Title: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on April 25, 2015, 09:13:24 AM
So I know that some people here play Minecraft and I kinda gotten into it recently, after a 5 years break from it, although I only play sporadically and in creative mode. I also need to update my copy of Minecraft because I think it's from 2013 (although my Xbox One copy is obviously up to date). I thought it would be nice if we had a thread where to share our creations so we don't keep everything for ourselves.

This is Woolrii:

I'll try to post screenshots of my Xbox One world if I progress further in it later (and if I learn how to send Xbox Live screenshots to my computer)

Woah that looks cool actually. I didn't know you also mined the entire inside :D. And I assume the 2nd pic is from a different sphere, right?

The second pic is the same sphere, but when i was mining. The white blocks are from a "building guide" which shows where you need to mine to create a spesific shape, in this case a sphere :)

Aah nice. By the way is there a mod to start a new map with literally nothing except the bottom layer of blocks that has nothing underneath?

Also nice CKH4.

Yes, but I think it only works in PC and PE edition. If you go into advanced world settings, there is an option to make it superflat and you can change what spawns underneath you. eg: One Grass and One Bedrock under that.

You can customize using a button under the superflat option in 1.6 and up.

Darn that is big Ivoah! :O Nice job though. That must have taken a while to make. Are there any forms of timers in Minecraft or at least a way to have a delay between stuff? I am curious if it would be possible to do animations using redstone, such as with lights forming some sort of TV monitor? And of course I mean without any mod, since I often play on the Xbox One.

Making adders in minecraft isn't that hard. Making computers in minecraft isn't that hard either, just a little time consuming.

Building computers in minecraft is fun :P

As for timers, repeaters are your friend.

@Ivoah: What kind of adder is that? Ripple carry?

Yeah, there are "repeaters". They cause a 1-4 tick delay (1 tick = 1/20th 10th of a second) but also "refresh" the signal since it only travels 15 blocks from the source. Also yeah there have been TV's, even entire PC's. Though i don't really know whats hot, i haven't really been keeping up with the community lately.

Repeaters are used for delays while comparators are for comparing stuff like I think it does and and or comparisons but don't quote me on it. The main reason why animations are not feasible on a large scale is because of mincrafts lazy block update and screen draw. The further the block is from the person the more likely it is to require multiple attempts to refresh and draw the screen. I think it was originally implemented as lag prevention but in my opinion it has to go. If they changed the engine to glsl itd be much easier for them to fix it but that update is still far away.  The best way to do animations is in 3d as a car or boat or plane or train that the character stands in.

Does 15 blocks from the source means we cannot update more than 15 blocks at a time with one switch?

I thought there was a game tick (1/20 of a second) and a redstone tick and a redstone tick 1/4 of a second (from a repeater) so a full seconds delay could be achieved from a single repeater tell me if I am mistaken though.

Yes repeater ticks are longer than game ticks iirc. You can achieve 1 game tick repeats with complicated Redstone using a bud switch. Anyways I wish that mc had 0 tick repeaters.
Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)
Post by: Snektron on May 10, 2015, 03:49:43 PM
You can, its called instant wire. And sorry, my bad, repeaters run at 1/10th of a second. Though you can delay it to 4/10th by right-clicking it .
Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)
Post by: alexgt on May 10, 2015, 05:54:20 PM
Ohh... I guess we both were a little off. Instant wire can be achieved with pistons slime blocks and redstone blocks I think.

Its not exactly instant wire and it does use piston bud to achieve it. Its really only good for making computers.

Post by: alexgt on May 10, 2015, 06:11:54 PM
If I was making a computer I would use command blocks for insta-wire then it could actually be usable and not super slow.

The thing I thought about doing personally was to have one switch light up the entire underground city. However the city is getting quite large and there is one building that is at the very bottom of the map (while the rest is near the top, under sea level.

I need to learn how to do that. Is it very hard?

Also my map took a bit longer to make than normal, becuase since I am under sea level, in order to build further I must empty lakes from their water so that my city doesn't get flooded.

Not using pistons? If used correctly, they could improve general circuitry speed by cutting on the delays.

Meh, cut me some slack. I only played for a month or so in 2011 and only started playing again recently, plus we should be able to play how we want anyway since it's in creative mode and in this case, offline.

Besides, most stuff is vertical so far anyway so it will take a long while before it spreads across the map. And the Xbox One version is pretty skyscraper-friendly considering holding down the build button lets you spawn blocks ultra fast while flying up (about 20 in one second)

Yeah sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I meant it more as a real life story because some people I knew would play it in class instead of doing work. I'm probably the same way with calculator coding in class but I really don't know.

