Modified my PC with a windows for light and a fan. While I was at it I put a USB port in the front which is handy. Here's some pics.

Cut all the holes with a Dremel.

Also smoothed them out with the Dremel. And yeah I kind of cut into my old Radeon sticker  :ninja:

Hm I like the bottom part actually, although that thing at the top with the sticker on it doesn't look very estethical imho (especially since it looks tilted right by 10°). Is it final or do you still plan to continue updating it?
u/Caleb Hansberry July 21, 2016, 04:41:05 PM
It does need some updating. The top part is indeed a mistake, I just needed the Usb port and needed my computer (took a full day with the computer unplugged) so it's less precise. Other than that I plan on changing the lighting to be red and to span the whole system instead of just the front.

Pro tip: add a dust filter to that fan vent.

Good idea. Where does one get one? (no computer stores here)

Blue lightning would be nice as well, or maybe green. Green isn't done very often IIRC, right?

Also is it safe to spray-paint a computer case? (just the outer plastic of course)
u/Caleb Hansberry July 22, 2016, 07:20:05 AM
Yeah, I had considered spray painting it. But I don't want to cause I think it being beige is amusing nowadays :) and this same case used to house two other computers, a 486 DOS computer (was a beast with a CD-ROM drive!), then for quite a while I had an Athlon XP and 1GB RAM and it was my main computer, with an old 5.25" 10GB HDD running Windows XP. Those were the good old days when I'd get my wifi adapter close to the window and connect to the neighbor's wifi cause we didn't have internet and I'd watch Madeline and play Minecraft online deep into the night with the brightness all the way down on my CRT monitor. Haha what a strong memory that is...

You probably can find some mesh in hardware stores. Make sure the spacing is wide enough to let air through comfortably without letting dust in.

What if there is no hardware store where he lives either? :P
u/novenary July 22, 2016, 04:29:52 PM
That would suck. :P

Well, USA and Canada has several remote areas or small villages/cities in the middle of nowhere, like 9 hours away from the nearest commercial district. Even New York state has some.

Ironically, though, in Quebec it's often those remote locations that have shrinking population figures, while in USA it's big cities that usually do. I personally wouldn't want to stay in a small city lol.

Yes, I have a hardware store near me, lol. Even though I do live far out in the country, it's about an hour to town, not quite nine.
u/Dream of Omnimaga July 25, 2016, 07:41:48 AM
I was exagerating a bit lol. But I'm glad you got an hardware store nearby at least.

I finally found the windows I made for the side years ago! I just had a hole in the side cause I lost it, but here it is, I carved it myself out of plexiglass:

Here's another pic of the front mod now that I have a nice red case fan installed in the front:

By the way yes the duct-taped USB port on the front it a mistake that I haven't figured out how to fix yet.

Very nice.

Do you think plastic Bondo would work for fixing the USB ports?
