Title: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 02, 2015, 12:21:39 PM
Have you seen this? :O http://e3.nintendo.com/games/wiiu/mario-maker/

Looks like Nintendo decided to start making their own level editing things and it's called Mario Maker. Basically it lets you make your own Mario levels. It has been possible since ages via ROM hacking and homebrew software but now Nintendo will have their own thing. I wonder if it will come out outside Japan, unlike F-Zero Climax and F-Zero X Expansion Kit?

EDIT: I should add levels CW users made to the first post. Here are mine:

Compared to level editors, like Lunar Magic, this one feels pretty empty...

It will probably be much more user-friendly than Lunar Magic, though. User-friendliness == consoderably larger audience. I probably won't use it that much if it's way too limited or expensive, though.

We're talking about a 21th century Nintendo product, sure that will be pretty user-friendly! :p

EDIT : I remember the layout : it's just a grid and you tap/draw where the blocks will be, can't do easier! :p

Lunar magic required some programming or more tech savy stuff at timea, though. Also stop trolling pl0x <_<
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo
Post by: Duke "Tape" Eiyeron on March 02, 2015, 10:44:39 PM
I'm not trolling at all. Oh and by the way, if u remember correctly, one can use NSMB tileset or original SMB, but with some extras I don't remember which.
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 02, 2015, 11:23:07 PM
Ah ok because it seemed like you were using the typical ASM/low level language/software elitist mentality when stating your points above and a while ago on the forums when you insisted non-stop that I make Illusiat PRIZM in C x.x. And yeah I saw that. I wonder if we will be able to use other tiles such as SMB3? It seems heavily based on SMB1, though, so I think the game will mostly include power ups from the original NSMB on Nintendo DS.

I only insisted to give you an occasion to learn a language and have much more flexibility in the device. But i ain't push you anymore. Don't worry. ;)

Let's hope that SMB3's tileset will be given in a free update and not DLC.

Honnestly, an editor with different complexity levels could have been awesome. I'm not going to talk about Lunar Magic's complexity (heh, you could get away without any ASM but that's not the discussion) but think of the tools/objects that are on NSMB, SMW or SMB3 and that they would add them in the game with or without custom components like triggers or colors. For the kids or the *casual* level editor,  only the simple kit could be enough and it would switch to advanced when one would like to have full control on the system.

What about free DLC? It's Nintendo, not EA/Ubisoft.
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo

Yeah they dipped their toe into paid DLC, for instance in Mario Kart 8, so I'm afraid they will be dragged on by the Paymoar sharks and turn then into a new Ubisoft...

I am hoping it won't be a DLC either, because I am betting everyone wanting to play SMB3 levels will need to buy the DLC too. I would be OK if developers don't need to, though, although my levels would still be less popular.

Good news: Super Mario Maker will also support Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World levels! *.* http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/i7YeZxnWhEFX6ST-sLdUBGmLoZivzNP5

I was worried that it would just feature flower and big mario and the star as power ups and that SMM would just be a clone of TI-83+ Super Mario editor, but it seems like maybe we will have more freedom, after all. I'm definitively gonna use the SMB3 features a lot.

Well, you bought the first version? Here's the newest with moar blocks.

No it's not a free update, it's a new game.

Well played, Nintendo, I hope you won't fall into an EA-like release cycle.

But yeah, for PC users and SMW fans, there is Lunar Magic which allow you to edit SMW levels to a big extent (you can only reach more edition power by hacking with ASM)

It actually hasn't been released yet. I also knew about the other game styles being included for a while. It's actually a really interesting program and I can't wait till it comes out (Sept 11th). In addition to basically being like a multi game rom hacking tool, it adds new interactions between objects and from what I can tell lets you mix and match stuff from different generations.

I was supposed to get it... until I learned that it launched at $70. I'm gonna wait until price goes down unless I have a lot of spare money in the near future (I thought it would launch at $40-50 due to being mostly retro-related, like Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, God of War HD, Windwaker HD, etc).

Is it possible to link to previews of your creations online by the way? It would be fun to share our creations here so that it's easier to find what community members here created. :)

Wtf at the price. O.O I definitely don't want to pay this much for a level editor lol.
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on September 14, 2015, 03:00:29 PM
Yeah my issue is that normally, retro, indie and remasters comes out at much lower price, yet SMM is the price of a brand new next gen game like SSB4 or MK8. With all the custom Mario level editors out there (Lunar Magic, MEDIT.8xp, etc) available for free (although having a ROM copy without owning the game is not legal), I wouldn't be surprised if certain people who don't mind something less user-friendly went for free alternatives.

Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo

I have made some levels but since I started, I can't use all blocks and enemies, so I am kinda limited for now. I have unlocked some stuff and my 2nd level (which is 1-3 in my saves) ended up being quite hard for me O.O (although the beginning is easy if you run for your life). There are full of giant pirahna plants flying out of pipes everywhere near the end, along with koopas.

I need to make a level where those cloud enemy things shoots plants instead of spiny enemies O.O

Now if only it wasn't for risks of innapropriate content, Nintendo could probably add a feature allowing players to add 1 custom sprite to the game and maybe there could be a :walrii:

Why can't you use all the blocks and enemies? I thought that with a game like this, everything would be unlocked...
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo

They made it so that we have to play it and do some objectives to unlock stuff over time, like achievements I guess.
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo
Post by: alexgt on December 10, 2015, 03:30:10 AM
that is kinda stupid if you ask me, a game where you build levels but stuff is locked. Imagine minecraft like that O.O
Title: Re: Mario Maker from Nintendo
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 10, 2015, 06:32:14 AM
They made it like that to get people to play longer and not go straight for the insane blocks. Else, the game would be flooded with levels with 200 giant bowsers and plenty of fireworks and 1-ups by kids.

Those are my levels by the way so far:
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkrvpD3Gg (266B-0000-0112-C0FB)
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkrvFVNLg (E46D-0000-0112-BE52)
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkrveQ6KA (492E-0000-0112-BD66)
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkrxVKh_A (AEEB-0000-0112-D79E)

The first one is ridiculously easy until the end since some cloud enemy thing is throwing piranha plants. The second one is medium-ish, the third involves lots of giant plants flying out of pipes so it's quite hard until you figure out the way. The fourth one is insane due to the massive blooper enemy invasion and you must not lose your flower power ups.

Thumbnails don't do the level justice, though. In the game you see a mini-map of the entire level.

Yeah I was just saying. I wonder if we can take screenshots from a Wii U...

EDIT: YAY! I unlocked Super Mario Bros 3 and castle stuff. I also unlocked some sky stuff it seems, but not all. The trick to unlock stuff faster is to play everyday at first but also use as many blocks as possible, while spending at least 5 minutes making each level.

And I made another level, this time a SMB3 castle one, which is quite hard https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkr9H-Pkg (3EA4-0000-0114-1391)

I also added my levels to the first post.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 15, 2015, 05:19:58 AM
I made two more:

CW Mysterious Area (SMB3) https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHksrmy9qA (F545-0000-011B-00D8)
CW Over 9000 Monsterz (SMW) https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHksrRrluQ (26DD-0000-011A-F638)

Unfortunately, SMM limits players to 10 online levels at a time it seems (for now), so eventually I'll have to delete some levels. I'll probably remove the less popular ones, so if you have the game, then you should try the above levels before it's too late. :P

thanks, it seems you are not alone either, as it's my only level with comments. :P This is why when I reach the 10 uploads limit that I am reluctant about removing it, even though it's quite bad. I saw much worse levels in the 100 level challenge, though (often 1 screen large). Some are very creative, though.

I was thinking about having a vertical level that is short but being a maze of blocks it would still be a bit long and hard. And now I just made a ship level using SMW and it's called CW Yoshi Abuse (58D3-0000-011C-2A57)

CW Evil Ship (F331-0000-011C-2DDC) https://d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/WVW69iqehGw9haktXp
CW Yoshi Abuse (58D3-0000-011C-2A57) -I hope PETA won't sue me :P https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHks2Y6KaQ

Those who have the game should download CW Stock up before it's too late and CW Goomba Invasion before it's too late, because I'm gonna delete them to free up some slots for new uploads

Maybe @Art_of_camelot  and myself should rate each other's levels and stuff to eventually unlock the limit. :P

Start: 10 Levels
50 Stars: 20 Levels
150 Stars: 30 Levels
300 Stars: 40 Levels
500 Stars: 50 Levels
800 Stars: 60 Levels
1300 Stars: 70 Levels

And IIRC, deleted levels won't erase your stars.

I wonder if @tr1p1ea has the game? He's a big Nintendo fan.