You can also hold shift or ctrl and switch world type and it will come up with a debug option or something like that. You can change the amount and where ores spawn and stuff.

Hmm I should check actually. There seemed to be extra options available on world creation, but I don't know if they were just the regular options such as disabling day/night cycles.

Ok thanks. I was wondering due to the wiki not stating anything about it. Not that I mind, though, as I can always switch back to the PC if I want more freedom. I kinda like Xbox One controls, though, especially the rapid fire mode (or glitch?) when building vertical structures.
Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)

I do really like the rapid fire blocks. That would be really nice on PC. Maybe they'll add an option to change the block place speed while in creative.
Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on May 24, 2015, 12:55:01 AM
Oh I meant rapid fire as in the gamepad when you hold down a button to do things at a rapid rate (like turbo controllers on the SNES). On the Xbox One, when you hold down the button to place blocks while flying up, in some cases it allows you to build towers ultra fast (you place around 20 blocks per second). I don't think it is possible in the PC version unless you map the mouse button to a key and use some software to have it pressed a certain amount of times per second.
Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)
Post by: CKH4 on May 24, 2015, 01:10:39 AM
That's what I meant too, I guess I just did a bad job showing it. Also its probably limited in game because holding down the right mouse button places slowly.

Anyways there will apparently be a new dungeon in Minecraft PC so that's cool. Also Minecraft PE will be getting a UI update. Also a new beta for android MCPE.

I guess it was still fun, though, since Minecraft allows you to be so creative. :P Either way, my undeground city will most likely reach its limits soon anyway, and if I decide to expand it further, then I can always break a wall again then continue further. I would say that the most annoying thing is to get rid of lava and water.

One thing I plan in a more distant future is to make the city rectangular, surrounded by walls, then eventually enclose it. Of course, most buildings will eventually have stuff inside them too.

Mining out the rocks is the most boring part, as TNT doesn't even take out enough of them, in addition to damaging everything else. Building walls isn't that bad in that case, though, since it takes about 20-25 seconds to mine out then build one column.

Ok so the entire wall of quartz is surrounding the base/town I made now, but I am not done yet with removing the rocks that are all over the place.

I also tried to make a mushroom cloud out of lava further on the map and tried holding the bottom in with glass, but it didn't work as planned, as the lava would flow back outside the range I wanted.

I wouldn't even bother. Besides, in survival mode I would probably be more trying to survive than being creative, not to mention the process of surviving would hider my creativity, anyway.

In any case I might try to make a little push at one point to finish taking all the stone out of that big hole I made, because I am betting that when Super Mario Maker comes out, most time I normally spend making Minecraft stuff will be spent on Mario levels. :P

Yeah my issue is that when I play Minecraft, it's mainly to create anything I want. For adventure games I would rather grab some JRPG or Zelda game. But again, Minecraft survival at least has the sandbox part of the game. Most video games that lets you build towns will do it automatically, after you defeat some bosses or finish quests. Eg in Soul Blazer, there are souls trapped in monster pools and when you clear a pool, new houses and people appear in the villages. You can't build your own house and stuff.

Yeah on this computer i almost completely gave up on warez right from the start. I always seemed to find a freeware, often open-source alternative, even if I am on Windows.

Anyway, back on topic. I should post screenshots of my finished world at one point. I might add more stuff but not much.

It would most likely be possible in ASM or C but not HP PPL, unless that tool on Youtube that lets you control the computer with a calc lets you send variable content or data to the computer, and even then, you would still need the ability to create a GIF file or data that can easily be converted into an animated GIF using another software, and there would probably be quite a bit of slowdowns.

Also here is an update on my Xbox One world:

Seriously though, you can't even come close with textures. the only thing you can do is tiles. 2 textures of a while block can't be different.

This is actualy moving (i didn't bother to make gif's) and can be changed at any time.

The list is there : http://codewalr.us/771/24268
Cumred sent me a list of other mods, gonna look into it. It's only going to open to a wider audience if we can get a host though. It's like $6 a month for a pretty good hosting plan. I have no means of paying online though so someone else would have to volunteer, or we could use CW donations. Either way, let's move conversation to that thread, it's not really about creations.

