Other / Re: The Google Doodle Thread
May 04, 2016, 02:09:24 AM
A brand new wooden pencil is at the maximum length it will ever be. Through general usage, it gradually whittles down to a point. Size decreases with time, inevitably. As SpongeBob SquarePants (a cartoon character) once remarked, "As my ideas grow, you shrink." In today's Doodle, however, the "teacher" pencil is longer than the "student" pencils.  Growthwise, the short pencils have nowhere to go. Why would they learn? How could the clearly less utilized pencil be the leader of the group?

It will go away tomorrow, though, and something else will take the Doodle's place .

The pencils in today's Google Doodle may lead some bizarre Benjamin Button backwards-aging type existence if the longer, newer pencil is leading shorter ones.

Or it is just to commemorate Teacher's Day.

Having a license that changes based on arbitrary percentages of code utilized seems rather complicated and open to abuse.

Today's doodle celebrates the 162nd birthday of Hertha Marks Ayrton, British scientist.

(not in Canada, though)

Pokemon - recognized by the Japanese public in 2000 as the country's eight greatest invention.

Where would it rank now?

Somewhat unrelatedly, what are some major calculator incarnations of the series?

Interesting motivation for the creation of this project. If I had to guess, most educational programs are probably made by programmers for their own educational ends.

With Graph3DC, the ticalc.org logo can be recreated... in color.

This looks quite interesting and fun. I especially like the title screen.

This is sad. I've been a  Bowie fan for a few years.

He was the Nazz.

Media Talk / Re: Star Wars Episode VII, who's going?

I am not very familiar with the Expanded Universe. It seemed rather grand in scope. I really enjoyed Episode 7, though, and I imagine that what was released was at least as good as an adaptation of some already-published stories.

I too use Apple's EarPods. The case that came with them was quite stylish.

I also use speakers (which are not directly in my ears), but that is probably outside the scope of this thread.

I know that Super Mario Galaxy is great, based off of personal experience. So is Kirby's Epic Yarn, actually, but that one isn't very long. Another good game is GoldenEye 007, which supports GameCube controls and has all sorts of people to shoot (no online anymore, though split screen remains.)

TI-Chess ( http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/116/11606.html ) for the TI-89 has a CPU (which, according to the reviews, is somewhere between incredibly easy and impossible) and source code, along with puzzles and other features. Perhaps the 10th most downloaded file of ticalc.org's history might hold to the key to creating a CPU for your chess program on the TI Nspire (a calculator I do not have.)

Very interesting... there is a Kindle Fire in my house that has been almost unused since it was acquired. Perhaps I should use that to venture into the Amazon Underground.
The permissions don't seem too devious. They are probably just for advertising purposes (like Facebook) or technical reasons.

For developers, it seems that Amazon has required that in all other stores, the "free" application costs money. Developers are also paid a tidy .2 American cents ($.002) per minute of app usage.

I had to load some unsafe scripts to see the How It Should Have Ended videos, but the CollegeHumor one just showed up normally. What did I do wrong? (Am I even allowed to bring that up on a thread like this?)
I fixed your posts, the youtube mods we have are utter crap, if the link isn't properly formatted it won't work.

Thank you. Was it that I used the shortened (".be") link instead of the full (".com") one?
