I'm very much into the two first albums of Rings of Saturn lately. It's a technical death metal band, often regarded as one of the bands with the hardest songs to play on any instrument. Being kind of a fretboard psychopath myself, it's very much my thing :P

What the damn hell (literally). *.* That music is absolute slaughter for my ears matref, I didn't know you were into that. x)
Thanks for pointing out the last song of the second album actually, I like it a lot.

Dream of Omnimaga

I actually like death metal as well as black metal, but only the melodic stuff and preferably the stuff where the time signature and BPM don't change every 3 second like in Dream Theater. Amon Amarth, Aeternam and Dissection are examples of what I would listen to.

Also the following song sounds strangely familiar :P

I cannot stand death metal. I like all the other forms of metal a ton, though.

Dream of Omnimaga

Is it due to the vocals or more the music? In my case I don't mind growls, although I don't like being unable to understand what they are saying, but one criteria required for me to like a song is melody.

Did you check out the instrumental at the end of Dingir ? It sounds a lot more like heavy metal, so there's a melody.

And same here, I don't like death metal because of the lack of melody. Thrash metal (eg Metallica) is the lowest I can go. :P

I'm gonna see a lot of different people and groups live soon.

Tomorrow, I'm gonna see Which Ones Pink (a pink floyd cover band) play at the Canyon Club. (edit: wow, they were really accurate. The only thing that was really super off was the line "You! Yes! You behind the bikesheds! Stand still, laddie!" at the beginning of Another Brick in the Wall part 2 'cause the lead singer didn't have a Scottish accent.)
On December 26th, I'm going to the Canyon Club again to see Smash Mouth.
Some time in March of next year, I'm gonna see David Gilmour play. (probably at The Forum)
In April, I'm gonna be seeing Iron Maiden (also at The Forum).

Am excited.

Edit: forgot to mention I'm also seeing Black Sabbath in February.

I can understand that. Yet, there are some death metal bands with lots of melodies:

I'll just dump some J-Mi & Midi-D songs here, they're making pretty good DDR songs.
