Title: Thanksgiving and Black Friday
Post by: alexgt on November 10, 2015, 10:35:28 PM
This is a topic where you can share funny stories about Thanksgiving and black friday.

also with the disappearance of my Prime as of late I am going to look for some deals on calcs for black friday (yes I realize that there are not going to be many good deals on calcs if any at all (I am dubious also))

Thanks for the laughs   8)

I wish Target didn't screw up their Canadian expansion and didn't end up closing every Canadian store last April. They had by far the best Black Friday sale of all around here (although the ones who had the $50 off + 1 extra game on the XBone were good). Sears usually does Black Friday through the entire weekend and as a result the deals aren't as interesting.

I'm gonna keep an eye on video game deals at Microplay, EB Games and also music at HMV, though. The problem is Black Friday isn't as big in Canada since our Thanksgiving is in October. Boxing Day usually is more crowded, but stores opens at 1 PM.

Wait what? O.O Isn't Black Friday in 2 weeks? Seriously if you really want to be sure to get something, just arrive an hour or two before the store opens and if you fail then be it. Besides, sometimes people just buy stuff they don't really need anyway.

I have no Idea all I know is he has allot of time to waist when he would be making more than we will save for black friday (he is probably trying for the world record xD)

Besides, even if he had to camp for 2 weeks in front of the store to get a particular item, wouldn't he have risks of getting his stuff stolen while he went a few streets away to buy food?

That's the big idea, "massive" discounts so peopl will buy their stuff they don't even need anyway

Yup, never go to black friday deals if you don't know what you want and what is/ is not a good deal otherwise it is really easy to get ripped off <_<

Yeah you now bring up or make me think of another issue (depending of what you meant by your post): Often, during Black Friday and Boxing Day sales, they'll price everything else at regular price or only 5-10% off, because they know that most customers will buy other junk while taking advantage of the big deal, so in the end, some people will spend $200 on a 50 inch TV at 50% off the original price, plus $300 on other items at full price. And those fully-priced items will be on sale just a week after New Year.

My family bought a 32 inch flat screen tv for $200 dollars and we still haven't taken it out of the box...
I think that was 1 or 2 black Fridays ago ;D

I've actually never realized that some people would have a birthday on black friday. I wonder if they get black friday discounts for their parties. But then, I doubt they would have the party on black friday, I would probably just reschedule it for a different day.

Btw Staples got their date wrong. They launched a black friday online sale one week in advance. <_<

Yeah, a lot of stores are doing that because they can't get their inventory out fast enough in one day.

It's kinda ruining the Black Friday experience and watering down deals, though. X.x

So stores published their Black Friday flyers yesterday for the most part but big stores like Best Buy and Walmart waited until today before doing so. So far, Best Buy has some nice deals on consoles and desktops, but I don't need any of those. Walmart.ca has Halo 5 at $25 off, but I don't know if it's available offline. I might head to the store tomorrow evening to check in case. EB Games had GTAV at $15 off. The TV deals aren't all that interesting compared to stuff I saw before. Also IIRC Microplay has some crazy deal on the Wii U O.O

Fans of sports games who wants the latest versions might also be happy because they are $30 off at many places.

Also I noticed that some clothing stores started the BLack Friday sale at 5 PM today. Of course the stores are closed from 9 PM to 8 AM, though, plus I don't really need clothes right now. :P But that's probably an indication that next year some bigger stores will start doing this too.

So the aftermath: http://www.theonion.com/article/42-million-dead-in-bloodiest-black-friday-weekend--30517

Just kidding, anybody got anything interesting? I personally didn't bother because I was too tired after work.

Bump:

Have they announced any interesting deals for Black Friday in USA yet? Over here we only have pre-Black Friday deals and stuff like that, such as that one 32 inch DEL TV for $158 and Crap of Duty: Infinite Warfare at EB Games for $50 instead of $80, but they haven't posted the actual flyers yet for the big event.

Also relevant to Black Friday:

$158 32" LED TVs? Is this madness?

And yeah, CoD is still overpriced, as usual.

So as I expected, EB Games has Forza Horizon 3 for $50 instead of $80, and to my surprise, World of Final Fantasy as well. But FF games usually drop to around $20 after 1 year, so should I wait?

Also Overwatch for $40 instead of $80. I liked the game although the rebate seems to be on the console version.

As for Microplay, New 3DS Mario Edition (black) for $140 and GTA V for $30 instead of $70. They also have World of Final Fantasy and Forza Horizon 3 for the same prices as EB Games.

Still nothing else for Walmart and Best Buy.

I wouldn't buy Forza Horizon 3 at that price. As for the FF game, it depends but FF15 should be released in November and you will have to choose between that and FF15.
Unless of course FF15 turns into a big turd

Someone told me that I should only buy Forza Horizon 3 at full price if I was an hardcore fan or if I had no other Forza game on the Xbox One. However at lower price I might consider it. But now that I see World of Final Fantasy, I could definitively wait a bit longer and get that instead. My bro was planning to buy FFXV himself.

I could also get WoFF for PS Vita, but I will need to hack my PS TV if I do that because of the whitelist BS (they blocked it on purpose so that people won't try to save money to play it on the big screen). I heard that there are some graphical glitches, though.

UPDATE:

Walmart:
$250.76 for Xbox One 500 GB (Canadian dollar)
$50 for NHL 17 FIgure Bundle
$40 for Overwatch: Origins Edition on consoles
$40 for DBZ Xenoverse 2 (I heard it was kinda fun as it's not just a battle game but also adventure)
$50 for most Xbox One and PS4 gamepads.
Lots of deals on LEGO Dimension stuff.

La Planque Jeux Vidéo (not available online):
-10% on entire new games inventory (even the new releases)
-10% on all retro games
-20% on all recent used games
-20% on entire used consoles inventory
-20% all apparel, merch, toys, plushies, etc

La Planque Jeux Vidéo (Online store):
-Free shipping on any purchase of $50 or higher. (not sure if they ship outside Canada, but the promo code is WOOT50)

Note that all of the aforementioned deals starts tomorrow except La Planque, which starts today, and they all end Sunday.

Bump

So does anyone play to buy something for Black Friday this year? I haven't spotted anything yet, but if Microplay or La Planque gets deals on CoD Infinite Warfare,
WWII or Star Wars Battlefront II, then I might get one of those (provided that the deal is valid with in-store credits)

<spambot>
By the way, all my physical CD releases will be $1.85 from Thursday to Monday at http://kunaki.com/mSales.asp?PublisherId=147037&PP=1 (or http://kunaki.com/mSales.asp?PublisherId=147037 for people who don't have Paypal)

Please Dont.
WWII looks fun though, if your PC can run it.

I'm looking for a new graphics card, maybe a 1070, as I have the money, and the one I have right now just isn't cutting it.
