Title: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 24, 2014, 07:50:35 PM
Ok so I didn't have time to do this until now, but here is now a video game pickups thread. I thought that the previous title led to confusion, though, so I made it clearer.

Anyway my latest find is Bases Loaded 3 for the NES in complete condition (although the foam inside the box is missing). I also got Robocop 3 for the SNES and Drakengard 2 a while ago and soon I am planning to get an Xbox One. I think my bro might get SSBU but he's not sure yet.

Kirby Adventure is awesome. It almost looks like a SNES game sometimes. Btw another NES game I like is Ghost N Goblins but it's very hard. Super Ghouls N Ghosts for the SNES is even harder, though.

I should post my collection at one point, but it will take a very long while since I have like 100+ retro games. >.<

I need to get some more consoles before I start collecting games. But again, I might also purchase the hardware then try to hack it. :P

Do you have a Wii? Because Juju used to hack it.

As for myself there are games I got that I don't have the console for. For example, I got one Xbox One game (Halo) and one Sega Saturn game (Sega Rally) but nothing to run them yet. :P

I don't have a Wii but I might get a Wii U at one point. :)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 27, 2014, 06:12:58 AM
Ah right, I am unsure if the Wii U can be hacked right now. Since it's like the Xbox 360 and PS3 in terms of DLC and some online features, I fear you could get banned if you mod the console or hack it, so it would be best that if you ever hack it that you keep it disconnected from the Internet or something. I don't know much about Wii U stuff, though, but I remember that it could happen on Xbox Live.

On the other hand, the Wii U can run Wii games and is compatible with the Wiimote, plus now there's a Gamecube-like gamepad for SSB for Wii U. It's the only new gen console that is backwards compatible with physical games from the previous generation.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: novenary on November 27, 2014, 08:36:50 AM
Interesting facts about the U :
-It's hackable in Wii mode thanks to the same game exploits as on the Wii
-This allows to run GameCube games
-The new "SSB gamepad" is an actual GC pad (you can plug it into a GC and it'll work), Nintendo made a USB adapter for the U
-Hackers are working their way out of Wii mode just like on the Wii with GC mode back in the days (I know it's already possible to unlock the CPU for Linux to use the extra power, no idea about GPU/RAM etc)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 27, 2014, 02:23:06 PM
Ah nice I didn't know it was still hackable at the Wii level. I guess that could help then. And lol if you could run GC games from there that would be epic. It was  a shame that the Wii U lacked that option by default, seeing it has the Wii menu.

And I see. I didn't know the gamepad was like this. It's nice that they did this at least.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: novenary on November 27, 2014, 02:43:45 PM
All that is because Nintendo is awsome. :P The Xbox One and PS4 are not really worth buying anymore (except for a few exclusivities most of their games are also available on PC and you can get a better PC for the same price). But the Wii U has all them Nintendo licenses and it's better than the PS3 so it's totally worth the 300 bucks to me. :)

Neither if the three consoles interests me... I'm quite happy with my computer and my retro consoles. The PS4 and XOne are PC under the console hood and the Wii U is too expensive for what is it IMO...
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 27, 2014, 11:37:27 PM
Street I personally have no interest in the PS4 because of the lack of exclusives, but I am interested in the Xbox One because it's the only console on which you can get Forza 5 and Halo Master Chief Collection. As for the Wii U it was mostly for the Nintendo exclusives but yeah I think it's too expensive for a Nintendo console. Normally, Nintendo consoles drop under $200 after 1 year.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: novenary on November 28, 2014, 06:55:57 AM
Yeah even the Wii was cheaper. But again the U stated at $500 or so. I guess they can't sell it lower because the 3DS is like $170 and it's selling very well.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 28, 2014, 08:04:21 AM
Actually the Wii U launched at $349.99 for the deluxe (and current) set, while the basic set launched at $299.99. The basic set had no pack-in game and lower diskspace and it was discontinued shortly after release.

IIRC the Wii launched around those prices and even increased for a while, but then it quickly dropped to under $200.

I think Nintendo decided to wait before lowering Wii U prices, since they figured that Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors, SSB and Zelda 2015 would dope their sales. They'll probably lower the price if sales are lower than expected even with those games.

As for the 3DS it started at $250, but sales were poor and Nintendo dropped the price at $170 just a few months after release.

But they offered some games to alleviate the pain for the ones who paid the day one release. Show me another gamencompany which does the same!
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on November 28, 2014, 12:12:08 PM
Yeah I remember that lol. Otherwise they would have alienated their customer base. In USA, there are sports teams that sells season tickets for $500 so that people save money on individual tickets, but then when their individual ticket sales are low they offer individual tickets for like $5 each (sometimes even for free!). Do they really think that at $5 per game or less, people will spend $500 on a 41-game package the next year?

EDIT I finally got my Xbox One! :D
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

Ok so I got a crapload of dirt cheap games from Dollarama again:

-Major League Baseball 2k10 + The Plan, sealed together for $3
-NBA 2k10 + Harvey Birdman (some Phoenix Wright knockoff I think) for PS2, sealed together for $3
-Kung Zhu for Nintendo DS for $3

In similar conditions on Ebay, the basketball game is like $7 alone, the baseball one $6, Kung Zhu about $5, Harvey Birdman $7 and The Plan $2.

Update again, with boxing day haul :D

I got Eternal Sonata Xbox 360 for $10
Rangarok Odyssey PSVita for $10
And Sonic Boom (brand new at Target) Wii U for $30

And now my Microplay card is full so I can get an extra used game with $20 off. I didn't find anything else that interested me, though, so I am saving it for later.

Just bought a copy of Music for ps1 (prequel to mtv music generator) and Link's awakening for gb.

Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 27, 2014, 10:20:38 PM
Oooh awesome that you got Music 1. I got a copy myself because I won the 2009 TIMGUL Xmas Competition by Cold Storage, and I also got Music 3000, a Cold Storage hat and various other stuff on that day.

I can't run it myself though since my PS2 isn't modded to run PAL games, so I use an emulator.

Music 1 has every sample from Music Generator/Music 2000 and it has 16 video channels instead of like 4. However, it has 8 fewer sound channels and controls are weird. A lot of people still use it.

Awesome finds guys. I myself got Starwing a year ago for $40 (it was $60 because of its condition) but the guy let it go to me for $20 cheaper and it's very impressive for a SNES game. As for Bubble Bobble I should try to get it someday (not the sequel, though, because it's over $200)

Oh I meant Bubble Bobble Part #2, which is a different game. Rainbow Island only came out in Europe IIRC, while Bubble Bobble Part #2 came out in USA. Check how much the latter costs on Ebay nowadays. According to Ebay, it's around $275 just for the cartridge and $160 for the manual now. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Games-/139973/i.html?_from=R40%7CR40&_nkw=bubble+bobble+part+2+nes

NSMB Wii was awesome :D, I got all of the NSMB games, although I don't like the Luigi game as much on the Wii U. Also the Wii U NSMB is hard! O.O

And MKWii is my favorite MK game. It doesn't have the best graphics compared to the Wii U version but I seemed to enjoy it the most in general.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Duke "Tape" Eiyeron on January 09, 2015, 08:45:32 AM
I prefer MKDD for memories reasons. I played three NSMB: 1, Wii and 2. I think the 2 (3DS) is cheap and doesn't add anything that would change gameplay. It's cheap on the lives (hullo 3 digits life counter) and the new power-up aren't original... Add this to the paid DLC and I feel spoiled, with a game devoid of any Nintendo touch, just with a blank sequel with a pseudo new goal (GOOD LUCK fetching the million coins)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: aetios on January 09, 2015, 08:48:32 AM
I prefer MKDD because I played it the most (gotta love dolphin) and I don't really like the way the wii mario kart plays, the steering seems off and drifting is awkward with the jump. Read: I'm just too used to MKDD's physics.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Duke "Tape" Eiyeron on January 09, 2015, 08:49:56 AM
Yeah, MKDD feels quite arcade, which is quite ironic because MK GP (the arcade game) is sloppier than MK7 and even MK8)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: aetios on January 09, 2015, 08:50:56 AM
And MKDD gives you quite some control during drifts, I like that you can control when you get your mini-boost.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on January 09, 2015, 02:58:17 PM
I should play it more at some point. My main gripe with the Gamecube is the gamepad, but I seem to be one of the very rare people to hate the Gamecube controller. Also, from the MKWii/Wii U remakes of Gamecube tracks that I saw, MKDD courses seems incredibly brutal hard (especially the Donkey Kong tracks) O.O

My least favorite MK game gotta be the GBA one, because when you turn around it's almost like TRON, in the way that you turn instantly. >.<

Post by: aetios on January 14, 2015, 02:06:12 PM
The DK track isn't hard at all. IMO one of the hardest tracks is Dino Dino Land, somehow if I get "out of sync"  with the game, I keep on driving off track and becoming 8th x.x
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on January 14, 2015, 04:10:53 PM
Strange, I always sucked at the DK Mountain track and never finished higher than 6th or so. >.< So many curves. I also had issues with DK Summit in MK Wii. >.< DK Jungle on the 3DS and Wii U wasn't that hard, though.

