Nice happy hardcore track by fractilx, I like this guy he actually wrote a song on one of my friends (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kZhDZhM-uO8). It's dedicated to M.A. Larson, famous TV screenwriter.

Seems like an epic hardcore battle of eternal destiny here. Have you checked @DJ Omnimaga's discography already? If not you probably should.

I misread "Let the fun commence" as "Let the beat commence". :P ANyway we might want to not post links or Youtube videos of entire commercial DJ mixes from albums sold in stores like Bonker mixes, in case. Individual tracks or Youtube vids of independent or live DJ sets might be fine, though.

Anyway I wonder what type of hardcore you like the most? In my case it's more German happy hardcore first, by far, then UK hardcore second, but for UK hardcore it's mostly the stuff from 2002 to 2005 or so, and in third place happy hardcore as most of you know it.

I also don't mind freeform and old school (or pre-hardcore) stuff, but it depends of the song. For the rest  what I will like is usually a mix of multiple genres. As for examples of songs from each of the aforementioned genres I like, here are some below:

German happy hardcore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGxX4cvTmNg

UK Hardcore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlQ51zOnMi4

Happy Hardcore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-290rD2LMs

Freeform
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLCIzD5f1Ww

Old-school, pre-1994 happy hardcore (in this case, 1992!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWoZu9Bb2P0

About german happy hardcore, my favorite artist is Blumchen and here's one of my favorite songs from her (from 1997):

And he he another Vibes n Livelee mix for you all as I have to go soon... this one is from 1998

Yes it is from a tape pack but tape pack producers never really got the rights to use the tunes they had on.... so I think we can get away with it DJ lol. Copies of Bonkers etc I agree though should not be posted here

On a side note, for eurobeat and early happy hardcore it's really hard sometimes to find out which artist made a song unless you followed those genres for like 2 decades. For example, many Eurobeat artists release their songs under multiple nicknames, depending of which label they submit them to, and in the happy hardcore or rave scene there are a lot of bootlegs or remixes with little to no changes. For example, the Tekkno Wonderland's extended version by Zoee was re-released as Techno Wonderland by DJ Vibes and it's sometimes released under the artist name Steeve Smith, Steeve Smeeth or even Steeve Smeetit. Most bootleg versions are speed up and have lower sound quality. I can't imagine what would have happened if this became common practice in USA. Probably hundreds of lawsuits every month, since in USA you can get sued just for using rounded corners in your website or OS design.

Also I like that 2nd mix you posted. The only thing I don't like at raves like this is that the DJ screams non-stop during almost the entire song sometimes, so if the song is a masterpiece you can't enjoy it to its full potential. D: On a side note I don't know if you are old enough to go to rave parties but I wonder if mosh pits happen there? They are very common in Bassnectar, Skrillex or other dubstep concerts here, or at least they are in Quebec.

It's some form of dancing at concerts during faster punk rock and heavy metal songs that occurs near the front of the stage in the crowd. It looks like people fighting but with zero intention to hurt anyone (unless you want to be kicked out of the venue). It's particularly violent and you get pushed around a lot but entertaining if you're being careful and follow mosh pit etiquette

I like it. I wasn't sure at first but as it progressed I liked it more. On a side note do you remember the Crush on Hardcore compilations? I don't remember what was the status of the later albums, but I remember that CoH used to be a free DJ mix made available on HardcoreProducers forum way back in 2007 or so and most submitted tracks were from forum users. Later on they started adding commercial artist track remixes, though. However CD2 was removed per the request of one of the artist who chose to make money from his track afterwards, so the download link was hard to find. Anyway I think there are about 4 compilations total and you can find some on Youtube.

Also HardcoreProducer used to be kinda large (small by hardcore forum standards at the time, but still large but close-knit community) but I think they had lots of data losses or other incidents happening and then they died down.

Enjoyed that.