Is it possible to add new mobs or replace their skins for everyone on the server (without requiring the user to install custom skins)? A friendly Walrii mob would be cool :walrii: (like in tr1p1ea's Minecraft clone)

You can't create new mobs, but you can reskin them as servers can supply their own resource pack. (Assuming that by "without requiring the user to install custom skins" you mean that users don't require to install them manually)
Quote from: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Resource_packA default resource pack can also be set on a server by changing adding a link to a .zip file download after the line resource-pack= in the server properties file. Users can still opt out of using the resource pack or choose not to download it though

EDIT: I forgot to mention that, and I don't really know how, you can create custom model for blocks (and maybe entities, not sure).

Okay, then server resource packs should do the trick, as long as people have enabled it client-side, which should be enabled by default.

I've been addicted to the mod Better Than Wolves lately, and have been playing on a server  called Quackers.

Outside of my house:
The red and white windmill was my main power source before I got far enough up the tech tree to get a water wheel. I still keep the windmill so people can find my base easier and for decoration.

First floor, from the entrance:
The gearbox labeled "makes all the things happen" used to have axles coming out of the top of it to connect to the windmill, but now it gets power from the waterwheel a floor below. The brick structure is my kiln, above a bunch of hibachis. The turntable with the block and torn (the turntable looks a bit like a piston here) is used to turn on and off the gearbox that controls the expansion and contraction of the bellows, which gets my fire hot enough to melt stuff in my crucible (the clay looking thing in front of the kiln) and to allow the cauldron to render items (the thing next to the cauldron).

Second floor, from the rope (pretty much a ladder, but 10x cooler):
This is where I farm all of my animals, and I also used to farm my plants here. The waterwheel connects to a saw to help butcher cows (more on that later), and transmits power up a floor higher to power all of my machinery. Behind the water wheel is an auto chicken farm, although it has no chickens in it right now.

Second floor, different angle:

Cow butcher:
Cows are really dangerous to try and butcher. If you hit them, the entire group will panic and kick, and they kick HARD. So, either I kill them with arrows, or I come up with another method. Here, I use a saw. I open up a fence, lead a cow in, and it gets killed by the saw. In Better Than Wolves, baby animals cannot jump higher than a half block, so I don't risk accidentally murdering babies.

Third floor, plant farms:
Plant farms. In Better Than Wolves, you cannot create new source blocks, so I brought down water from the previous floor to water my plants.

Third floor, more plant farm stuff:
Since I cannot create new source blocks, I use screw pumps to get the water to a higher elevation.

Fourth floor:
I use these to power the screw pumps.

Fourth floor, another angle:

Title: Re: Your Minecraft creations (world screenshots)

Yeah its for managing what ranks can use what commands, so users wont be able to stop the server. Also my chat rank plugin is permission based, so eg users with the permission "chat.user" can have the format "[user] %name" and admins havr chat.admin which gived the format "[admin] %name" etc. (All configurable ofc)

@Juju get permissionsex, its the only one that works easily
Unless there is a new one, ive not been paying attention to the community for quite some time

IIRC it's to prevent users from using mass TNT or certain things, but I could be wrong. Basically he doesn't want someone to go on a randomness rampage and set TNT accross the town and destroying it all. :P

Nice. How did you build those blocks?

Also c4ooo to make it look nice, once you finish the theater and pong machine, you should enclose the redstone computer into a building, such as a part of the theater, so that it looks like another building part of the city. Make sure to light it up inside, though.

I've added displays! :D They can run at about 6 fps at most though :P
Also i've been thinking about dropping OC as library and make it stand alone, since it has a few nice things but also limits a lot.
but it will be way more work to implement things...

It would be interesting if you could run some game on it, like Illusiat 1. :P

@Unicorn was this on the CodeWalrus server? Or is Industrial Craft 2 a mod on a different one?

Also i don't play much because I am coding a lot lately. I would like to redo some FFII maps in MC tho :P (with the 3*9 tiles)

Aah I see. And yeah on juju server we can't really blow up stuff because it seems that only one block of TNT gets processed every 10 second or so so if you place 100 TNT blocks it takes 3 days to blow up completely. >.<

I actually used a nuke, which is essentially one block of tnt that explodes largely :P

Aah right. Do they explode faster and with less lag than multiple TNT blocks?

Well, 9 of them take about 15 seconds after detonation. (That is what made that huge hole)  It goes one after another after another. I am somewhat surprised that my server could handle such block updates, but I guess 2 gb is good enough. There also is no particle effects.

Also, do we have a Survival server for the forums? Or is it just creative?

What about 1 nuke? Also we have creative, but our affiliate Bosaiknet has survival.

A minecraft server does not update when there are no players on.

Considering how long it has been and that it has been restarted a few times, maybe it's done? After all, before we left it was almost done IIRC.
