This 2002 artwork from me is so bad it's criminal.

Sometimes, it's fun (or scary) to look back into our old artwork and creations. The following is some of the artwork that was used in the PC version of Illusiat 5. Those treasure chests were huge for no reason lol

I'm glad I got better <_< (actually I didn't get that much better at drawing hi-res art, but I at least improved in sprites and other areas). I also got much better at using the right resolutions for my graphics, eg keeping aspect ratio and stuff lol

Do you realize how much I hate clickbait captions? xD

But yeah, I remember that time, where even the crappiest graphics was still considered super cool...
I remember spending day after day just drawing random c in Paint, with those cool tools, like the spray bottle and fill  9_9
its actually really sad these days are over...
back then everything was super cool
nowerdays if its too pixelated it's already uncool...

And the next thing we know DJ is working for BuzzFeed.

Nah, seriously, pretty cool to see art from 15 years ago.

The title is 100% relevant, though. My old art sucked so bad lol :P . Fun to look back at our old stuff, though

On the other hand, good thing I did not try to draw a :walrii: in 2002 O.O

I can show you 'one small trick just 5 minutes per day' that can completely turn your graphics around!

Lol still cool to see the graphics, pretty good imo :).

You like them? D: That said, I am surprised I had some gradients and details there. But the thing about those rocks and spheres is that most were stock images lol.

theses image really rock dj my favourite is this one....

gives me inspiration to do something in a similar retro style  ;)

I think in this game, I was really surprised by the fire animation. Somehow looked surprisingly realistic for a bunch of colored circles drawn on top of each other.
u/Dream of Omnimaga February 02, 2017, 12:23:48 AM
Yeah to be fair, the circles part was more realistic lol. The fire animation might be ok but overall the scene was kinda simple lol. I basically just used a large pen or something in Paint shop pro to draw some dunes in 2 seconds each then made some gradients. I think such game would have worked better at lower resolution and with different kind of graphics. Another issue was consistency.

This art is not bad, it's just from a different age!
I can just smell those 256mb chips burning in the hot summer sun.
u/Dream of Omnimaga April 12, 2017, 04:15:12 AM
256 MB hard drive chips? :P I would say the art is more from the P2 era with 64 MB RAM and 1 GB disk space. But yeah it looks ancient. :P

I hope :walrii: doesn't look too ancient, tho D:
u/tr1p1ea April 12, 2017, 10:37:48 PM
Hehehe cool.

I lost all of my old stuff but I had things quite similar :).

Nice work! You should make another game in this style :):).

I probably won't, tr1p1ea, unless it's a parody of older Flash games. :P
