^This. But I doubt such contest would ever happen for the simple reason that they don't really listen to their customers unless you are affiliated with them, and even then, if they listened to Kerm and TI-Planet staff, then most 84+CSE and Nspire bugs would have been fixed long ago.

Seriously, though, I am appalled at how fast TI discontinues French calcs now, only to re-introduce them under a new name, sometimes immediately. If they ever switch names around to the point where they are the exact same as different US models, then imagine how many e-mails ticalc.org and the file authors will get from French people wondering why games won't send to their calculator model.

Right now it's not too bad with the TI-83 Plus.Fr <> 84 Plus thing, but I am betting some people will confuse the TI-82 Plus/Advanced with the TI-82 and TI-82 Stats. In fact, people already often confused the TI-82 Stats as an actual TI-82, while in fact it's a TI-83.

Also when I visit HP Museum I often got confused when people brought up the HP Voyager calculators, because of Texas Instruments' Voyage 200. Some people even mixed names up in the past.

Indeed. I think some actually exists or already existed, though. But it was more me poking fun at TI-France for renaming their calcs so often.

The 84+Pocket SE (you forgot the "+", it is only absent for the 84 Pocket.fr but it is back for the 84+Pocket SE) is actually pretty legit in my opinion. OK, it is basically a 84+SE, but at least it is still something new since it has another case, and it's name is not confusing since it contains "84+SE".

Actually yeah the 84 Pocket SE (or 84+Pocket SE happened for real. It was only sold in China IIRC, though. The renaming is still annoying, though. >.<

At least if they had renamed the calcs when the Pocket models came in then reverted back to previous names after discontinuing them it would have been better.

Possibly multiple models with differents colors, a strap to avoid throwing your calc into the TV or  limited memory/performances because they don't make the calc, it's the experience which makes it.

I'm more suspecting dual screen. But Nintendo will stick to the 90's like Casio and put a resistive touchscreen with a stylus in it.

It would be interesting if someone updated WabbitDS actually. It's ancient, though >.< (2006) so maybe it would be best to restart from current versions or redo it from scratch.

As for hardware modding, IMHO what would be cool in short terms is if someone actually tried to make a real Voyage 400, like in the 2003 April Fools joke on ticalc.org. A classic would come to birth XD

Who wants to bet that's what's next? A separate model name for each color they introduce! Then they can just discontinue colors and reintroduce them as new models. Saves costs over their current strategy, see. :D

On the other hand they could do the opposite:

New color calc: $130
Replacement monochrome model: $120
Reintroduced and renamed color calc: $150

They do that with food, after all :P

I would love a wabbit for ds update. It would actually give me a reason to use my ds light again.

Also ti's marketing is rediculous, I can't believe that they've lasted with all the names that don't make sense.

And DJ are you talking about double cheeseburger vs. hamburger vs. like double whopper or something.

THis would be nice for graphing stuff, though. You would see equations in the first screen or a table, while the bottom screen would have the graph window.

That said, since one day smartphones will most likely replace calculators entirely (it's possible if they do it right, unlike Lexibook's attempt) so I doubt any new company will attempt to enter the graphing calculator hardware market.

But since schools still disagree with using a calculator for everything I expect it to take a while for them to start using phones instead.

Most likely? What all these laws or actions to block smartphones and now watches (http://www.engadget.com/2015/02/08/schools-ban-watches-from-exams/)? That would be unlikely. See, we're in a era where even an stupid watch can have a frigging CPU which can eat billions of operations per second and we have to stay with simple calculators because they are only made to calculate. They don't care anymore about specs or UI because their main goal is not to give the best gaming device nor the perfect 60 FPS smooshness when one searches a function hidden in the catalog but they have a decent system which worked through ages and changes just some things for attract some customers. Remove the QVGA color screen of the CSE or the Prizm and you'll have pretty much the same calculator than before, remove the more powerful processor for the legacy one and your calc will stay the same, they probably won't add the same functions than a smartphone. The evolutions are, IMO, just way to slightly make up with with the era but mostly to improve the production cost (maybe making old z80 isn't beneficial, the color screen could be the only thing they added as a market thing).

Yeah TI and others always try to keep their profits margins as high as possible. And with competition from tablets, they already started reducing calculator prices in France. See the 83PCE. But as prices go down this means they will upgrade calc specs even less.
