For those who never heard how different the Japanese version of Castlevania III sounds like on the Famicom:

Yeah, Castlevania III on Famicom had a VRC6, which allowed for two additional sound channels. They weren't compatible with the American NES, so they had to "downgrade" the music to the usual 5 channels. Still had the best MMC chip to come out in the NES lifetime, though.

Yeah true. That said, Castlevania III music still didn't sound bad on the American NES. Also the most advanced Famicom music was probably Lagrande Point in Japan. In America it was definitively Journey to Silius:

For Silius, they just used the WAV channel for the bass instead of drums and used the channel they normally use for bass for drums IIRC.

This is not 100% accurate per Sega Genesis standards, but this is awesome. Imagine if Chrono Trigger had come out on the Sega Genesis with such soundtrack O.O

Also yeah for those who never played Chrono Trigger, not only this game is a must try, but also we got rickroll'd (sort of) by the game from 1995 to 2008 without knowing.

This must have gotten a lot of influence from Radiorama:

Compare with the song Aliens:

It's an awesome rendition, though, for Sega Genesis. Also the Outrun 2019 soundtrack is just friggin awesome, especially the following songs:

I'm unsure if this is legit NES music but it still sounds cool:

Also this boss remix

I wish there was a Sega Genesis remix of it that sounded legit.

^ The first one sounds like it has far too many channels for VRC6, though it might be possible to do something like it with N163 (which offers up to eight(!) arbitrary-waveform channels). The second one sounds like, I'm guessing, MMC5 audio expansion.

Discovered some nice tunes recently while watching Games Done Quick's feed:

Little Samson (mainly the "Golem's Theme" track)
Gremlins 2: The New Batch, especially the level music
(both NES Sunsoft games)

Shantae, a little-known Game Boy Color game developed by WayForward and released by Capcom in 2002, a year after the Game Boy Advance had come out. Jake Kaufman composed some impressive stuff that almost sounds like it uses more sound channels than the GBC actually has!

The Game Boy Turok games make excellent use of the voices, too. Alberto Jose Gonzalez is a pretty cool composer; he also did music for NES Asterix and The Smurfs.

Someone posted this on Facebook. Would be interesting to attend a chiptunes rave live. @kotu might like it because it contains some songs that are reminiscent of raves and hardcore and stuff lol
