Title: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System [HP Prime][HP PPL]
Post by: alexgt on May 17, 2015, 05:33:22 AM
Hey look another project that won't get done :P. As you might know MinePrime development is paused until I find a way to display the world quickly or the "bug"/ constraint that appeared in the new firmware update is fixed/ removed. Because I don't have a major project now besides JarvAxe 5.0 (which will be complete someday) I decided to make a cousin to JarvAxe 5.0 coined S.I.F.S. or Super Intelligent Friend System (possible changes to the name in the future). S.I.F.S. (pronounced Sifs) will be a Shell if I can run progs in a prog, a program editor, a AI chat box, a notes editor, and random stuff to change settings about the calc.

As of now I am still in the middle of testing the possibility of some of these features and no real code has been written so ideas are much appreciated :)

Thanks for the help and support :)

"Look Mom! I have friends now!" *Pulls out calculator* :trollface:

Anyway this could be really cool! :)

I have done that before with JarvAxe 5.0 :P

When I posted that it was 2:00 am so I haven't got anything done with it :(

I am curious about how far the capabilities of HP PPL could be pushed with this. Most programs demonstrating them are games but I would like to see how well an AI chat bot operates. Good luck and I hope your other projects won't die (including the contest entry) :P

This will be more of a shell then AI bot instead of JarvAxe 5.0, he is a AI bot then shell as an addon if I complete him.

Just finished Nagoji :) just need to hang on to it and not let my backup/calc die :P

Do like the UI you wanted to make on JARVAXE, the smartphone like thingy with the menu on the right

Not really, I think I have it figured out :). there will be two columns of text. You will be able to scroll with the touch screen, being able to select notes editor, program editor, view the notes, and run program. Next I will make a column to choose which program/note to uses.

Awesome! It is always good to have more people in the Prime community, it is really sparse here on CW :)
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on May 19, 2015, 11:41:53 PM
Actually if we only count people who program games for that calculator, then I think CW has the highest amount of them. :P But if we also include people who don't care about games, then HP Museum has by far the highest amount of Prime users (most of which prefer the HP 48g series) and Cemetech comes very far in second place.

As for the UI, what would be cool is if you managed to make it all using shapes, polygons and lines with gradients, so the user could customize the colors easier.

Anyone can program the prime with the free emulator it is just tons faster than the actual calc that is why I code on-calc.

For the program/notes editor S.I.F.S. will feature a QWERTY on-screen keyboard to simulate typing better :)

Still working on Apps :). S.I.F.S. will be an App because you can shut off your calc and turn it on and it won't exit the App, with this we can make it more shell like :)

Well, TI dominates the school market so that's kinda inevitable and HP didn't release new calcs for years prior the Prime.

I would probably need to know how the S.I.F.S UI looks like before making an icon. The icon could be based off JarvAxe if there is a screenshot of the UI then scaled down after I added colors based on S.I.F.S UI I guess.

Maybe you could add an inverted mode? Since you can use multiple GROBs then you could have the icons and images separate then invert the GUI/text GROB, then paste the images on it afterward.

As for school friends, be careful to always keep your calc safe, though, so it won't get stolen or broken by accident. I mean if they see Minecraft, HP Prime Tunnel or some 3D program running on it then some people could go insane or something (unless TI-Nspire CX calcs are common there, but it's still better to be careful).

For the icon I guess I could just go with a miniature of a Windows explorer or command prompt window. I cannot promise anything, though.

Can you own something monochrome of such low resolution? That would seem unfair because if you randomly generated the letter A at that low resolution you'd end up with TIs version because there are only like 16 possible As.
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on May 24, 2015, 04:14:04 PM
I doubt it, but TI is so stupid that I wouldn't be surprised if they tried suing people for using similar fonts in the past (eg Casio). They would be guaranteed to lose. There was an April Fools joke in 2010 that involved such scenario: http://www.omnimaga.org/news/ti-sends-dmca-takedown-notice-to-omnimaga-for-key-font-usage/

That April Fools prank was in response to the DMCA takedown notices sent about the public RSA keys in late 2009.