Wait, what is Call of Prypriat? Is it an horror game like in that one Chernobyl movie? O.O

Also I might get GTA 5 eventually but probably for the Xbox One.

That reminds me, I recently bought "You Have to Win The Game" on Steam. It's a retro style 2D platformer and it's quite fun. :) http://store.steampowered.com/app/286100/

EDIT: Oh yes! Crystal Towers 2 has been greenlighted, finally :D http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92975382 I wonder if it will ever make it to Steam store and if it will get an update?

Earlier I bought Dragon Warrior NES for $0.00 and Atelier Iris 3 PS2 for $24.99. The DW game was boxed but had no instructions. The PS2 game is complete but one of the two instructions manual (the French one) was photocopied.

I already have another copy of Dragon Warrior at home, but it was loose so if both copies are identical I'm gonna swap them (so I can keep my old saves) then trade in the other copy I just got later.

Target Canada will start their Going out of Business sale Thursday, but the real deals are probably gonna be in a few weeks (if there is anything decent left). They just pretty much stocked their shelves with anything they had left in the store backroom so I'm gonna check in case games gets good discounts. I probably won't buy a lot of games, though, since I am saving some money for a TI-84 Plus CE.

EDIT: I forgot that I still had 900 Nintendo coins left so now I used some to buy Earthbound, NES Remix and Golden Sun for the Wii U Virtual Console. Whoever still have coins left should use them ASAP because they will vanish completely after Spring ends.

I never played it sadly because I couldn't find it in stores (IIRC it's very rare and expensive), but I considered making a calc game with 3D ish battles once. I'Ll probably just go with Dragon Warrior style in my next RPG, though (if it's for the 83+ series)

You need to add moar NES, SNES, Nintendo 64 and Gamecube to your collection

I actually recently did a trip (split in half) in 4 local video game stores to see if I can score some good deals. I only got the games mentionned in my previous post, though. Free Game has some decent PSP games, but their current rare titles selection is expensive. Other retro stuff is poor. Microplay's selection was poor for retro games, except the boxed copy of Dragon Warrior, and while they had some cool new PS3 games, I didn't buy them because I prefer buying used games there so I can fill my privilege card (after buying 6 used  games at $15 or higher I get $20 off on the next used game that is $19.99 or higher) and their used games are usually pretty cheap. EB Games selection was expensive, although not bad, while Instant Comptant had a terrible, overpriced selection (seriously, $15 for a Nintendo 64 sports game?)

My next trip will be to La Planque, maybe if I can hang out with juju nearby. Not sure if I want to do a trip there just to go to La Planque, though. Quebec City retro gaming stores are so spread apart compared to my city D: . I'm still keeping somee extra money away for the calculator and perhaps guitar, so video game budget is somewhat limited.

I'm not getting the New 3DS now, because apparently transfering your 3DS data to it is a major PITA, and if I get the New 3DS I'm selling the old one, meaning that I would prefer not losing any data...

Some racing game - Unplayed

WiiU:

Mario Kart 8 - Played
Black Ops 2 - Unplayed

tr1p1ea since you like soccer, regardless of if you get a PS2 again or not you might want to grab a copy of FIFA 14 (or PES2014 if it's available for your console region). In America FIFA 14 was the final PS2 game and only a few copies seems to have been printed (unless they're all located in  brick and mortar stores in Brazil?) since it's already very hard to find. Might be a collectible in a few years :P

By the way do you still play Mario Kart 8? Maybe we should play together at some point :P

Yeah it was. Many 2012-13 360/PS3 hits came out on the Wii U as well, sometimes in enhanced editions or with all DLCs like Mass Effect 3. I never got into Assassin's Creed myself for some reasons, though, same for Mass Effect. I guess they're not japanese enough for my likings in terms of RPG/adventure elements :P

MariaDatBanana? Now, just something wich allows me to track which game I own with some automatically downloaded infos or something like that. In the same manner, I'm trying to provide a fun Haxe API frontend for Datagamer (http://datagamer.fr/) which is a contributive video game database, feel free to support or contribute. here's the Haxe api : link (https://github.com/Eiyeron/ApiDatagamer.hx)

I wonder if the PS3 version is moddable? Because that's what I originally bought since I had doubts that my PC would run it.

I personally started a list of games I own on a website back then but then I stopped because I had to enter every game manually since most were for retro consoles. I probably won't do it for PC games, though, because a lot are free and I don't have many Steam games anyway. I forgot which website it was, though, but it looked different than in your link.

I bet that it would be but people don't (as often) because it's not as hackable as PC. http://psx-scene.com/forums/f289/skyrim-ps3-working-mod-files-103152/ (http://psx-scene.com/forums/f289/skyrim-ps3-working-mod-files-103152/) Here are some.

Thanks for the link. It doesn't look like there are textures mod, though. I guess it's inevitable considering the PS3 is from 2006 and is probably too limited to achieve the graphics from today's PC Skyrim mods (and the high-end computers that can run them).

No thanks. It's most likely gonna be just emulators if things work out well, otherwise it will most likely be used as replacement to my PS Vita for games that support it, since I prefer playing on a big screen. Or both, but I would rather not connect the thing to the Internet if possible, so I won't update to a non-hackable firmware by mistake.

It took two years to ship ? O.O
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 17, 2015, 04:27:49 AM
They didn't start making cartridges and packages until they reached an high enough amount of pre-order, so that the cost per item is cheaper to produce in bulk. Also near the end they ran into issues with their original team for quality control so they switched to another team which added up to delays. Many people canceled their pre-orders as a result and said they would never buy from WM again. Due to the long wait this is why we got some extras in our package (such as that toad keychain thing and two postcards. The good news though is that they probably still have a few copies left as a result, so whoever wanted to buy a copy can probably do so without having to wait years for another print run (if they ever do any more).

Also this 3rd print run supposedly have troubles running on an model 1 Sega Genesis/Mega Drive that has the "LICENSED BY SEGA" splash screen at the beginning, causing the game to not start on 1st power-on. Pressing reset fixes the problem. I am not affected since I got the 2nd model of the Sega Genesis.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 17, 2015, 03:39:32 PM
Indeed. That said, with the many companies being shady and sometimes even scammish, and the fact this is an obscure company not many people know about, people tend to jump to conclusions fast, so it's possible that with the long wait people might have thought they are just in to grab our money and escape with it without giving us anything. I personally felt that this wasn't the case, because they sent the original shipments of Pier Solar in 2010-11 and the work seemed very professional. I think the issue is that it's a very small company and since producing something in small quantity is much more expensive for each item than it is to produce it in large quantities, they had to wait a very long while to get enough pre-orders and also find a reliable factory to produce them. We were actually lucky to get the game for $57 with the shipping.

By the way, since nobody else checked my other thread about the game, WM are also working on other games and have recently published a Sega Genesis horror visual novel. They plan to release a beat-em-up in the future too.

It's nice to see commercial games are still being made for retro consoles.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 19, 2015, 01:58:49 PM
Yes. Especially the SNES and Sega Genesis. I believe some NES games are still being made too and the Atari is the most popular console for new game cartridges. For the SNES I remember they released Nightmare Busters a few years ago but I don't know if they still make copies anymore. IN this case, though, the game was started in 1995 then discontinued for some reasons, and a few years ago a neew company partnered with the original one then released the game on cartridge.

