There was a trick back in the days to create an account without a credit card. It's really annoying that you need an apple account just to use a computer.

I use redshift on my desktop and CM's built in equivalent on my phone. It's pretty effective, and kinda annoying that I can't use it on my tablet because it makes the display so laggy because there's no hardware to back it up unlike on my phone (my phone has color control in the LCD driver). <_<
Thankfully, Twilight on my phone (which I just re-installed) doesn't cause much lag it seems and it's pretty nice.

Also it's a shame that new Windows/Mac OSes tries to force you to create an account just to use the OS. I am 100% sure that it's MS/Apple's stepping-stone into forcing people to get an account. As for Apple requiring a credit card even when not needing one, yes I ran into that issue once. >.<

Also, to people who hate Eclipse, remember one thing, though: Sam Heald, the popular creator of many TI-83 games and ports, was involved in its development around 2003. Regardless of if you like Eclipse or not, you should at least recognize it for that. :P

Oh cool. I remember that you had to go on itunes and try to download a free app then accept to register an account and then it didn't force you to add a credit card. That was somewhere in 2008 or 2009 though (when I got my ipod touch 2g).

Well then, that option was better hidden than Windows's "no account" option, because I didn't set up any account for Windows but I made one for OS X :P
And still, even without paying, it still requires an account, while Windows may try to convince you but doesn't force you to have one.

In 2012-14, it depended of which country you lived in. In Canada I was forced to have a credit card unless I just entered a gift card number, but by then, in USA it was possible to do it without needing a gift card number. I don't know about now.

Windows 8 introduced the same bullshloop by almost forcing you to have an ms account. :P It's not easy to find the option to continue without one, and most people will end up creating yet another email they don't have any use for.
Well, I just installed Windows 8(.1) today for at least the third time in my life (I have three PCs with that on them so at least 3 times, but maybe more since I might have started some installations several times) and I didn't see that option. I never had to enter/create a MS account, at any moment.

Maybe it got changed due to complaints and death threats?

Lol, do people really send death threats for that ? :P
Well, I don't think so because as I said, it's the third computer on which I install Win8 (and for the two other ones, I know I had to start over several times) and I really don't remember doing anything to avoid something as annoying as using a MS account.
Or maybe it was at the very very early beginnings of Win 8 then.

(However, I saw a lot of "spying" options in the Win8 setup so the claim that Win10 is a spy might not be more true for 10 than for 8).

Archbang didn't work and I didn't liked it, so I went for normal arch Linux.
I am quite happy with it and plan setting up my own window manager and desktop environment.