That said, I kinda prefer the NES style fonts to TI's, to be honest. :P

Got the fonts working :). there are two modes. DrawString(Str,Fsize,X,Y,G) and DrawStrDelay(Str,Fsize,X,Y,Delay,G). the latter one draws the string with specified delay between letters to make it look cooler :).

Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System
Post by: alexgt on May 27, 2015, 11:33:47 PM
Yup O.O!!! There is a var called "Programs" located at "Vars" -> "System" -> "Programs". This can make a new one, give you the names of all the programs in a list, store a program's source into a string,  and store a string to the programs source code! you can also do this with notes to. There are also vars to get the date, time, and even set the auto off for the calc! The one thing that I don't know how to run the programs within the App/Program so there might be some struggle with getting the shell part working :(.

Hope this helped with any programs that this is useful for :)

Wow, and to think in TI-BASIC we can't even come anywhere close to even editing one line of code inside a program. Heck, we can't even detect if a list exist O.O

That now makes me wonder if it would be cool if someone made a TI-83+ BASIC compiler for the HP Prime where the editor would work with tokens and perhaps even allow you to set the resolution or fonts to the ones used on the 83+. It would not support everything but it would at least support the most common basic I/O and CTRL commands.

Back on topic, I wish you good luck on running programs from the shell. Maybe you could make a new topic asking how to?

that would  be awesome if we could make an emulator for Ti 84/83 O.O. I looked at the I/O and the Ctl sections and we could probably replicate them with subs, it would be nice if Lbl and Goto were a thing, mostly you would use subs but it is really convenient to have sometimes.

Thanks for the luck :). The way I think you might be able to do it is executing the code as if it was in your program... I can put the code in a string, it just feels so close to being able to do something with it <_<. A thing you can do is switch the view to the prog menu if you want to run one and have a hotkey to take you back to the GUI but that would interrupt the flow I think <_<. Also it wouldn't look as good as the GUI.

Well I finished the GUI and I also am starting the scroll selector for the program editor :). I will post a screenie when I have the scroll menu complete and then a download (possibly with a rough version of the editor). I also plan to have syntax highlighting (possibly custom :)).

Post by: alexgt on May 31, 2015, 02:38:24 PM
^Thanks :P.

Well the shell will be a thing I figured out how to run a program with out entering "ProgramName(ARGS)" into the source O.O :).

1: Store Program var into a list
L1 := Programs;

2: The list will have all the programs that are in your program lib so you can read their names and do:
Str1 := Programs(L1(UserInput));
That to recover the source code.

3: You can also make a new program with this command and set it's source code:
Programs("RUN") := ""; //Sets program to empty string which deletes it
Programs("RUN") := Source; //makes RUN's source code the string Source

4: Detecting the thing to do this: ProgramName(ARGS) is different
We need to use INSTRING() command and tell it to look for "EXPORT"
Pos := INSTRING(UPPER(Programs(UserInput)),"EXPORT"); //Use UPPER() to make shure "EXPORT" is upper case if the coder was all fancy and did "Export" :P
//Now we have to find if they exported a var or a function
Pos := Pos + 7; //Skip the export word
For A From 1 to 20 do //20 is the max characters for a prog
If MID(Programs(UserInput),Pos+A,2) == "()" Then //If it is a function store it in a sting
ProgToRun := MID(Programs(UserInput),Pos,A);
End;
End;

5: Now we have the code that you can use to run the program we have to run it :)
Programs("RUN") := "EXPORT RUN()
BEGIN
" + ProgToRun + "
END;"

One more step :)

6: Now we run the program that we want to run O.O
RUN();

Hope this helped you :)

Coming along well considering exam prep <_<

Question, is Program actually a built-in var or a custom one? I am curious since I am a bit confused at how your code above works. If it lets you run any .hpprgm file as you see fit then it's amazing. You should post a tutorial inside the HP help thread or a new topic.
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System
Post by: alexgt on June 02, 2015, 09:31:26 PM
It is a built in var I will post an extensive tutorial on HP Programming help :).