By the way, the max time limit for levels is 500 seconds (which are real seconds, so 8 minutes and 20 seconds)

The original ones are a must if you can get them. :) The first SMB is simple but still fun to play after years and it's less than $10 most of the time with Duck Hunt included. But being able to create your own level this easily is just amazing.

I know we could do it before using hacks and tools, but the problem is that they were much harder to use compared to SMM.

Hehe. What I want to try next is a music level experiment, but not one where all you do is run or move on a platform. I would rather have one where you can actually do stuff. I don't know if that's possible, though. Here is what some people made O.O

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gazGSgAp4X4

I also wonder how many notes can be played at a time, since I would rather have 1 bass line and drum loop at least :P

THat's good. By the way I think your level has a 0% completion rate. O.O

Also all my levels have a completion rate of under 25%. Would that mean that they are flagged as expert levels? Because I heard that 75% is easy, 50% is normal and 25% expert.

Post by: TIfanx1999 on December 26, 2015, 09:40:23 PM
At some point I'll have to post some of my levels here. I think mine have pretty low completion rates as well, but they aren't really that hard tbh.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 26, 2015, 10:32:32 PM
It might be because they require a special strategy to be completed and becomes easy once you figure out the trick.

Also @Art_of_camelot I sent you a friend request on Wii U a few days ago :P
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: TIfanx1999 on December 28, 2015, 05:16:01 AM
@DJ Omnimaga I played through a lot of your levels, and beat most of them. I have a few left to try out still. I was the first one to beat CW fortress of doom, so I'm pretty happy about that. I'll also have to look tomorrow and see if I can figure out how to accept that friend request.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 28, 2015, 10:37:53 PM
Nice and congrats. Fortress of Doom can be nasty, because if you lose your mushroom, then good luck surviving the spikes at the top of the map, and then there's a small lava pit which is hard to jump over because the roof is so low and losing your mushroom again there will make it hard to cross the hammer bros.

To accept friend requests, press the home button and you'll get optionz such as Friends abd Miiverse.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: TIfanx1999 on December 28, 2015, 10:55:25 PM
I already figured the friend thing out. The spikes were a bit bothersome, but I was actually able to get through the either big or small without hitting any of them (though it did take a bit of practice). ;) The hammer bros at the end were the biggest PITA. I kept screwing up on the jump before them, or messed up after. I finally figured out the best way to get past them. *edit* I'm not sure how to do a friend request though, only how to accept one.

I have made a new level :D

CW Trap Fest (SMW)
(8DAD-0000-0178-7960)
https://miiverse.nintendo.net/posts/AYMHAAACAAADVHkyURdcsA

Note that big wall in the screenshot. You start inside it (for some reasons, Super Mario Maker lets you do that). Basically, just jump your way up through it (it will jump by 1 block instantly each time), but do not crouch! And then what follows is more spike madness with a cloud and clown copter. Also beware of the P switch. :P
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on January 07, 2016, 04:57:05 AM
Update: I have now uploaded two more levels: CW Monster Speedway and CW Vertical Maze:

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/profile/DJ_Omnimaga (yes, this exists, apparently. Good way to share your levels without having to edit your posts I guess. Course IDs are inside the URL of each course)

CW Monster Speedway was finished when I uploaded CW Trap Fest, but I didn't have time to beat it. It's easier than my other levels, but enemies arrive very fast and there's also a very long jump to do in the 2nd part.

CW Vertical Maze is much older, but I didn't upload it until now. It's just two screen high and one screen large, but it takes a while to beat since it's a small maze and there are slow moving enemies.

Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 08, 2016, 06:48:31 PM
I think it has to do with the demographics of Nintendo gaming. Since the Wii came out, Nintendo tried to cater mainly to kids, family-friendly games and casual gamers, so the median age is much lower. As  a result, many Mario levels that are medium or hard for us retro-gamers will be impossible for kids and younger people, especially the levels that requires thinking. Not that kids can't think, but at 6-8 years old, kids probably only learned the basics of Mario. If they can't beat SMB1 8-4, SMB2J 8-2, 8-4, SMB3 6-5 or access the Special world in Super Mario World, then they're gonna have an hard time beating most Mario Maker levels.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on February 08, 2016, 11:40:43 PM
I just made a new level, while playing several of the official levels to unlock the special SMB1 power-ups :)

