Title: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on June 16, 2015, 05:11:42 AM
What are you looking forward for E3? I personally didn't follow it much, but various things interests me a lot this year so far:

-Final Fantasy VII remake
-Xbox One backward compatibility with the Xbox 360. I got tired of buying a new 360 every 6 month due to their high failure rates, so that new feature is definitively something I would like a lot.
-Forza 6 (I might skip on this one at first since I am not playing racing games much lately but it was my favorite racing franchise)
-Star Fox Wii U

There might be more as I discover. I'm hoping for a new Zelda game for the Wii U that is actually Zelda.

Xbox compat is likely to be crappy like ps2 compatibility on some ps3's before they eventually removed it. Thing is the Xbox 360 architecture is different from the Xbox and the one (these are actual PCs while the 360 is PowerPC with all kinds of difference). That means a lot of emulation has to be done and you know how this goes. :P

As for Zelda I'm expecting something too. If they release something I'm gonna bug the hell out of my parents for the U.

Woah that Star Wars game looks nice! :O I hope it looks as good in the final release, since some games look better at E3 than when released.

Apparently, it is fairly close to reality, as some reviewer was able to play it on PS4 at E3.
Keep also in mind that PS4 detail level <<<<<PC detail level  ( prepare the cooling of graphic card :P )
Of course, the action is ost likely to be scripted here.

That's unless they dumb down the graphics in the final release, though. Also I tend to wait for reviews before buying any game with hardcore graphics, because it seems that some tend to just focus on graphics and not playability (Sonic 2006, anyone?). Especially now that games are $79.99 in Canada >.<

Battlefront 3 and Minecraft 1.9 are the most exciting. Especially Battlefront 3. Battlefront 2 was literally the best so hopefully 3 will be 2 but new. :D

Indeed. The minecraft hololens demonstration looked really stunning. Also, it seems that battlefront III won't really look like (in terms of gameplay) to the II, but I personnaly like the change they've made. (Like, no classes, but own player design). Can't wait to play it  :D

It looks like Super Mario Maker will retail for $60 in USA and $70 in Canada. I guess this breaks the trend of retro stuff being released for $30-40, but the level editing capabilities of this game probably explains it.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?

Wow. 60$? That is extremely expensive O.O
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on August 15, 2015, 03:18:50 PM
It's the standard price for new games, but generally, HD ports or remakes, as well as re-releases, are priced $30-40. THis game appears to be an exception. I'm definitively getting it, though and Omega Quintet might have to wait a bit.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Snektron on August 15, 2015, 03:33:48 PM
Over here it's always been 60€ too, despite the eur/dollar exchange...
Way to much for a game IMO. Though on steam it's generally a little cheaper than in game stores. Also there are sales :3
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?

Steams sales are always great.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on August 17, 2015, 05:50:10 AM
Indeed. I tend to prefer physical copies, though, since it's easier to re-install from a disc than redownloading everything (plus if Steam ever closes down and you have to reformat your hard drive then you're screwed)

And AFAIK, Steam lacks Nintendo games :P
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: CKH4 on August 17, 2015, 04:59:19 PM
If steam ever closed everyone would be screwed as they use an online authentication service to play games. After you launch the game for the first time it does the necessary things to launch the game in offline mode but its very screwy and sometimes does not work.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on August 17, 2015, 05:04:27 PM
Isn't there a way to launch Steam games without launching Steam client? IIRC you just had to find the executable in your Programs folder and you were set.

But yeah, that is why I tend to prefer physical game copies. Not to mention that a digital copy has no trade-in value.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: CKH4 on August 17, 2015, 05:06:52 PM
The program file one launches a steam thing to launch the game so in theory it could be disassembled to allow direct launch but I think it's near impossible.

Also on the original topic which I guess is pretty old now,
No man's sky and battlefront 3

Yeah but I once managed to launch some Steam games and programs (eg RPG Maker VX) without launching the Steam thing. I went in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common and the games were there. However, I bet it won't work if a game in particular requires Steam to work.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: CKH4 on August 17, 2015, 05:16:18 PM
Yeah that may be how it is. I think I've only tried if with valve games so I wouldn't really know all the details.
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on August 17, 2015, 05:17:00 PM

Ok so I just tried again and it looks like it still launches Steam when launching the game directly. It even forces you to login in order to play. I swear RPG Maker VX Ace didn't do it before. Maybe some new Steam security?
Title: Re: E3 - What are you looking forward?
Post by: CKH4 on August 17, 2015, 06:00:12 PM
I think so, I seem to remember steam being more lenient a while ago so they may have changed it. Judging from the new account regulations that are horrible. I was going to make a new account to use as my online account but it wouldn't let me add friends or steam game share.

That sucks. What if someone loses his account and email and Steam can't help them? They can never use Steam again to its full potential?

Yeah, you have to get gifted a game, or spend 5 dollars to get the full potential, to lower spam. It kind of sucks.

Necropost time with some celshaded Zelda everyone didn't want celshaded, as to showcase the true power of the Wii U that we will finally never see.

What are you looking forward so far? I had no time to watch E3 but like last year I'm gonna go through trailers and news to make my picks and share what I can't wait for. Despite being celshaded the new Zelda looks great. I just wish they did it like TP to make the Wii U go out with a bang, though. Twilight Princess HD doesn't do the console justice.

It sucks when we have been waiting for so long on a game sequel, only to be served with some weird or lower end gimmick later. An example is the new Metroid game

Didn't catch E3 this year but I was informed of Metroid Prime 4, Metroid 2D on 3DS, Kirby platformer and I'm thrilled now.

Oh and after 20 years of wait, a Pokemon RPG that is not a spinoff will be on a real TV console?

I'm even more thrilled now. My wallet, on the other hand...

A ton of ports of Skyrim VR/Special Edition/Hearthstone-style game/whatever again like every year (I almost thought some of the posts above were written in 2017, welp), they probably should stop releasing new versions of their previous games and start working on a sequel. That new Wolfenstein II game looks interesting, though. Also Spiderman, Detroit: The Game and whatever Nintendo announced.

AND FINAL FANTASY XV BASS FISHING???

In only 1 hour Nintendo blew up E3. And in the span of 6 months, they did one of the greatest, if not THE greatest company comeback in video gaming history. No, really:
SMOdyssey looks absolutely... Mind-blowing, fantastic, amazing, anything.
2 new Metroids while everyone was thinking the series was dead. Really.
Mario&Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser's linions, remaster on the 3DS. Cool.
Mario+Rabbids. Doesn't look as dumb as at the beginning.
Kirby&Yoshi in 2018. I love you Nintendo.
Main Pokémon title for the Switch to expect in 2018-2019. Finally.
Frikkin portable Rocket League and Fifa 18. There you go, 3rd parties.
Of course, Sonic Forces and Mania. Thank you Sega.

I think the Switch is going to sell around 15-20 millions for first year, minimum.