I know this is strictly speaking off topic but as the two genres get lumped together a lot (at least in UK raves) I thought it would be ok to have a bit of Hardcore Techno........

That sounds a bit like terrorcore, but not as hard. I kinda like it, though. It has no bassline but the kickdrum used in it makes up for it and makes the song kinda special. I should try to do some darket hardcore at some point. I once was doing well last year or so, but I lost my work after a crash or something >.<

Also the following is a little slow for happy hardcore, but I felt it was still fitting since the BPM is still very close and Bonkers 7's Hixxy Mix is even slower anyway. Notice how the chorus is almost identical to Time after Time XD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRG0sqGn00E

Talking about Time After Time, now here I go with some tracks that were very common on Limewire :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s28lxnhKMQc

(I know a lot of people hate the following because they loved the original, but I still like both. However I don't think Sy and Unknown made this remix. The remix artist is unknown, since on Limewire P2P client the artist name was "Happy Hardcore")
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neDpcS0pBM0

Another track from Limewire from another unknown artist
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xva7AFb-2E

And now here's another Like a Prayer remix, this time by The Sound Assassins. It sounds a bit similar, but I prefer the version above:

Darn I never heard those before and I love the first one. I can already tell from which year it is without even knowing the year and by the style this must be 1999-2000, right? It totally reminds me of Bonkers 7-8 material. I like the 2nd one too but the first is my favorite. I also didn't know Vinylgroover used "Select" alias.

By the way, I remember you make music, but I was curious if you ever tried making happy hardcore music of your own in the past?

I found another Like a Prayer remix/cover

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaWn_DLUjBI

According to http://www.happyhardcore.com/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=410 there were 3 happy hardcore remixes as of 2001, but none of the three are the one I posted earlier. I kinda like this 1996 one, though.

As for the songs you linked to, I swear I heard the first before, but I'm unsure. I never heard the last two, though, and btw Pacific Sun sounds amazing *.* . I knew the rest for a while, especially Pretty Green Eyes and Heart of Gold, although that copy of Heart of Gold seems heavily pitched up compared to the one I had on Deca Dance's Hardcore volume 1 compilation.

What kind of hardcore does he usually choose? Is his selection closer to Hixxy/Dougal (the more trancy uk hardcore), Sharkey (freeform/acid hardcore) or Scott Brown (harder UK hardcore followed by gabber)? On most Bonkers albums I tend to prefer the Hixxy and Dougal/Gammer sets overall. However, I got hooked on freeform for a while too in the past, especially Sharkey disc on Bonkers 9.

Also I wonder if you ever heard that song lol? http://djomnimaga.codewalr.us/marie_denise_pelletier_-_tous_les_cris_les_sos_dj_omnimaga_happy_hardcore_remix.mp3 That bootleg remix was done in 2003 without any DJ equipment nor computers (two cassette decks, one of which had a built-in mic for recording, as well as a TV and Playstation 1 music 2000 software were used) so this is why the quality is so bad, but I thought I would share lol. The original song is located at https://youtube.com/watch?v=-i5jVSaIfEA (the remix only uses the portion of the song from 1:49 to 4:52).

Some happy hardcore eurodance I discovered

It might remind you of 2 Brother on the 4th Floor.

The only thing I don't like with happy hardcore eurodance is that the bass is often not loud enough, especially the kickdrum.

EDIT: Also wut at the following song? It's weird lol (and it sounds like the signer is saying "c c c c c c [...] c the metal! c c c c" and so on. O.O

Also nice mix @kotu . I like how you also included some older songs or songs with older styles. Also @Juju S3RL was cool. One of my favorite track from him was the Neon Genesis Evangelion remix.

