*cough*Pokespire*cough*
That too, but only as long as it stands out from 3rd gen :P (since your game is competing head-on against gpSP-Nspire and gbc4nspire.)

Yeah we want to make an enhanced 3rd gen style game (maybe with 4th gen battle engine enhancements).

Something that would be cool is if it had enhancements such as allowing the character to walk anywhere and diagonally, not necessarily tile by tile, and maybe if some of the graphics were custom. In battles, for example, there should be battle backgrounds like in Final Fantasy VI to make battles look more realistic. Maybe there could also be an easter egg or cheat code that turns Walrein into Walrii :walrii:

I mean a 3rd-gen game would be awesome, but since people can simply download the GBA ROM to their calcs, spicing up the brand new game would probably be a must. That said, with your graphics being 24x24 you will need custom tiles in the first place anyway so I guess that alone could spice the thing up.

Yup. We kinda want to stay faithful to the original pokemon game (and in our opinion gen5 is totally screwed up so not worth looking at, and we can't play gen6).

What made it screwed in your opinion?

-The insane amount of new pokemons
-The weird views on the map (though that's more an opinion thing)
-The graphics are ugly, especially this gen's new legendaries
-...

Isn't gen 5 the one that brought full of weird pokémons like beds, alarm clocks and any other unlikely objects with eyes added on them because they were running out of ideas?

Also I'm gonna split this discussion into a new topic lol because it's totally off-topic now :P

IIRC since they aren't adding that much anymore.

Agreed, but I liked the animated sprites, htat was the only reason to  buy 5g

I'd like to help you a little for the engine, but I'm affraid that there is too much effects and things to think first before implementing the engine itself.

We're gonna hit 1k next gen, I'm pretty sure of that.
Gen3 has 384 and gen 4 almost 500 iirc, but gen 5 is around 700 and Unys has absolutely no Pokémon in common with older gens.

You could probably try to do like Pokémon Topaz and only include certain Pokémons. For example, include 150 total but only what you consider the best or most popular.

Then should I only include Magikarp ?

It definitively needs Pikachu, Mudkipz, Ditto, Magikarp, Walrein and ideally a lobster-shaped Pokémon. :P

There is already one (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Corphish_%28Pok%C3%A9mon%29). But it's pink when it's shiny, not blue :/

I guess that can work too. There could be an easter egg using Konami code turning Magikarp into an ASCII art (83+ style) Blub, Corpish into that lobster that used to be in Omni's banner and Walrein into Walrii.

Yup I thought of Corphish when you said lobster. :P