The downside is that due to inflation and the smaller amount of cartridges being produced, new SNES/Genesis games are usually as expensive as they were back in the days, so the high price despite being for a very old console might be a big turnoff for some people.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

Indeed. It's just that today so many kids go batc insane when they see realistic graphics and throw up when they see pixel art, so fewer people will buy 2D games that look old school. IMHO it doesn't matter if the game is fun and enjoyable.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: novenary on March 20, 2015, 07:53:18 AM
They don't understand the real fun. I love 3d games (though I don't really like what the n64 could do, 3d with few polygons looks like c) but 2d games are something else entirely.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 21, 2015, 02:16:16 PM
I don't mind small amounts of polygons, but the N64 graphics were blurry so unlike pixel art they didn't always age well. Starfox, Mario 64 and such games still look kinda cool, tho.

Also I finally played Pier Solar and it's really cool sometimes. It does have the usual quirks seen in indie or freeware games but it still manages to play like typical JRPGs of the 90's.

Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 23, 2015, 09:11:30 PM
Cool :D, to be honest I liked the game but I felt it was better in coop mode. However, as an RPG fan, I love exploring, and everytime I played the game with friends they wanted to rush through the game, so as a result, I kinda lost interest.

There was also the issue about the game getting repetitive over time, where all you did was get a quest, bring back an item, get another quest, bring back another item to another guy and so on.

On my side I just got Ninja Turtles and Airwolf for the NES.

Well, a good input system for a phone is certainly possible, but some games make it so bad it just isn't playable anymore. Like this game i downloaded where
the player would follow your finger. Ended up in the player being under your finder all the time and you weren't able to see what you were doing

On a side note, people who bought Club Nintendo games should download them on their system ASAP and make sure to not break nor format their consoles, because past a certain date you won't be able to download them again.

This is why I rarely buy games digitally and instead buy them in physical copies. If the service ever goes down, then at least I still have my physical copy, plus physical copies can have a collectible value. I didn't mind doing it this time, though, because the games were free. :P

Also, Going out of Business sales rock :P.

Indeed. Sometimes you can only use it on one system so if your system stops working then you lose your stuff. Physical copies will always be the way to go for paid games, IMHO, even if they take more space. Plus in the case of console games, you can trade them in at stores.

Yeah when I use cheats it's only to have stuff that completely alters the gameplay and only use them in single-player games. Sometimes, you almost totally get new games. :P Of course, for old games that run in emulators it's best when made into a ROM hack, though (or preferably a patch)

Fun fact : USB OTG rules. Playing RetroArch with my X360 controller on my phone is fun (yet very messy because the wires)
That's why the PS3 pad is better. It runs on bluetooth. :P

It would in theory but the phone/tablet would have to have a USB port and the drivers for the wireless adapter would have to support android.

Although I wonder how hard it would be to play smartphone/tablet games using a gamepad. You would need to stick your tablet on a wall with ductape or hold both the tablet and gamepad while playing and playing a game using a gamepad one-handed is not so easy :P

That reminds me, a few days ago I got Sunset Overdrive for the Xbox one for $19.49 and LEGO the Movie for PSVita for $9. I might trade Sunset Overdrive for another $40-50 game at another store, though (most likely a Wii U game), unless it's ultra good.

Indeed. This one was somewhat cheap, though, so I didn't mind. I can always resell it for cheap at a game store and it will be like if I paid just to rent the game. :P

Also I just bought another game this morning: Fantasia: Music Elvolved for the Xbone for $5. This was the store's final day and they were closing for good at 12 PM so everything was 90% off. Goodbye Target in Canada I guess.

Wow I just had some nice deal on many Atari 2600 boxed games at Free Game (they are merging with the St-Romuald store so they had a 20% discount on $100 purchases)

CIB:
-Dragon Treasure for $20 (Zellers Atari 2600 game knockoff) - is like $60 CIB on Ebay Canada
-Challenge $20 (another) - Worth $35 just for the cart
-Ghostbusters $15 (just the cart is $10 on Ebay)
-Mario Bros $20 (worth like $85 in that condition)
-Crystal Castles $10

Boxed with no instruction:
-Keystone Kapper $10 ($20 on Ebay)

Cart only
-Swordquest: Earthworld $5

And all of this was before the 20% discount, so I got them for even cheaper in fact.

EDIT: A picture

And Eiyeron most Atari consoles are on Ebay but before buying one make sure it comes with all the cables. Also, the SECAM (France and Russia) Atari consoles have a terrible color palette compared to PAL (rest of Europe) and NTSC (America/Japan).

No problem. Just wanted to let you know. I wonder if PAL ones work in France like newer consoles?

Also, the story behind those two Zellers games (the red boxes) is that in the early 80's, Zellers, which is a Canadian store that used to be similar to Walmart, pirated some Atari 2600 games, changed the names and copyrights then resold them under new packaging with different cartridge labels. That was of course until Atari 2600 told them to stop. So nowadays those cartridges are quite rare and not well known, since they were only sold (illegally) in Canada.

There is a video explaining it, but it's in French:

Cool to hear. I bought it a long while ago during Boxing Day sales for the PS3 but I didn't play much.

The issue with PS3 and XBox One games is that you are hyped about trying your newly purchased game, only to have to wait 2 hours for it to install, then the minute it's done you are busy again.

It's a shame that they did not make FIFA 14 and 15 for the Wii U as well. FIFA 13 Wii U probably didn't sell well so they decided to just make a Wii version that can be played on both consoles, but apparently the Wii U gamepad features were really interesting in FIFA 13. That said, keep your copy of FIFA 15. If it happened to be the last ever Wii soccer game and didn't sell well then maybe it will increase in value in a decade. :P (I'm still curious about FIFA 14 PS2 NTSC value in a few years, seeing as it's even more rare)

Talking about game values, the Wii version of this NIS America title seems like it could be worth a lot in a few years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodea_the_Sky_Soldier (unless the American Wii version gets canceled)

It depends. When FIFA sells poorly on a console, then they just re-release last year's game under a new name, but with updated players and rosters. Otherwise, they release a new game, sometimes using the same engine, but often with many improvements.

And yeah same. The only reason I got FIFA 14 PS2 is because this particular version is an ultra-rare collectible.

The swapper
Shelter
Universe Simulator
Strike suit zero
Mountain
Orborun
Fist of Awesome
Super Hexagon
Skyrim (actually a while ago)
And Besiege again for the DRM-Free

Also nice Eiyeron but I've never heard of those.

What game genres are they (other than Super Hexagon and Skyrim)?

Also Unicorn I need to try LoL at one point. Many Starcraft 2 players switched to it back then. UT2004 for $2.50 seems interesting. I might check that out actually, but I don't play FPSes as much nowadays.

Eiyeron I bought Borderlands around when it came out on the 360 in 2010 or so, but I traded it in after less than a month because I got bored. I don't know if Borderlands 2 and pre-sequel fixes that, but in Borderlands 1, the game went on like this:

Lbl 1
Talk to NPC to get a quest
Go find the item the NPC asked you to bring him back in the said quest
Give the item to the NPC
Goto 1

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

They're all indie I think.
Shelter - badger survival simulator
Mountain - mountain simulator
Strike suit zero - mecha
Universe simulator - physics and stuff
Fist of awesome - 2d bear punching side scroller (?)
Orborun - runner but you can either run or roll, possible problem solving
The swapper - 2d control multiple players at same time problem solver

The second game is more varied and the pre-sequel is shorter and less original. If the first game had a slow rythm, the second is actually funnier to play and better balanced (it'll avoid getting an item at lv 10 and keeping it up to the final boss because it's over OP).  But the main core is there : RPG quest/sidequest system.

The level requirement for items in those RPGs is another thing I don't like from western RPGs. I prefer the old JRPG ways of allowing excalibur to be equipped to a LV 1 or 99 character as you see fit, which gave more freedom to the player about the style of play he wanted to use, plus most powerful weapons could only be obtained late in the game anyway. Sometimes, higher level classes were required to equip some higher power weapons, but at least you didn't end up with 10 swords in your inventory that you cannot use until 20 hours later in the game and ending up having to sell them for $1 and never able to get them back afterward.