The way it works is it looks for the main EXPORTED function because there are usually only one (the start of the game ect.)
then it looks for the function name
EXPORT ProgTest_1()
ProgTest_1() is what I am looking for because you can run it in a program with ProgTest_1();

You can make new programs and change the code so next you make a new program (preferably a long random name so the name wont' be taken by another prog which would delete that one's code :()

Then you make the source
"EXPORT RunName() //or whatever you want to name it
BEGIN"
+ RunString + //the string that has ProgTest_1 or the program of choice
"END;" //ends the RunName() function

and then since the source to that program is what you just set it to all you need to do is run that program which is easy because you know the main EXPORT functions name: RunName();

after you run this program you can repeat the same steps with a different program ;)

Note this is for shells only really because in all other cases I can think of you would just use ProgTest_1(); and run it that way but SIFS has to detect, store, and execute code so this is a special case so you wouldn't use this in code on a regular basis.

UPDATE: (kind of :P)
- Got menus working (nice touch screen scrolling ;))
I have to do a bit to tell the shell sub what to run on the menu and spruce up and optimize the possible bugs in the shell and BAM! I will post the first download O.O

Thanks for all the help and support :)

Thanks for the tutorial alexgt. This will definitively be handy for those who don't like the HP Prime GUI as much and/or want to make a shell/replacement to launch programs.

And yeah the HP emulator is free of charge and doesn't require a serial key. The only downside is that games that lacks timers/delays will run too fast to be playable (eg NAGOJI)

EDIT: It looks like your app doesn't work. When I press Start, all I see is this:

(http://img.codewalr.us/sifs.png)

Also just like NAGOJI, the icon defaults to the Quadratic Explorer app.

Also just like NAGOJI, the icon defaults to the Quadratic Explorer app.

The app has difficulty on the emulator, you have to (for the calc and emu):
1. put the zip file into the app lib
2. unzip the .zip file
3. go to SIFS and drop down the menu to Files and Vars
4. right click the Files tab and click add file
5. put all the .png images into it except the icon.png file (you can only add 1 file at a time so it will take a bit)
6. right click on the SIFS app itself and click add icon
7. use the icon.png file to make the icon
8. For SIFS a bug happens that you have to create a program exactly named "SIFS_PROG_RUN" and leave it.
9. now run the app and it will crach again but now go into the program editor and go into the app's program and press CHECK and it will display "no errors in program" if so next time you run the app it will be fine.

Sorry for the inconvenience but I don't know if it is a bug or if I am doing it wrong :-|... @timwessman !

Thanks for all the help and support I will try a few things but it is getting late :(

EDIT: WHY! no @ work  :banghead:!!

EDIT 2!!!:I think I fixed it but it may be because I formatted it right on the emulator at first but I deleted the app entirely!!! What I did was put all the .png images besides the icon.png onto a folder named "Files" and it should work??? I have a download here, if this works I will post this in the HP Programming help thread ;)

...Plz work...  >:D

THat seems like a crapload of work for the user IMHO. If HP decided to do it that way, then I don't know what to say, but to advise everyone against using apps until that is fixed. In fact, I would suggest that SIFS becomes an .hpprgm for now so that it's not too complicated to install for users.

And your new version doesn't work either. Still shows that graph thing in my screenshot. Also I went to edit the program code from the program menu and it says Syntax error at  line 150.

Maybe @timwessman knows what's up. I also made a topic at http://www.hpmuseum.org/forum/thread-4068.html about it

#pragma mode( separator(.,;) integer(h32) )

//Declare function
SIFS_PROG_RUN();

//Local vars
Local ProgNum; //Prog number to display/edit
....
<snip>

You'll want to put this at the top of your source file.

The pragma line is so that anyone who has different internationalization/integer settings won't have issues. It tells: , is the separator for arguments, . is the separator for mantissa, ; terminates your command statements.

