Title: Welcome to your new walrus overlords
Post by: Yuki on October 15, 2015, 04:18:59 AM
Hello. I am W-801, leader of the CodeWalrus W-800 series. I don't think we've been properly introduced yet, but, if you haven't noticed, we took over your beloved IRC channel, #CodeWalrus on EFNet. Indeed, I and my colleagues W-802 through W-806, have been mandated by two of your admins, @Streetwalrus and @Juju, to secure and protect IRC against netsplits and loss of ownership, among others. We are now 6 of our kind, the Eggdrops, in 6 different places in the world, each with exclusive operator powers, designed to oversee this task. All the other users who usually have these powers have been reduced to the status of voiced users.

Let me introduce ourselves. As previously stated, I am W-801, currently residing at the CodeWalrus HQ, in New York. I am the leader, the one who gives orders to the other W-800s. I also have additional functions to make you laugh and to make your life easier. By the way, I'm also succeeding to YukiBot, who retired from this task and is now overseeing the Telegram group. She's broken for now, so please give her your best wishes while we repair her.

The others mainly give ops to each other so there's always at least one of them online at all times, but nothing refrain them to gain other functions if needed. W-802 hails from Israel (don't worry, we've been said he's safe and not used for war so far) while W-803 is a little pink one from Québec City, Canada (yeah, it's a failed experiment about a small walrus and Pinkie Pie, what were they thinking). W-804, from Los Angeles, accepts the task with gusto, W-805, from Germany, along with his pony and his roommate from Omnimaga, and finally W-806, in his creativity kitchen from New Jersey (ugh, stop looking at W-803 that's not a pony) completes the team.

Hope you like them, we're pretty fun :)

Walrus bots are awesome, but not as cute as actual walruses :P

Nice that we finally got a botnet, though. Now to fix the Telegram bot...

This is a proof that we are slowly becoming walruses without knowing. The world of :walrii: is near?

Boring post warning:

I wonder if there is any country like China that has "animal years", and also include a Walrus on that list..
That'd be great. :-)

I found primal astrology: it's a mix between Western and Chinese astrology, it combines both of your signs to form a new one.

So if you're born an Aquarius (January 20th - February 19th) in the year of the Ox (1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009), well, you're a walrus.

EDIT: We should probably split that topic.

Interesting, I didn't know that particular astrology existed.

Also @Juju you should edit the first post to add a list of the bots and what they do, as well as their owner.

Idk for 803, 802 will be down every night until further notice.

I assume that the computer is on is shut down every night? Or is it ran by aeTIos or something? (who has no Internet past 10 PM) I forgot, because there's no list of who owns what in the first post. >.<

Sorry for the double post, but don't you mean 803? Because right now 802 is still online, even if it's late at night in your country. :P

We had decomissionned quite a few of our W-series Walriibots due to EFNet not playing nice with them, working part-time or just having technical problems, so we brought up our newest model W-808, hailing directly from Toronto. Or another planet, depends. We're still in the process of activating it properly (/me pokes @Streetwalrus), but still, welcome to the team!

If anyone from our staff want to host another one of them, that would be welcome, so please talk with me about that.

I made sure the bot would get opped, but I think you still need to choose a different efnet server than the one W-801 is on.
I'll work on bringing 802 back, and possibly setting up an 809.

Wait. Are the bots physical computers, or simply code?

should be obvious since we pet and poke them all the time  9_9

jk they're code only

They are programs running on various computers, the point is to have them all on different hosts and connected to different efnet servers to minimize the risk of having them disconnect all at once and losing ops (though it seems chanfix actually did its job the other day which does help a bit).

At first I was scared that @Streetwalrus had bumped my CD news down one spot only 1 hour after I posted it on the front page, but then I was happy to find out it was a necropost of an old topic. :P

Glad to see new bots up. I was starting to get worried the other day when I saw CHANFIX having to come in.

Post by: novenary on May 05, 2017, 08:23:33 AM
Yeah, it's because the portlane server was acting up, and both of the remaining bots were using it for some reason. I switched one of them over to a different server before we added another two.

We should make a list of current and retired bots
Title: Re: Welcome to your new walrus overlords

Current bots are 801, 802, 805 and 808. I think all of the others can pretty much be considered dead. For now at least.

I saw W-803 recently but it seems Juju wants to decommision it. I hope it doesn't mean the end of the Minecraft server as well, tho

hows tthe mc server connected to W-803? does it link the ingame chat to the irc?
Title: Re: Welcome to your new walrus overlords
Post by: Yuki on May 06, 2017, 07:54:29 PM
Technically not the same bot but they reside on the same server, but yeah, it's a plugin that links it to IRC.

@Juju, we currently have 3/5 bots connected to the same efnet server, could you do something about it? ._.