https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/6677-0000-01C2-F88C

It starts right next to the end, but there's a catch. The end is blocked by invisible blocks, so you have to go through the pipe, which leads to a big turtle. You must kick it to destroy the blocks that blocks the way. Later in the level there are giant twomps you can't see, so you have to be careful (they fall through the blocks so it leaves holes behind). At the end of the level there are about 90 spinning ghost circles stacked in one spot and a star power up so if you want to get 100 lives in 1 seconds then that is your occasion (yes, I am serious. I don't think there is a faster way to rack up lives). The level is relatively eeasy compared to my other levels, but still has a low completion rate for some reasons. Perhaps people didn'T figure out that big turtle shells can destroy other stuff than brick blocks? :P

By the way, anyone knows how to check why our levels get removed? For example, my Trap Fest level got deleted but I can't figure out why (although I assume it's because it abuses a glitch)

EDIT: Wow @ordelore the level you posted is near impossible to beat O.O. I could beat your Risks level, though (nice level btw)

Well, at 14 I am still am a teenager, but I would rather consider myself as an intermediate player. I completed thje damn hard bNew Super Luigi U with 5/5 stars on the save file. On New Super Mario Bros. U, I have only three, but I only need to complete 9-8, 9-6 and 9-9 :p Same in Super Mario 3D World, I have 4 save file stars, I "only" need to complete W Crown-Mystery House, and the m***** f**** hard W Crown-Crown, Champion's road, wich is certainly in the top 5 most difficult levels of all Mario History (even though I'm sure to never finish it in my entire life)  :P Perhaps Mario games since the NDS revival in 2005 are less difficult, but Nintendo has manage to produce 6 levels that will remainb for a while in the top 10 most hard Mario levels all more time, which are SMG2 Star 242 (The Perfect Run), SM3DL World S8-Crown, SM3DW World Crown-Crown (Champion's Road) and NSMB2 Impossible pack DLC levels 1-2-3. SMM Super Expert levels are a joy next to these 6. Just try them.
If you want, I prepare the coffin
But I should soon buy SMM for my 15-y.o. birthday and see what is my real level in Mario games...
To be continued...

I really need to finish the newer games. I am in world 4 in NSMBWii and NSMBU I think. The new games are easy in general, but on the Wii U they ramped up the difficulty a bit, which is good I guess since we no longer end up with 90 lives after finishing one world. I mostly grew up with SMB3 and SMW.
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: GalacticPirate on March 11, 2016, 08:58:48 PM
By the way, you should also try the best NSMBWii hack ever, Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii, which is not downloadable without the real disk (the paradox is that you still must get the hack). They did an entire new map one new power up, and tons of more difficult levels. It's quite inspired of SMW but with even more fun :p

There is now an update available for SMM adding a key item like in Super Mario World and pink coins to make it appear. I don't know if it's paid DLC, free DLC or just an update, though:

Well, this is a free update :p For Wii hacking, I was just saying you can't legally play it on an emu, but you can 'hack' your Wii without risking anything. It uses RiiVolution, a software which allows on-disc games to be modded :p
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 22, 2016, 06:47:01 PM
Yeah I know about Riivolution. It seemed tedious to install MKWii custom tracks, though.

As for Mario Maker, thanks for the info. I wonder if one day they'll add the ability to upload full worlds of 4 stages each, to increase the worthiness of thr 1-up mushroom...

Then I doubt I will be able to beat it. I wonder how much harder it is than CW Castle of Doom, though. So far, that level still has only been beaten one time, by @Art_of_camelot , out of over 200 tries. I have another level that has only been beaten once, but it has fewer plays. I don't think I have any level with a completion rate of over 10%.

I really want to get into SMM again soon. I noticed they added new items. Something I wish is that they added those green apples that added extra time to the timer in SMW, so we could do extremely long door levels with checkpoints. It would almost be an adventure game into one level lol.

But then it might piss off people who are doing the 100 level challenges

So apparently, Super Mario Maker will be released for the 3DS in December: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/09/nintendo-announces-3ds-versions-of-pikmin-super-mario-maker/

However, I feel it's kinda pointless if it lacks online level sharing capabilities like the article states. Basically you have to share them with your friends or nearby 3DS users via Streetpass. Most levels I played on SMM Wii U were online, which IMHO is one of the best thing on the Wii U version.