Ok so a little roundup of my recent game purchases:

-Cross Edge for PS3 (to my surprise, the PS3 had JRPGs in 2008! Yes, with the old PS3 logo that uses the fonts from Spider-Man movies)
-Cobra Command for NES (in box, but no manual nor plastic sleeve)
-Rune Factory PS3
-Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for Game Cube. To my surprise, it was only $30. I guess Gamecube games dropped in price recently because they also had Tales of Symphonia for the same price and both those games used to sell for $50 minimum and that was when the Canadian dollar was worth $0.95 USD.

Are the sales on-par with rebates we saw back in 2011 or so? I remember that one year, almost everything more than 1 year old was $3-5 and most recent games $10-20.

Child of Light for $9 seems interesting, though. I wanted that game for a while.

I would love to play multiplayer KSP but it would get sooooo complicated I think. Having more than 3 ships flying at the same time would be torturous on the computers.

Lol, locational biases. I'm pretty sure that if a game were developed where I live I would like it more than one that wasn't.

Also 15 mins until portal 2 finished installing.

That's a mod though? I'm sure that it's possible but it would just require really good computers otherwise position calculations would lag behind causing players to 'jump' unless they added location 'tweening' which would make the other computers simulate calculations.

It's about a group of AI rectangles escaping. It's a platformer game with some puzzle elements, and has a good story.

It's incredible how cheap Japanese SNES games can be by the way. Over here, some US games that are $150 are like $30 in Japanese. Many retro gamers here just break the pins inside their North American SNES consoles to allow Super Famicom carts to fit then buy Japanese versions of games like Mega Man (Rockman) to save money while still being able to understand the game overall. We were lucky over here since Japanese games are also NTSC and thus, works on our systems.

Mega Man X3 is like $245 just for the cartridge, yet Rockman X3 is $45. To be honest, though, I try whenever possible to stick with North American versions to keep my collection consistent.

IMO the Japanese versions are only worth something if you know what they are saying, but I don't collect so I wouldn't know.

Also I recently got orbital gear which is pretty nice from what I've seen so far so hopefully I'll get some playing time in the coming weeks :).

Well the thing is that with certain games, you don't necessarily need to know what they say if you already know the story and that the story is explained at the start. Example: Super Mario World and Super Metroid. Most platformers or fighting games barely have any in-game text, so it doesn't matter much if they are in Japanese or English.

Also, I just got Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan and Etrian Odyssey: Untold for the 3DS. THey used to be $40 used, but I got them for $25 and $30 each. I was trying to find a copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising but stores didn't have it in stock and it's like $80 New on Ebay now >.<

I heard that Bioshock 2 and Infinite didn't sell well (and over here, EB Games had an entire rack of of Bioshock 2 for the Xbox 360 a few years ago) but some people say they are good. I guess it depends. Maybe you really have to be into FPSes in order to like them?

Wow, Zelda in box? O.O Also Kirby Adventure is one of my favorite NES game. :D Nice collection so far.

EDIT: Also I just noticed that Cybernator for the SNES got a bit pricey recently. I got it for $8 a few years ago and now it's worth $30. Probably because its sequel, called Metal Warriors, is now over $200 so people will try to purchase the prequel to one of the most expensive SNES game.

Yeah I always wondered about Bioshock series. Some people love it but others didn't like it and Bioshock 2 was so overproduced that the local EB Games store had an entire rack full of unsold copies of the game a few years ago for $5 each.

EDIT: Ok so I had some luck there: I just found a copy of Battletoads in Battlemaniacs for $30 O.O . I also picked Forza Motorsport for the original Xbox for $4. That game is awesome but hard. The graphics almost looks on-par with some early Xbox 360 games.

Also, it didn't take long for FIFA 14 NTSC PS2 to increase in price. There's a factory-sealed copy going for almost $80 on Amazon now O.O http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00LH20HEO/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

One game I recommend buying is Yoshi's Wooly World. The problem with Kirby Epic Yarn is that it's not a real Kirby game at all, not even close in fact, because it used to be a different game until Nintendo decided to slap Kirby name on it to make extra money. Yoshi's Wooly World, on the other hand, is an actual Yoshi game, so you can swallow enemies, make balls/eggs, shoot them and everything you could already do in Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story, plus some Kirby Epic Yarn features.

I can't buy it yet but I might later.

As for Just Dance 2016, changes of plans, because it seems like the Last Wii game will be Rodea the Sky Soldier, plus two Just Dance games actually came out simultaneously anyway.

Add A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D Land to that collection. They are in digital format (due to promotions like "buy that game and get one for free", otherwise I'd have them in cartridge format).

And sorry for the bad photo quality, I can't upload the 5MB picture here so I downscaled it and saved it in 8bit :P

Wow nice, does it have any big classics?

I personally got El Shaddai for the PS3 earlier. It had been $50 (or $30) for yeears at EB Games and now it was $20. Sadly it looks like they won't have a big Black Friday sale on older games so I doubt I'll see any other sale, but it looks like they'll have a sale on neewer games like GTAV Xbox One and some consoles. NHL 16 will also be discounted heavily so I'll see if I have enough money to buy more games. I'm still looking for Halo V at one point.

Online as in web browser or online as in servers? :P
But i think servers for most valve games are decentralised and people can set private serverd up too, so there will probably always be a few enthousiast having a server

I just got Halo 5 for $37.50 and Yoshi Wooly World (much better than Kirby Epic Yarn) for $35. Every game and accessories were 50% off at Archambault and consoles were 30% off *.*

The only downside is that all video game sales are final. I also lacked the money for a New Nintendo 3DS XL (they still had one left)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

I got Smash Bros 4 mid November(I think) and I downloaded Fire Emblem Awakening on the eShop(and some other indie games).
The New 3ds is totally worth it. It runs faster, has more buttons and the 3D is much more forgiving. I would recommend getting the XL so you don't have to have the screen right on your face.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 26, 2015, 11:43:25 PM
I almost did get SSB4 earlier, but the store only had the 3DS version, and I prefered to wait until I get the money to get the Wii U version. I also saw Etrian Odyssey 2 but I passed on it since it seemed more like a tactical game. As for the New 3DS I might eventually get it. My only gripe is that there is only 1 game for it (Xenoblade Chronicles), but I might eventually try to trade in my 3DS to get the new one, since it's backwards compatible with old games.

Another game I saw was Star Wars Battlefront, but with Halo 5 and Yoshi I didn't buy it. If I didn't find those two games, I would probably have gone with Star Wars Battlefront, because at $40 it's a good deal.

On a side note, what I like about the Wii U gamepad is that I don't need to be in front of the TV to play the console. I can sit in front of the computer or lie in the bed with it, just as long as I'm not too far from the console. It doesn't work with every game because some requires using both the TV and the gamepad, but for games like Mario Maker it's very effective.

Look at what I found at EB Games (Gamestop) today *.*:

-Kirby: Return to Dream Land (Wii)  (http://img.codewalr.us/Kirbii-1.gif)
-Kirby Collection (Wii, but it doesn't have the cardboard box). Since I only have two of the games on it (Kirby Adventure and Kirby Superstar) it's a nice addition to my library  (http://img.codewalr.us/Kirbii-1.gif)
-Kid Icarus Uprising (3DS)

I wanted Bayonetta 2 at first, but I just kept running into those gems so I said screw Bayonetta 2 :P

Yeah they work pretty well but they have no rumble. I've started researching a way to modify regular controllers to be wireless for this exact reason.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on January 06, 2016, 08:59:02 PM
Oh I didn't know that. Also I didn't know the regular gamepads had rumble support. I thought it was an attachment sold separately like on the Nintendo 64.

Also didn't you hate back when every console peripheral was sold separately? >.< We bought a $60 game (or higher), only to end up having to buy a memory card as well, a rumble pack, a memory expansion pak, etc. On top of that, back then most CRT TVs had just one input (the RF jack) and many consoles only came with AV cables, so you had to buy a special adapter for every console. On the other hand, memory cards were nice since you didn't need to carry all your cartridges or discs with you at friends' homes.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: novenary on January 06, 2016, 09:02:45 PM
Our CRT was pretty high end back then, it had multiple input including two or three RGB scart inputs so that was pretty nice. I played the GC with that as a kid. There aren't many games that require additional accessories on the GC, they all came with a memory card too though you had to buy a larger one if you wanted to store more saves.