The next part is why the program isn't running. There is a error when trying to compile because the compiler has no idea what SIFS_PROG_RUN() is since you are creating it on runtime (not sure why exactly, haven't looked at the code). Hence, you should declare it as a function earlier and it will run fine.

The reason the icon isn't showing is because it isn't being sent. I went through this process: Unzip to the content directory, drag the zip file to the calculator tree and it was all sent fine. I will investigate if coming directly from a zip is having an issue or something.

Yup I just tried it and all you need to do is unzip the file and BAM it is all good :)

Also there is a updated download here becasue after I uploaded the last ones I realized they had MAJOR bugs that are fixed now :)

Unzip the fie and drag the file to the application directory this should make the app and if this icon (http://i.imgur.com/gXC7msa.png) on the app, if not you did it wrong or my tests were inconclusive :).

Hope this helps :)

Opps, I have to do that but of right now just make a new program with a name with these exact words "SIFS_PROG_RUN" and then execute SIFS (it will still not work) then go to the program menu and open the SIFS(APP) program editor at the top and click check. Now it should work ;)

I will post an update soon so you don't have to do that :)

And some screenshots are coming up also :)

Here is an updated download that should work :)

Also I am going to start with making the AI system because the program editor looks pretty daunting with all the MOUSE() commands I will have to use O.O

EDIT: I forgot to say this: press Symb to run the program. Also this will not work with programs that have EXPORT commands for vars but I know how to fix that and it will be patched :)

Ooh I like the look, so far! The only things, though, is that it seems that the icons area is quite large for the rest of the screen. Maybe it could be reduced in size (with the icons keeping their current size), so that to the right, you can display program descriptions (assuming that is possible to display code from programs in HP PPL, then if the code starts with comments, then it would show those as program description and credits, and if it's not the case, then it shows (no description).

I like the rolling menu by the way. You could add a title such as program library and up/down arrows, with instructions at the bottom. :)

The reason that they are so far over is because I might support custom icons for programs. The description would be a good idea but maybe only display it when a button is pressed or something :). also on the right of the screen I will make a RUN, EDIT, and NEW, maybe more if I get any crazy ideas :P.

Thanks for the help and support - and I really do mean that :)

It was also random in my case. I could probably have that many walruses bounced around the screen myself and not lose much speed, though, since it doesn't require much AI (it might probably even work with pxl-test and a second buffer)

By the way, you know the funny part about HP PPL? Basically, if KermMartian wanted to, he could port Doors CS 6.0 (or maybe even DCS 7.3 or DCSE 8.2 if programs ran in an HP PPL shell can use sub-routines from the shell) to the HP Prime and include most features including launching programs, folders, etc, without even needing a single line of ASM nor C.

Folders would be a nice S.I.F.S feature, by the way :)

When I do get the shell working I won't be 100% effective because if there are arguments in the EXPORT function like this:
EXPORT Test1(Var1,Var2,Var3)
BEGIN
//Code
END;

it will not see the closed parenthesis and pass it by :(

Maybe instead of making it self learning you could make it user taught. This would simplify the coding and it would still be a 'learning' ai.

So when the user says staaap, the AI says sorry, not sorry.

Yeah, what I did with JarvAXE 5.0 was make a whole bunch of statements that could be used in sentences and construct a response that way. With that strategy you would need to make hundreds of possible phrases with ones overlapping and probably making a mess out of the response :(

Nope, it looks like the Mustache stomp where with a good y_dv and some good positionning, Mario can kill an enemy with the second tile.
You lost me :P

But it is cool that it found a glitch that it did not know of :)

Well essentially its just a program that randomly tries to press keys in some order, so given long enough it could probably break the game :P

I have looked into the neural nets more and it might just be possible O.O but before SIFS is released I will have to train him so he will have a chance in this torturous world  :P

Also how does a onscreen keyboard sound for the program editor?

I think the screen would be big enough for it and it would be QWERTY and touch screen so it would feel more natural, right?

