck you), traps (I don't even have WhatsApp or whatever, also you got the wrong bank) and nigerian scams (I like to read those sometimes when I'm bored) in my spam folder.
I often get e-mail offering me to submit my songs to contests, to boost my audience, get more Facebook/Twitter likes and stuff like that. I prefer not taking any chances, in case they steal my work or try to take over my accounts.
aaaand I got another one :D

By the way, make sure to disable links when copy/pasting junk mail, to avoid linking to potential viruses or other things.
added a [b] around the second T of HTTP and then adapted underlining and color so it looks like a link :)
never linked to the actual stuff, dont worry ;)
aaaand another junk mail arrived, yaay (didnt notice that one earlier im sorry)

almost expected something like "You winned" in the title, but hey, actually no typos in the entire email O.O
just the DOLLAR or POIND or whatever sign is not shown properly, which is pretty common for such emails <_<
why am I getting that any spam mails? D:
And what is more importent: Why arent they more ccreative? D:
They don't have to be more creative since people actually fall for that c, otherwise they wouldn't do it ;)
Phone scams are still widespread here by the way. They mostly target eldery people. X.x
The classic is someone claiming he's the person's little son or son and that he's in jail and needs $1000+ to get out, so he asks the person for "help", and eldery people fall for it.
In my case, it's more my grandmother who claims she got such a call about me and I'm supposed to fall for it? And then, after an awkward moment she laughs, haha you fell for it xD
lolnope >_>
Phone scams? More like (insert accent here) "Hi this is windows we are calling to fix your computer." And then all these people i know did that and gg rekt comp.

...
It was just a joke? ;)
It would be funny if someone here started getting junk mail relevant to walruses.
Also I remember my Gmail spam folder was getting 3100 spams per month. My e-mail address was everywhere back then. >.<
I also remember when I started considering trying to sell my music through http://www.imorecords.com/ in 2007 and subscribed to their newsletter. All things went fine, with one newsletter/update every few day, until the following happened O.O
(https://img.codewalr.us/imorecordspam.gif)
Basically they sent me over months worth of e-mails a second time, but I did not notice the dates in the titles at the time, so I thought they just decided to go on a crazy spam rampage, so I marked them as spam and unsubscribed lol.
huh free viagra now for the half price... Does that make any sense ???
and the second guy sounded like he was trying to sell submarines ;D
I never got spammed THAT bad by one single site O.O
But I continu to get my "cheap medics" and "tricks to stay healthy" emails every few weeks
Edit: I actually AM GETTING that much spam as well I just noticed:
look at the days they sent all that c...
Recently just got a Invoice.pdf.exe XD
yeah such viruses were pretty common a few years ago. Some misconfigurated windows PCs actually don't show the .exe ending... <_<
Windows never shows the extension by default. And that's a big problem in a lot of cases. :/
jup but there once was a similar expolit in apple's OSX: they added a ton of spaces " " before the ending, so it was shown as NoVirus... instead of NoVirus_____.app but it was quickly fixed by apple.
Yeah the first thing I do on a fresh install of Windows is enable extensions. Also dlvr.it sends a lot of e-mails x.x
Am I getting rich?