I think you can get 720p on a CRT, maybe even 1080i, but I'm not sure about that. It depends on the cable you use. With a composite, s-video or SCART cable you're limited to 480/576i, but component can go up to 1080i and VGA even higher. Since CRTs don't have physical pixels, if the beam supports high frequency timings it should work but I've never seen that besides PC monitors (which go up to 1280x1024 I think).

Edit: well damn. http://www.ripten.com/2011/09/22/did-you-know-john-carmack-coded-quake-on-a-28-1080p-hd-monitor-in-1995/

Imagine a $10,000 gaming rig today...

IIRC, the highest resolution CRT is 1080i. But they must have been short-lived

And wow at the $10000 monitor O.O. When I was kid, a good rig was like $5000.

So Nintendo decided to re-release some titles as Nintendo Select (formerly Million Seller and Player's Choice) titles for the Wii, Wii U and 3DS: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/02/16/nintendo-selects-north-america/

Interesting to note is that Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Ocarina of Time and the Mario All-Stars collection are included in this. Those games were very expensive, so for $19.99 each (or $29.99 in Canada) this is a good deal, since it's less than half the original prices in some cases.

What shocked me, though, is that they are still producing Wii games. I thought the Wii was discontinued and that the last game ever for it would be Monster High or Rodea the Sky Soldier. On top of that, the Mario All Stars collection was meant as a limited edition item, yet they are re-releasing it.

So I just got Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga 2 (PS2), Mortal Kombat 4 (N64) and Ikari Warriors (NES) for $15 each. Not sure why the PS2 game was listed as used, since it was in what seemed to be an original shrinkwrap, but I guess maybe it was opened at some point. The store had restocked on retro games, but they only have two SNES games and most NES games are still sports games. I need to go to the two retro game stores in Quebec City with @Juju at some point (there are also two pawn shops but they have a poor selection overall)

Bump: I finally got Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Wii U and Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii. Not sure if I'll open the latter, though, since I mostly bought it as collectible and I already have it on the SNES. :P

Omg quintuple post O.O

So I basically got Zelda Triforce Heroes for $15 yesterday, along with WWE 2K15 for Xbox One and Legend of Kay Anniversary for Wii U. The wrestling game was $12.50 and the other game $8 so it wasn't too bad. For some reasons, though, the Wii U game was opened. <_<

That reminds me, does anyone here have Triforce Heroes? I heard it was much better in 3 player mode, but it apparently plays in single player. I bought it mainly because it was 70% off so the trade-in value is almost the same as what I bought the game for, meaning if I don't like the game then it's pretty much like a rental :P

So I was bored and I thought I would check out how many physical games there are in my collection so far, and if I exclude my bro's GBA games that are hidden somewhere and possibly some 3DS games he put elsewhere, this is what I got it seems:

NES 63
Super Nintendo 83
Nintendo 64 28
GameCube 16
Wii 28
Wii U 15
Game Boy 3
Game Boy Color 1
Game Boy Advance 7
Nintendo DS 34
Nintendo 3DS 18
Sega Master System 4
Sega Genesis 32
Sega Saturn 1
Sega Dreamcast 2
Sega Game Gear 2
Playstation 1 25
Playstation 2 53
Playstation 3 38
Playstation 4 1
PSP 10
PSVita 9
Xbox 6
Xbox 360 23
Xbox One 8
Atari 2600 49
Atari Lynx 2

That's over 600 games O.O, and for Playstation consoles, most of my games are JRPGs.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on April 14, 2016, 04:02:34 AM
Yeah I didn't realize I had that many. I thought I had more like 200-250, since I thought I mostly had older games. I guess it's because I have many DS/3DS/Wii games compared to just a few years ago. That said, at one point I might re-sell some of the games I like less, once I have beaten them, and keep my favorites. I'm most likely keeping most Wii U and 3DS games. Two summers ago I went through my collection and played many games I bought, only to find that some of them really sucked or bored me. Thankfully, there are many games also that I bought for $5-10, especially NES games, so they're pretty much like if I rented them.

Ok so this is one of the rare times where I buy digital games, but this time it was worth it: I just got Retro City Rampage DX, Shantae and the Pirate Curse and Affordable Space Adventures for the 3DS and Wii U from the Humble Bundle. I didn't know they also did Humble Bundles on Nintendo consoles. I didn't get the unlockable games, though, because I wasn't that interested by them.

I also bought Double Dragon II for the NES yesterday.

So yeah I finally snatched a copy of Xenoblade Chronicles for the Wii. The only problem is that it was the same price as the Wii U sequel >.< (it was brand new) since it's much more rare. So now I got all three Operation Rainfall Wii RPGs.

Also @JWinslow23 I got Spot: The Video game for the NES. I didn't know there was a NES version O.O

Yeah I thought it was a PC game or some game for vintage computers like the MSX, Amiga and Commodore. I didn't know it was for the NES since I never saw a copy of it anywhere before, which is weird considering it's not that rare. I'm happy I got a copy, though :)

As for your game being based on it I was surprised when I saw the NES animations because I didn't know the NES hardware was powerful enough to achieve sprite animations this elaborate.

It's powerful enough for Recca: Summer Carnival '92. At this point, I'm not really surprised ;)

On a somewhat unrelated note, you heard of Stay Frosty for the 2600? And what's the best NES basketball game? Tecmo NBA Basketball looks awesome, but I myself find it confusing.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on May 23, 2016, 02:43:23 AM
Wow I just looked up that game and darn, the Famicom had blast processing 6 years before Sega did :P

And yes I remember Stay Frosty. I think there was a sequel, right? I was tempted to buy it at one point but it was out of my game collecting budget.

Also I don't like basketball. I prefer hockey, baseball and wrestling for the most part, although I don't mind soccer and football sometimes. So I can't help.

By the way, did you know that Tecmo did a JRPG back in the 90's? O.O I know they now do some for new consoles, but back then that was not common. It was called Tecmo Secret of the Stars: A Fantasy, and it wasn't super good lol.

Hm, just tried Double Dribble. I'm bad at it, but aside from the terrible voice samples :P , it's a good one. Especially since I found out an exploit that allows three-pointers to automatically go in :P

Lol, I personally wouldn't call a game that good if to be good you have to rely on an exploit. But again it depends. If the game is bad but a glitch/exploit actually improves it then maybe it's good in some ways. :P

Do you like JRPGs? I would suggest some of the 3D FInal Fantasy and Ys games. Don't buy Final Fantasy VI on Steam, though, nor any HD remaster elsewhere. The character sprites are horrible in the HD version.

By the way, is it me or the Steam Summer Sales aren't as great as they once were? I just checked the front page and most deals seemed like regular store deals to me. Yet, a few years ago, I remember when almost the entire top section of that page was just games that were 75-95% off and everything was under $10 including big franchises. I remember buying Sonic Generations, Duke Nukem Forever and many others for $3.50 there.

Also EB Games had a lot of cheap JRPGs for the PSVita the other day, but since I'm saving up for other things as well as SO5, I only bought Demon Gaze.

So I finally got Star Ocean V for PS4. That might be my last game purchase in a while since it was expensive. The only thing I wonder is: Since I don't want to pay for a PS Plus subscription due to never playing online on PS consoles (I only do so on Xbox and I only have two PS4 games anyway), will I still be able to download and buy DLC's from the online store? My game copy came with some free DLC so I was curious.

Also it looks like it might be time to resell my factory-sealed collector edition of Starcraft II: HotS, because the price went way up since Legacy of the Void release.

So I just got a copy of Halo 4 limited edition for the Xbox 360. While I already had a regular edition copy from years ago, the limited edition was factory sealed and $25 at Walmart. The store is relocating in the shopping mall nearby thursday so almost all shelves were cleared out, but two copies of the game were sitting in the liquidation center and the other two copies were $50 for some reasons. The entire electronics department was closed from public.

Got some Gamecube games for a pretty good deal !

I got Fire Emblem : Path of Radiance for 15€, even though it's more than 70€ online...
Baten Kaitos is not that rare on the other hand but i got it for 15€ too so it's not too bad.
Same price for Panzer Dragoon Saga, i wanted that game for a long time. (just like Fire Emblem)

Where i got them ?
At a video game shop where i live.
This guy seriously had some gems, like Eternal Darkness, Pokemon XD among others...
Sadly, when i wanted to buy Pokemon XD, he was not fooled and asked me 25€...
Which is still a pretty good price considering how much it goes for these days.

