The only reason my little sister isn't going to some lower level school is cause she cheats all the time.
u/Dream of Omnimaga February 14, 2015, 04:40:51 PM
The day she gets caught, however, then end up on watch during every test, I wish her good luck >.<

In Quebec and France a few years ago there used to be an online paid service where you could purchase pre-made essays of any topic then use the content to cheat. I'm unsure if such site exists anymore since governments probably got them shut down, but I remember this made news a few years ago and I was apalled that students would go to such lenght in order to get good notes. It was also very common during an exam to see another student try to watch over the other student shoulder to see his answers and many people did that. But later on when you get older the problem is if in the future you need the knowledge you were supposed to learn in class as a student but chose to cheat instead of learning then you'll be in trouble. For example, if you plan to program games but cheated your way through trig, geometry and physics, or if you plan to go to litterature but never actually wrote an essay of your own through hi school.

Anyway back on topic, for the Android game do you plan to use new graphics and higher resolution or do you plan to stick to calculator-style, but colored to keep it true to the original?

Actually, I could let the user choose, what design he wants. But I prefer new HD graphics for the app version. You can still use the emulator to play with the real feeling.

Actually being able to choose between the graphics would be nice, although if the new version has several more features than the calc one, then it might look weird with calc graphics mixed with the more advanced stuff. :P

So. I'm working hard on the app, and it shows some progress.

Will red be the final background color? :P

Also for which version of Android the game will be?
u/DarkestEx February 17, 2015, 01:53:45 AM
No, red is just for development.
The target Android SDK is 4.4 Lollipop right now, but will be changed to 2.3 when in release.

Aah ok. Supporting older versions would definitively be a good thing since many people still have older phones for whatever reasons (either they are fine with them or can't afford an upgrade) and since your game is 2D and not as intensive as a game like Minecraft, supporting older versions of Android should not be too hard. Just make sure that the game speed is throttled on newer devices so it won't run too fast. :P Will there be sound?

Well, I'm bad in making sound, but if anybody makes some sound for me I will credit him / her and definitvle include it.
I could really need some free background music!

I could maybe provide some old sounds of mine to you. I cannot help much otherwise, though, since I am quite bad at doing them lol (I used Music 2000 to generate sound effects before O.O)
u/DarkestEx February 18, 2015, 09:23:16 AM
Would be great, DJ Omnimaga!
I'd be extremely happy about some background music too!

I don't know how you like it, but this is how I would make the textures: (Tile block)
AliceIsDead is helping me with some nice Pixel Art, so I'm looking forward getting some real nice textures.