By the way I also did DJ mixes with various softwares, not turntables, but some of them are just mixes of my own songs or includes my songs. Also, only one of them is 100% hardcore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7JOOyhEd50

For the following mixes, the hardcore/drum and bass stuff starts about halfway through the mixes or a bit later. Volume 3 and 5 had no hardcore/dnb, hence why I only included volume 1, 2 and 4 below. Volume 5 Part 2 or Volume 6 were supposed to be 100% hardcore/dnb but finally got canceled.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21h1Xk93518
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVLNOfvbGs8

Also @kotu you should check out the Deep Magic Dance megamixes. There are about 100 of them IIRC, but while all of them starts with eurodance, the last 20 minutes or so is often faster and filled with 90's happy hardcore. I think hardcore started being seriously included around Volume 35 or so. There was also Deep Dance I think but it seems it didn't have hardcore. All are from Germany.

DJ Omnimech you asked if I ever tried to make hardcore well I had another 'attempt', what I made was not hardcore, but it does have some cheky piano reminding me of ratpack-type stuff, if you know what I am saying (nb). It's more just drum music though DJ Surgeon says and he says it is c.

After one decade of search, I finally found out who made the happy hardcore remix of Gangsta's Paradise (which was one of the most common Limewire songs when searching for happy hardcore). It's by DJ Dave and it's from 1996 (I thought it was from 1998-99, based on the style)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zchf7_5cnbw
He even made a reggae version lol: https://youtube.com/watch?v=8KALDjYP1-Y

Also @kotu those piano melodies would definitively fit well into actual happy hardcore or even UK hardcore :3=

Wouldn't hard house be more around 140 bpm, though? I would say this is more halfway between eurodance and happy hardcore.

Also, the following is not hardcore but this is some frigging old video there lol. 1989 illegal UK rave:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pU4F706VsMA

Back then the illegal rave scene was pretty huge lol but people apparently took illicit drugs there >.<. I wonder if they still happen nowadays? In Canada I bet illegal raves were extremely rare. I remember in 2007 or so they did an outdoor one on a beach somewhere but I didn't go since it required a car and it was very cold on that night. Not sure it was legal or not lol, but it would definitively have been fun. Nowadays in Quebec City we sometimes have that thing called Le Hangar, but it never happens at the same location and happens like twice a year at random dates. Plus all they play is American electro/house and dubstep, no actual hardcore/rave music.

That said, dubstep concerts can be fun for their mosh pits over here :P

(https://img.discogs.com/vM-ae9kZh-QUI9HgisSOxmPV_i0=/fit-in/300x300/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(40)/discogs-images/R-1253514-1451485713-2904.jpeg.jpg)

Each song on it were cut off at around 2-3 minutes, unmixed, resulting into every song ending just about 1-3 seconds into the drop/climax.

Also that song above that you linked is awesome :D

The Joey Riot song you had in there yesterday was awesome. Do you still have the link? I forgot the title. I swear it was a different one than the one a few posts above.

To be honest, if I ever decide to start making DJ mixes of other people songs, I will probably put them on a different Youtube channel, because I am worried that if one artist or label has issues with it then all my 7+ years of work on my current channel would be lost to a copyright strike and account termination. I would have to make sure to not link that channel with my current one, though. Anyway that mix sounds kinda good so far, although I haven't listened to all of it yet.

Also to be honest, I tend to not like MC mixes as much as DJ mixes, because MC's often keep talking non-stop during songs, which is annoying when it's an awesome song. So I'm glad to see a mix with no talking in it :P

Really? O.O I guess maybe it's the same across countries and regions. For example, I can't stand most songs from Quebec. Maybe we just hear local songs so often that we get tired of them if it's a genre we like less. But german happy hardcore is some of my favorite compared to old happy hardcore from UK (it depends tho). It seemed like German happy hardcore was ahead of its time in terms of sounds used. For example, the intense reverb effects used for the string pads in Blumchen songs make her 1994-96 songs sound like 2000-04 UK hardcore until the classic 90's kickdrum starts.