I may go back again to buy Eternal Darkness, i'm sure he will sell it to me for 15€.

EDIT: I honestly thought he had the Suidoken games... Sadly, he did not. :p

Wow, congratulations on Fire Emblem! O.O I checked at the store in Quebec City the other day and it was $110 CAD. The Wii FE game is the same price and the original DS game is slowly getting there.

I also didn't know there was a Panzer Dragoon game on anything else than the Sega Saturn. As for Baten Kaitos I often see it over $50, so it's a very nice find too. My bro got a copy over a decade ago. And yes, Pokémon XD is very expensive and I bet most Pokémon games will go even higher in prices now with the Pokémon Go craze.

On a side note, I was considering getting rid of my PSVita and PSP in the future. I will keep the games, but I got tired of constantly monitoring the console battery levels every week to ensure they won't reach 0% (I often forget). I'm 100% sure my 2nd PSP battery has now gone bad, since those old batteries often expand when recharged after being at 0% for months. I don't know if the PSVita has the same problem, but I think both consoles would be better off under the hands of people that will use them more regularly. I will keep the 3DS of course, because it keeps its charge intact even if unused for 2 years. Besides, I bought a Sega Saturn game once, despite not having the console. :P

Thanks DJ ! Yeah, it was almost unbelievable to see it here for almost nothing.
It however makes me sad how expensive FE games got...
Thank you Joueur du Grenier and AVGN... NOT
110$ is just a crazy price for a game, no matter how you love the game.
My next goal is to get the Wii sequel for cheap, i badly want to f*** Micaiah !

QuoteMy bro got a copy over a decade ago.
Your brother must have gotten it for cheap because in the states, it is very cheap unlike the PAL version.
Something that always cracks me up about the Baiten Kaitos's cover is how it looks like a Harry Potter cover.
Oh, and it comes with 2 CDs, i didn't know that.

QuoteAnd yes, Pokémon XD is very expensive and I bet most Pokémon games will go even higher in prices now with the Pokémon Go craze.
This makes me regret selling my copy of Pokémon XD i bought back in the day when it was released.
It received rave reviews at the time but i personally loved it, even though it is very linear.
I also gave it the title for Most Edgy Pokémon game. (followed up by that Pokemon ranger game where everyone dies on the ship)

Yeah, i own a PSP myself and it does not last long, sadly.
Before you sell your PSP, it might be a good idea to backup your PSP games with a custom firmware on your PSP.
That way, you can keep copies your game and still play them on your computer thanks to PPSSPP.
I must say that i enjoyed games like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, Valkyria Chronicles 2, that Final Fantasy 2 remake i bought in Quebec...

QuoteBesides, I bought a Sega Saturn game once, despite not having the console
And i bought Panzer Dragoon Saga, even though my 360 is broken and the PAL copy is known to crash at level 6 on the 360. :p

Apparently in North America it's because at first, FE was very unpopular, but when the 3DS games came out, FE popularity skyrocketed and then people went to buy the older games. And FE games used to be in small print runs on home consoles.

By the way, how much does Xenoblade for the Wii cost in Europe @gameblabla ? I heard it was much cheaper than in North America, because in NA they initially refused to release it and we finally got a limited run in 2012, thanks to the Operation Rainfall campaign. Xenoblade used to cost $150 on Ebay used, although the prices went down to around the same price of a new release nowadays.

As for Baten Kaitos I never saw a copy under $50 in Canada in the last 5 years. I think my bro got it for $30, though.

Regarding Pokémon XD, I think one reason why it costs more than other Pokémon games overall is because it's one of the only console Pokémon game that's an actual RPG rather than an arena tournament/battle game. So if someone wants a Pokémon RPG that is not on a pocket handheld then they only have two options. But I bet it will cost $100 in the future. I didn't buy it in the past because I didn't have the money.

Also I didn't know you ever went to Quebec O.O. If you ever want to meet up IRL (although I think you want to remain anonymous, seeing how you use Tor?) let me know (I just saw PatrickD IRL last weekend). :3=

ah, it does look like it is that but this still does not explain the European prices...

I was a fire emblem fan before it became cool and now we are paying the price. (literally)

Xenoblade, along with Pandora's Tower and the Last Story, used to go for around 20€.
A year after however, the prices severely increased due to Operation Rainfall, which brought more attention to the games.
The PAL version is cheaper than the American version though. (around 50€)

Guys, if you want to make tons of money on a game, buy Xenoblade Chronicles now !
It was released in very limited quantites and i suspect it will be worth hundreds of dollars in years to come.

QuoteAs for Baten Kaitos I never saw a copy under $50 in Canada in the last 5 years. I think my bro got it for $30, though.
There's actually two Baten Kaitos games : Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (the one i got) and Baten Kaitos Origins.
If your brother got Baten Kaitos Origins, he's one lucky bastard because it is even more expensive than Eternal Wings.
(not to mention, never released in Europe...)

Typically, GCN and Wii JRPGs were released in larger print runs in Europe than North America. For some reasons it seems Nintendo didn't like North American JRPG fans after they ended their affiliation with Square and Enix by making the N64 cartridge-based instead of CD-based.

Also I didn't notice this was a different Baten Kaitos game lol. Actually it's Origins that my bro has.

As for Xenoblade, it probably depends I guess. There are many rare PS2 JRPGs that are still under $20 nowadays and actually going down in price unless it's the .Hack series. But again, maybe the PS2 is just not a console that attracts collectors.

As for Quebec, I hope you change your mind, but I can understand that traveling can be difficult (money and time-wise, which is why I never traveled further than Ottawa and only went to Montreal twice) and also life in North America is very different than Europe and can be hard to get used to, especially in USA.

Nice price you got. :O

Also I wanted to make a list of my games at some point but I gave up because there are too many and they're in a different room than this PC.

Ah, Kirby Dream Land !
Really short but what a great game.
Cant really speak for Air Sea Battle though, what's your reason for getting it ?

As for myself, i got Paper Mario (without the manual) for 15€.
I also got Viewtiful Joe for free but unfortunely, it has some really deep scratches.
That makes me wish i had an RTI to repair it or something.

I got Air Sea Battle because it was only $5 and from videos I saw it didn't seem bad for an Atari game.

And nice find and at low price too. I got my copy of Paper Mario (just the cartridge) for $35 CAD a few years ago and it was only because when the previous customer traded in his copy, it was in terrible condition (even inside the cartridge). As a result, the trade-in value was extremely low and when the shop manager resold it to me after cleaning it, he charged me $35 instead of $60 or so.

You can sell that game for like a hundred bucks !
Can't wait for September (School) and March 2017 (NX's release date) to get some interesting games.

Btw DJ, i got Paper Mario and the Thousand-Year Door, not Paper Mario 64.

Yeah I was shocked when I saw it in Wii games bin. When I went to La Planque they had it for $70 and on Ebay the lowest I saw was $40 excluding shipping. I guess they didn't realize that unlike the PS3 One Piece games, this one was rare.

On the other hand, that EB Game store was charging $90 for Persona Q for the 3DS, even though other EB Game stores charges half that amount. Maybe they swapped the stickers by accident, who knows? :P

And I see about paper Mario. I thought you got the N64 version.

Back to One Piece unlimited Adventure, it looks fun, from what I saw in the manual, although I suck at remembering combos, so I might have an hard time getting the hang out of them if the game requires using them. Adventure and RPG games tend to give more room about combos and hard-to-perform moves, by allowing the player to beat the entire game by only attacking most of the time, but some are unforgiving. In Killer Instinct arcade, I could often perform special moves easily and spam them, but in Mortal Kombat II I rarely ever could.

And another example are games where to perform a double or triple hit, you must press a button at a specific time. Mario RPG, Paper Mario 64 and Legend of Dragoon are examples. Mario games usually gives a lot of room for error, but Legend of Dragoon pretty much required pressing the button at one specific frame. One frame too late or early and it was fail. I once made a calculator RPG which use such thing: Mana Force 2. It gave enough room for error but not as much as Mario RPG.

For me, i think that even the RPG Mario games don't give a lot of room for error, especially for counters.
I'm personally not a fan for such system : i would rather play A-RPGs or have something entirely different rather than something
like Paper Mario that requires some timing.
I find it really annoying the fact i'm basically playing a rhythm game during the battles.
That does not mean Paper Mario games are bad games or anything but i'm a slow guy with no reflexes.