What I think is that when the NX will come out, the 3DS and Wii U will either lose online capabilities or be replaced with remodeled 3DS/Wii U Mini that lacks online support and backwards compatibility with DS/Wii physical titles, or that the NX will replace the 3DS outright. EDIT: Another possibility is that maybe the NX will support Wii U titles and the Wii U will be discontinued, but not the 3DS, and that to lure customers towards the NX, they dumbed down the 3DS version of SMM.

I'm thinking more that Nintendo hired game designers and testers from Stellar Stone (the guys who made Big Rigs)

Because I made some new courses.

I think the methods and mechanics I use in these are pretty creative. Perhaps someone else can use them for more polished levels. Tell me what you think!

Name: Mario Kart: Boo! Mario's Mansion
ID: 1091-0000-02CC-EC6A
A quick little Mario Kart stage, using the SMB theme and the Super Mario Kart costume.
Methods/Mechanics: Unskippable 3-second timer at start, unskippable lap counter that allows you to leave after 3 laps

Name: Music: It's A Secret To Everyone
ID: 06E1-0000-02D2-4C3F
A demonstration of a triggered theme, which plays once the puzzle has been completed. The theme, by the way, is the Zelda Secret theme.
Methods/Mechanics: Custom music upon reaching a certain x-coordinate

Name: Pacifist: Don't...Shoot!
ID: 1324-0000-02D2-DE51
A (poorly executed) concept stage designed around one idea: don't kill anything,
Methods/Mechanics: Mechanism at end of stage that does not allow you to leave with a key

Name: Don't Tap Left: Go The Right Way
ID: 26CE-0000-02D7-99FE
A proof-of-concept for a mechanic that instantly kills you/makes the level impossible upon looking left.
Methods/Mechanics: P-Switch trigger upon looking left, POW Block trigger upon going past a certain point
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on December 26, 2016, 09:12:46 AM
I only played the one where you must not press left and the idea is epic. I didn't realize such course was possible. I beat it btw :3=

I really need to make new levels but I can only publish 10 :/ (I still need about 15 stars iirc)

EDIT: JWinslow23 darn, Panic Don't shoot is hard x.x (I beat it but it took me ages because of that stupid Hammer Bros and me falling down)
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!
Post by: JWinslow23 on December 30, 2016, 02:27:13 AM
Name: Enemy Factory: The Hybrid Koopa!
ID: 511E-0000-02DF-242A
A demonstration of a cool little glitch (does not affect gameplay, it is essentially a visual glitch, so Nintendo might be kind to this one :P ), but turned into a small boss battle.
Methods/Mechanics: Positioning/timing of Koopa shells in such a way that creates the appearance of two Unshelled Koopas entering one Koopa shell
Title: Re: Share your Super Mario Maker level codes!

Name: Billboard Top 5, week of Jan. 14
ID: 88E4-0000-02EA-FF09
A level based on the current top 5 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, which are, in order, Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd ft Gucci Mane, Bad and Boujee by Migos ft Lil Uzi Vert, Closer by The Chainsmokers ft Halsey, Starboy by The Weeknd ft Daft Punk, and 24K Magic by Bruno Mars
Methods/Mechanics: Complicated (and I do mean complicated) arrangements of note blocks on tracks. Seriously, it was hard in the Zelda secret theme level, and it was especially hard here! You would not want to do this :P

I wonder if maybe I got a little carried away with the length or difficulty, but there were just so many concepts I wanted to try out. So if anyone happens to try it and wants to give feedback/criticism, feel free. :)

I plan to try out other levels posted here once I get a chance; they sound interesting!

Because I made some new courses.

I think the methods and mechanics I use in these are pretty creative. Perhaps someone else can use them for more polished levels. Tell me what you think!

Those are pretty creative! How did you come up with them?

I liked "Don't Tap Left". It took a few tries to wrap my head around it, but I soon got the hang of it. Same with the Mario Kart level; I was a little confused at first when I thought I was going in circles, but when I remembered the Mario Kart theme, I got the idea that it was keeping track of laps. That's pretty cool. Haven't yet managed to get through "Pacifist: Don't...Shoot" without killing anything yet (unfortunately, the enemies didn't themselves bother reading the name of the level). :P

Studying the levels to figure out how the mechanics work is fun, too, because the first thing I wondered is how you did that. :)

I want to port some of my old levels  to Oiram CE at one point. I am sure some can be adapted.