You will still be able to type with the regular keyboard on the calc tho :)

Also, will there be program descriptions? This might have been asked before but,oh well. :/

I think it was mentioned before but I forgot about it so thank you that is a good idea :) (you will just put a comment with two times signs after the divide signs and at the end put two times signs and two division signs like this):

//**Info about program**//

Good I dea :)
also I was playing around with it a month or so ago and it wouldn't be that hard to type.

And also I could have a mode on the key board that will allow you to have a list of commonly used commands.

Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System

Yup that would work but I think that I will have it so you can type on both without having to switch to anything (unless you would want to hide the keyboard :))

I plan to have a notifications tab so you can scroll from the top of the screen down and a notifications window will open where you can talk to the AI system or any number of things :)

Since HP PPL most likely doesn't support multi-tasking, I assume that you mean notifications inside the program, not outside, right? What kind of notifications did you have in mind to add besides the AI bot and such stuff?
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System

Maybe a popup that says: Your program is done cooking! :P

Notifications would probably be a calender and or an alarm right?
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on July 07, 2015, 03:21:37 AM
I don't see how an alarm would be possible with no sound. A calendar could be an interesting feature, though. Perhaps Alexgt could allow people to write down important events there and make them a fixed date, reccurrent or stuff like that, while keeping the data small.
Title: Re: S.I.F.S. Super Intelligent Friend System

I guess you could make the alarm change the screen around a ton. Then the calender could be a popup.

I plan to have a button (probably Symb) that puts you into SIFS mode (you are right I cannot run code behind the scenes but I can look for button presses since it is and app, just like you can go into Plot view anywhere on the calc if the app allowa :))
The notifications would probably be a place to chat with the AI bot (that still needs a name) and launch the main SIFS app.

By the way, when you scroll through the programs list, it flickers. You should perhaps use a GROB then only refresh the screen once you have updated the program list. It would also help if you made the current selection more visible, such as with a FILLPOLY rectangle on it.

Yeah I notice quite a bit on-calc. It's generally better to not update the LCD directly, but rather paste everything into a GROB then only paste that GROB on the screen once done. It's not that bad, though, but it would look more professional without the flickering.

And the Prime needs to have people to develop exploits/hacks like Ndless but then HP would start locking down the Prime <_<
It probably depends what kind of hack it is. @Streetwalrus idea at first was to have a bootloader type hack. Instead of launching the OS, it would launch a custom menu where you could run the OS or any ASM/C game/program of your liking. However, if you exited the OS in exam mode, the hack would be made so that you cannot run anything else than the OS from the menu, and that, until you disabled exam mode from the OS itself, and the hack's license would prohibit anyone from releasing forks or updates that tampers directly with the exam mode. But the project was scrapped when Streetwalrus decided to not buy an HP Prime (since he would need one to develop such hack).

Also, since HP PPL is so powerful, many people see such ASM/C hack as useless for game programmers, since we can already do very good games using the built-in language.

There is already a PC thing that converts bitmaps into DIMGROB and ICON formats

No the LCD is cracked but you can still use it and see (part) of the screen :P
If he decides to make HP PPL or C games he could just set the game so that it only displays in a corner of the screen, where the screen works. Otherwise, I think he planned to hook a different LCD to his calc if he ever buys yours. But IIRC he said he would buy it a few months ago so I don't know if he will ever do it :P

I will have to convince my mom to make shiping available out of the US O.O that will be quite dificult <_<

I wonder if it's really that complicated to ship something outside USA? I know that Omni had issues with shipping prizes for the 2013 contest, but didn't it involve issues with shipping batteries? IIRC batteries had to be inside the device in order to be shipped, not outside, so the HP Prime would be fine, right?

So like, the cost of the package has to be under 25? Or is it the cost to send the package has to be under 25? That shouldn't be tooo hard to do.....

i dunno, maybe that was on some site. It probably uses weight or package dimensions. Anyway you have to keep it under some standard else you need to pay a ridiculous amount of customs <_<