Also, just wondering, did you cracked your Wii with LetterBomb or something ?
I would definitively recommend you do so.
The reason why is because it will allow to dump your own games with CleanDisk/USB Loader GX and then play them from a USB stick
or a hard drive with USB Loader GX.
This avoid scratching the disc and keep it intact as much as possible.
But it's your call.
(Plus, it will allow to play the upcoming Walrus RPG on your Wii)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on August 09, 2016, 04:11:32 AM
Yeah I agree. Requiring doing combos is kinda cheap when the game isn't a rhythm game, especially if you need the timing to be nearly perfect. Some people like RPGs for not requiring fast reflexes.

And nope I didn't crack my Wii yet (it's not mine anyway. I just own the Wii U). I would definitively like to play my games or save my progress on an USB stick. Also I would like to play Mario Kart Wii custom tracks at some point. Apparently it seemed very tedious to hack a Wii, though.

Guys, Zelda Windwaker HD is now $20, as a Nintendo select. It might be worth grabbing a copy. Hopefully if you're lucky your store could have marked down old copies as well. Not sure which will be more valuable in the future. But $20 is a bargain considering how much the original Gamecube version costs.

They're also gonna release a Mario-themed New 3DS for $150 that includes Super Mario 3D Land, but it's not the XL version.

I bought Akai Katana for the Xbox 360, as well as a Playstation TV.
Ys VIII's demo on my PSTV was pretty enjoyable but i'm still undecided if i should buy the Jap version or wait for a translation.

I need to repair my 360 (it broke yet again) so i can play my games on it.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

The 360 had by far the highest failure rate for any console system, with maybe only the Atari Jaguar CD add-on as exception. I went througth twoo of them myself and gave up on the Xbox 360.

On a side note, is Borderlands Pre-Sequel for the PC any good and is it as repetitive as the first game? Because it's only $8 at Walmart O.O

Beast's theme on the Sega Genesis sounds pretty good, plus it has more characters.
If you can though, run the game at 50hz : you will suffer from less input lag.
(the game's input code seems sluggish and can't cope at higher speeds like 60hz)

Other than that, it's pretty bad but not the worst game. (the SNES port on the other hand...)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on September 24, 2016, 05:10:27 AM
Ah I swear I heard something about the game having better controls in 50 Hz mode. I can't play it in that mode, though. As for the game, is it true that it's overly easy and that the Genesis version is the best one with better controls and more characters, but has horrible music for the most part?

Also the store had 6 sealed copies of the game. O.O No wonder why I couldn't find any on Ebay for the Genesis :P (probably got them in big lots, which is often cheaper, like those people that sells boxes of 6 copies of F-Zero SNES factory sealed or even Custer's Revenge). Lots of unsold games buried inside warehouses tend to make it to Ebay nowadays.

https://www.laplanquejeuxvideo.net/1001357-shaqfugenesis?search=shaq%20fu (that's the store I bought it from, by the way, but I went to the store directly rather than online)

The game isn't too difficult in Normal mode, i personally have beat it. (except maybe the last fight)
As for the music, it's not much better than the SNES because the SNES port has horrible composition, take a look (from the LJN defender guy) :

Lol at the music. That said, at least it's not as bad as CrazyBus title screen theme. :P

As for the $800 game link It's gone, sadly. I actually saw the $800 game at the store first. I am surprised it was gone so fast, but again they sold two CIB copies of Earthbound for $400 and $500 (one didn't have the white tray inside the box) a few years ago in less than a few minutes after they got put on sale. That said, CIB Earthbound was worth $650 at the time.

Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

The neighborhood the store is located in is a former rundown hood that got gentrified into a technology hub where many geeks work, live and hang out. They're even opening two e-sports bar next month and a 80's arcade bar is located near the video game store, along with a japanese culture restaurant/store. Inevitably, a lot of the game collectors are probably visiting the retro gaming store regularly. And yeah it's possible that it was Magical Chase.

I have ordered Mystery Chronicle One Way Heroics for the Vita the minute it was made available.
I have missed the first batch and i later learned it was sold out in less than 5 minutes.

More than 75% copies were sold in 15 minutes and i bet it will run out in 5 minutes as of my writing...

$50 in Canadian dollar, which means $37 USD and 30 euros. The poster is torn by 1 inch on one side but everything else is in perfect condition and includes both the steel case and plastic sleeve.
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!

Damn, that's a pretty good price for MPT.
If i knew it was going to be this rare when it was out, i would have bought it.

I finally received my physical copy of Mystery Chronicles One Way Heroics for PSVita/TV !
It also came with a "Limited Run" sticker and some kind of a poster card.

There's no manual inside, perhaps that's why it's so cheap.

Anyway, i played for like an hour and i don't regret my purchase.
It's actually very similar to One Way Heroics but it has somewhat better graphics, better music, some more extras and it feels more professional overall...
But other than that, it's nearly identical to One Way Heroics gameplay-wise.

It's voiced too ! But the english voices are a mixed-bag...
Some of them are so bad, you might think you are playing Wolfenstein 3D instead.
(The "YOU !" by the guards when you are spotted is gold, seriously)

Overall, it's a game i would recommend.
It's also available on PC but i heard that port has several issues... It's kind of a half-assed port.

They plan on releasing next a physical version of SkullGirls for Sony platforms. Just saying

QuoteOne thing I noticed, though, is that their games don't have any ESRB or PEGI rating. I guess those games are unlicensed, right?
That's because it is actually a retailer requirement, there's no law in the US requiring a ESRB rating on a game.
So in theory, it might be possible to release an AO-only game through Limited Run games.
(tho for consoles games that might be tricky as Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony don't allow AO rated games, requiring the developer
to only release it in europe)

Question: What's the difference between the two following consoles:

$210 New Nintendo 3DS XL
$140 New Nintendo 3DS XL Mario Black Edition

Why is the special Mario black edition so much cheaper than the other New 3DS XL? At such low price, I was tempted to get it and trade in my original 3DS, but considering it's a limited edition, the fact it's so much cheaper makes me worry that there might be a catch. For example, the Wii Mini lacks online capabilities.

it should actually jusst be the stupid pic on the case... despite that both hardware and software should be equal, but that price really seems odd...
Also I can't find any special reviews or pots about the differences (which again makes me think they should be the same). :)

(according to the site)
Title: Re: Post your game purchases and collection!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 10, 2016, 06:29:35 AM
Yeah I just checked again on Bestbuy Website and it's not the XL. However, the regular 3DS that comes with Mario 3D Land and some faceplates is like $70 more expensive. I think the local store might have even mislabeled the Mario 3DS as an XL. Anyway, considering the game itself is $40 and the Mario edition 3DS is $140, if you don't care about the special faceplates then you're better off with the Mario edition.

Also, at Best Buy, the $210 New 3DS had the same back cover info and did not include the AC Adapter either. It was literally the same box as the Mario one, but with the different front cover for regular New 3DS and did not include faceplates. Weird pricing, still.

Also Best Buy in Canada is notorious for doing things such as charging $30-40 for a brand new game, yet charge $70 for the used copy, even when there's no sale.

Apparently it's not as bad as many people claim. The issue with Battleborn is that it came out just 1 week before Overwatch and its sales and userbase plummeted to almost nothing just 1 week after launch as a result. Also, some people thinks that this game is a mockbuster of Overwatch like some of those low-budget sci-fi movies that are blatant rip-offs of big hollywood productions (eg Transmorphers vs Transformers: Legend of the Fallen or Atlantic Rim vs Pacific Rim).

As a game, though, a bunch of people like it. I need to find the sales data for PS4 copies before opening mine, though, because if the sales on PS4 were much worse than PC then maybe I'm better off keeping it sealed. :P

I finally used my Microplay power-play cards to buy a game with $20 off. I only needed to buy one more $15 game to get the rebate so I got The Nightmare of Druaga: Fushigino Dungeon for the Playstation 2 and Captain Toad for the Wii U. I also got a second copy of Ever Grace for the PS2 last week because my other copy had no box art and the second copy was not only $10 but also CIB.