EDIT Also some 1996-98 stuff. I always loved those songs back in 2003. Should listen to them more again. The last is not my favorite version of Set you free, but it's the first I ever heard so I was hooked on it for a while years ago. The last video is the second version I heard and is my favorite

I kinda like this version of Tekkno Wonderland:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rln8WHZBkg

Although of course my favorite will always remain the original extended version (the one from Zoee that Steeve Smith and/or Ravers' Choice ripped off verbatim)

By the way, can we post old rave music in this thread like stuff from Rave-o-lution? I know it's not always hardcore and probably not ol' school in the sense that it's not jungle/dnb but I thought it would fit.

This: https://www.discogs.com/Various-Hardcore-Mission/release/173921

Good luck finding some of the songs listed there, especially the UFO songs. They seem impossible to find anywhere online. Anyway while I didn't like those albums that much, they still had some interesting songs. Most are just fast trance, but there are some happy hardcore songs there (which mostly sounds like trancecore, freeform or something like that), most of which are from 1996-97. This is one of my favorite songs on the album (the first four minutes suck, but the rest is fun)

Dougal and Gammer will always be an amazing duo for new hardcore songs. They are almost always good to listen to and this song in particular is no exception :)

Also that last mix sounds kinda like stuff from Rave-O-Lution, one of the Bonkers Vol #7 CD or similar mid 90's rave music compilations, with an hint of trancecore in some songs (around when trance became popular and happy hardcore tried to go head to head with it)

Well if you get so mad about a post downvote that you are boycotting CW then I don't know what to say. (the last downvote was because you either seriously or jokingly accused me repeatedly of calling you a toast despite me saying otherwise, and tend to be too pushy about such things, which can get on people's nerves). I edited this post now that I am calmed down but I hope you get what I mean.

So what
Title: Re: The Hardcore and Old Skool Thread
Post by: aetios on March 09, 2017, 09:12:31 PM
Alright guys calm down. @kotu being mad over a downvote is a bit silly, it means nothing really; if you feel that a downvote was unjustified you can just slide it off and/or message one of the 5 staff members that we have (contrary to what might seem I *am* still alive, the easiest way is to poke me via WIRC mention @aeTIos). We'll then sort it out. On the other hand I'm sure you're well aware that sometimes the way you respond is a bit over the top/trollish; you've already been warned for that - keep that in mind. A joke now and then is fine but don't take it too far, especially not when you notice others don't find it funny.

Now, @DJ Omnimaga I think your downvote in the 'what do you look like'-thread is stretching it a bit. Kotu was quite obviously taking @Juju for a spin and not being serious; if maybe a bit spammy and trolly. He definitely did not intend to hurt anyone and your 'false accusation' downvote was a false accusation in itself ; think about that. If you have trouble interpreting someone, ask one of the staff members 'hea what does this here piece of toast mean to say with this' instead of just mashing the downvote button; no one's benefitting from that kind of passive-aggressive behavior.

Now, if this thread can just go back to being quiet (as far as that goes in a thread about hardcore old skool), that'd be great.

signing off

Title: Re: The Hardcore and Old Skool Thread
Post by: aetios on March 09, 2017, 09:29:55 PM
I know that; but if you go and read back (which I recommend you to do) then you'll kotu was just playing around a bit and definitely not intending to hurt you; besides come on, don't get worked up over someone supposedly blaming you for calling him a toaster lmao. Keep in mind that not only kotu, but you as an admin especially are responsible for keeping a healthy atmosphere; not something you achieve by being aggressive. Don't lash out and then complain to the other admins, just report incident and we'll discuss what happens next. No yelling in threads.
Title: Re: The Hardcore and Old Skool Thread
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 09, 2017, 09:57:26 PM
The problem is that it's incredibly hard to distinguish when Kotu is being serious  or trolling around, and I've seen times where in similar convos he was actually serious or at least partly serious (eg after the KILL CMND first public demo suggestions when he seemed mad and during the Tau vs Pi argument where both him and JWin got mad). And I don't like when people are being pushy about things that were not said (when someone says no, it means no.)