Now I know what that beast pic from earlier comees from. Altered Beast was fun but I only tried the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis version on my Xbox 360 Genesis collection. Nice collection of Sega Master System games so far. I wish Asterix games came out outside Europe, but sadly I think if they came out in North America they would have only sold them in Quebec, which only had 7 million people at the time, because in North America, nobody outside of Quebec and other French-speaking areas of Canada knew who Asterix was, so they probably didn't bother with a NTSC release.

you could buy a PAL master system and a PAL to HDMI tuner

I would also need to buy some adapter because we use 120 volts power sockets here rather than 220. Generally we don't have many issues using Japanese consoles and we can even play Super Famicom games on our AMerican SNES consoles if we break the plastic things inside the cartridge slot, but it depends. Also I bet that ordering PAL games must be expensive due to exchange rate >.< (Japanese SNES games are so cheap, though. Some $200 USD SNES games can be easily purchased for $30 in Japanese edition.)

I am unsure but it looks like Blizzard decided to give me a digital copy of Overwatch for PC for free. Just got a (legit) e-mail from them telling me my account was selected to be given a copy of the game. I don't know if this is temporary like during the free weekend or if it's the full game, but if that's the case then it's quite cool :D

The downside, though, is that I am no longer able to access my battle.net account from their website. It says my password is incorrect, even when entering the right password. I reseted it and I still get the same error. I can login fine from the Battle.net launcher, though, so it must be their site that is completely broken.

Over a year later, these are the games that I got:
-Super Smash Bros for the 3DS
-Animal Crossing: New Leaf
-Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
-Pokemon Sun
-Fire Emblem Awakening
-Terraria
-Stardew Valley
-Left 4 Dead 2
-Factorio

Maybe I should take a picture with my whole game collection...

Awesome @p2 . Now you got your Gamecube itself too, right?

By the way here are my "purchases" of the night, which used my in-store credits (which apparently did not include taxes?):

-Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)
-Rodea the Sky Soldier (Wii and Wii U)
-Pinball (Zellers pirate Atari 2600 cart)
-Venture (Atari 2600)

Both Atari games were CIB and the two Wii U games brand new.

EDIT: Also I dunno but I think when you buy a game with trade-in credits you don't pay any taxes (at least, in my area), and I read on various forums that this happened to some people who bought games at a different store (EB Games)

So you finally got it ? Cool !
Do a me favor though and NEVER play the Wii U version and go straight to the Wii version.
The WiI U version manages to look worse, with textures smaller than the Wii version based on the 3DS port, and with abyssal controls according to some (all) reviews.
The Wii version has okay controls to can get a while to get used to but other than that, it's a pretty cool game.
I especially like the final boss with tentacles. (you don't know how much i loooove tentacles)

Yeah, I was surprised because Rodea was sealed and only $30. Maybe it's not as rare as it seems or the demand is just too low for it. In any case I was sure that once the version with both discs got discontinued that the price would go up like what happened with Bayonetta 2

I heard it depends of which state/province you live in. In any case, if the store has to report profits they made to the government for tax stuff, then a trade-in means that either money was lost or nothing at all was lost (depending of if credits or real money was given back to the customer), and when the customer buys a new game with credits then the transaction doesn't involve any real money.

So I guess it might make sense that they didn't charge taxes (even though it's kinda using a loophole).

Same, it's quite uncommon and despite this, day one copies are sellng for a reasonable price, although they are priced much higher than the 3DS and standalone Wii U ports. (both sells for less than 20$, if not less...)
In twenty years though, it will surely increase in value.

You still cheated though. That money could have gone towards weapons being sent to Arabia Saudia, how dare you.

It depends I guess. The PS2 has many rare games that came out 10-15 years ago, yet only a dozen is worth anything decent. Even factory-sealed copies of Persona 4 still go for $10.

New game purchases (using my in-store credits again, so I saved 15% due to no taxes :D):

-Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U

I played Zelda Wii U a bit already because I absolutely wanted to. :P I still planned to get the Switch version but I knew it would take weeks before I got the console. In any case, I found the experience better on the Switch so far because the joycon+console are less bulky vertically than the Wii U gamepad. The only issue I think is that two of the shoulder buttons are very sensitive so you gotta be careful.

Just traded in a bunch of games I no longer wanted for Hyrule Warriors and a Switch LCD protector. Still got $48 worth of credits left because the store was offering double the amount on Easter day. I got rid of Bulletstorm, Disney Fantasia Music Evolved (which ended up giving me 2x more credits than what I originally paid the game for), Conception II, Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, New Super Luigi U, Nintendo Land, Ratchet and Clank (forgot which one), Dungeon Hunters Allicance, and Zhu Zhu Pets.

I would have gotten even more credits but the deal only covered PS3, PS4, PSVita, DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games. :P

The balance will probably be used for Binding of Isaac Afterbirth's 2nd Switch print run (it's discontinued but they plan to release a second run with a limited edition cover art)

I hate tactical and turn-based strategy games where it takes 40 hours to end one single battle turn. I tried getting into them multiple times accross multiple generations and I just don't like them. Too slow-paced for my needs. Nowadays I have even less patience for them because I even lack the patience to play 80's slow-paced RPGs such as Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy NES.

I originally bought it as collectible well below market value but now I need to get rid of some less wanted games.

Games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy 1 & 2 are perhaps the worst offender, i don't like them either.
But games like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem changed my mind, it's just so intense.
If you hate the slow pacing then perhaps you should play them on an emulator with fast-forward. (something i do for Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon and Digimon games)

Recently, a lot of old Atari 2600 games got donated to me, with the one condition that I find someone who wants them. I have a couple copies of games like Pac-Man, Space-Invaders, possibly Asteroid, and at least 6 copies of Video Poker. I also got about 6 joysticks, 2 paddle controllers, and a touch pad. I have almost all of the hardware and software to play a bunch of Atari games minus one key detail; I'm missing the console.

Of course I would be able to emulate any 2600 game with ease on PC or mobile, with the added bonus of it technically being legal to own ROMs of it, since I own the games, but there's something alluring about playing them on actual hardware that I want to experience. Whether that be a friend who owns one playing the games with me or getting one myself (hopefully through a flea market or something cheaper than the online collector's market space of Amazon), I'd be interested. Unfortunately my generation being born before the Atari released means finding that friend will be hard.

So the collections so far is approximately as follows:
Games:
2 * Pac-Man
1 * Raiders of the Lost Arc
2 * Space Invaders
1 * Asteroid
1 * Missile Command
3 * Video Poker
1 * Tennis
1 * Skiiing
1 * Adventure (yes there's literally a game called adventure)
others

Controllers:
6 * Joystick
2 * Paddle
1 * Touch Pad

Other:
1 * TV-Console switch/adapter

Fun.

Nice collection. I hope you can keep at least one game of each and get a console. It's not as fun as the NES overall but some games are still enjoyable to play every now and then.

Also some games looks surprisingly good on that system. Title Match, Solaris and Keystone Cappers (sp?) comes to mind.

I just got the 2nd Rayman game for Nintendo 64. Gonna see if it's any good later (and trade it in if it's not). Not that N64 games are bad, but since this was the beginning of 3D gaming, the controls often sucked compared to today, especially in first person shooters, and cameras were often bad too.

So i found a somewhat broken Game Gear for 25$ with a game with it.The console displayed something and it did not output anything over headphones (at first, see later) when i tried it at the store.
Ended up buying it and challenged myself to try to get it repaired, especially after i hard modded bitboy for CFW.
So here it is, along with 2 more games i bought (Click on pictures to enlarge) :
(https://gameblabla.nl/img/gg_1.jpg) (https://gameblabla.nl/img/gg_1.jpg)
As you can see, it's in fairly good shape physically, and it even comes with the two battery cover, an unusual feat.
So when i brought it home, i took a more closer look at it.

I realized the volume slider was not turned all the way up.
After plugging a bunch of headphones and trying another game, i could hear the game playing, though the volume of it was very low.
So this was definitely an issue with dead capacitors, a common issue on those consoles.I bought the caps plus a gamebit to disassemble it and i should get them this 21th.

Here it is together with my other handleds :

(From top left to bottom right : TI Nspire CX, PSP, Arcade Mini RS-07, PAP KIIIS, RS-97, New Bittboy v1, Sega Game Gear and the Ritmix RZX-50.
I will let you know if i can get it to work reliably.