And @aeTIos the first time I reported an incident after the c4ooo ban, nobody even bothered replying IIRC (despite the staff argument about the c4ooo incident having been caused by that lack of communication in the first place), so unless I have nothing else to do and have lots of free time, I partly gave up on reporting incidents.

On another off-topic note, do you prefer DJ mixes where a MC keeps talking to entertain the crowd or do you prefer mixes with no talking other than the lyrics? I always found myself to prefer the latter, because I hate when I try to listen to an amazing song, only to hear some guy shouting non-stop during it, especially when he drowns out the song volume.

Btw nice song

That's an interesting point. Normally when not at a rave I listen to stuff without MCs, but when at a club/rave it seems to keep the crowd's energy going, so is quite good (although some MCs ruin it)

My main issue at some venues and fairs here is that the announcer is way too loud when no concert or dj set is playing and we can't even talk to our friends. Sometimes metal bands will talk to the crowd during songs to get them going but at least the sound is usually well balanced. MC's are uncommon here IIRC, though

that pretty much ruins everything for me :P
I even remember a radio station where a techno/trance/happy hardcore show had this happening and it was not a MC, but rather the one in charge suddenly cutting songs and talking about his friend's convenience store or all sort of irrelevant stuff.

Also Kotu that first song is amazing. I like melodic DnB. The 2nd one is fun too

By the way, not to advertise, but since this is an hardcore remix of someone else's song, I thought I would share this in this thread

There is also this one that you probably heard before, but in case the other link goes down here's another link (the sound quality is very bad)

EDIT: Also this guy remade various hardcore songs on Music 2000 but sadly he has no recording equipment yet. I hope he does, someday

It was 8 PM over here  Also those Scott Brown videos are amazing, especially the first two songs and the studio video. Also my favorite version of hardcore vibes was the one by Dune.

Also do you remember this song @kotu ? @JWinslow23 might like as well, since he seems to be into that type of YTP-style mashup videos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dT2iE1OBGk

It was a classic way back then (I think it was even a meme, although I think there was a second version with mono sound that was more common)

@kotu back in 2006 or so (or maybe before), Cilit Bang Techno Remix was kinda like a meme, like All Your Base are Belong to Us in 2001. It's possible that Cilit Bang is actually older than 2006 too.

Also @Juju yeah I had this in my favorites. It's not UK hardcore of course but eurobeat has a similar BPM and sometimes some hardcore elements and this is an amazing song. It should be remade into UK hardcore :D

Well well this is supposed to be the Hardcore and Old Skool thread and so far there has been little (if any) Old Skool so I thought it was time for an Old Skool mix. For those of you that don't know (this mix is from 1995), at the time we used to call this stuff Hardcore, and now we call it Old Skool. Hardcore nowadays means music with a 4/4 kickdrum, Old Skool is more breakbeat driven.

If you are wondering what the Chris Barrie rererence is (the guy with the 'H' on his forehead), it is his voice at around 55:25 saying 'most uplifting'! (not the woman, there are two samples saying the same thing)

Anyway here we go with an awesome mix...... let me know what you think @DJ Omnimaga :D

Darn, I missed a lot of songs since I last checked this thread. Those Sy and Unknown songs and remixes are epic. I unfortunately had to skim through the mixes, though, due to lack of time, but I agree about the track at 28:15 in the last video. I swear I heard a different version before, or at least a song with the same piano. What is it?

Also lol this version is weird

DJ Merkurius will play an hardstyle and hardcore set at Forever 2019 in Quebec City. However, it's the night right before an Alcoholica concert, so I'm unsure which event I will attend (if any), especially that I'm not as much into hard style and half of the event will feature house and electro music  (it also ends at 6 AM, which is well past my usual bed time). I'm glad to see hardcore finding its place in my province, though, which isn't much into electronic music, let alone rave music.
