Okeyyy, I recently bought the following:
1 gamecube in a good shape with 1 original controller for 50€
1 gamecube in a rather bad shape but with 3 controllers for 70€
(it did make sense as 1 controller usually costs 30-40€ and I wanted to have 4)

So now I ended up with 2 gamecubes (whic hare apparently both in a good shape, no idea what the warning text was about), 2 sets of cables and 4 controllers. yay...
My problem is: for one of the controllers the DOWN is permanently pressed (at least it acts as if, no matter what I do). I guess it can be fixed especially since it's a rather old piece of hardware...
Any good tips before I simply try to open it up and see what's inside? :)

Is it the joystick rather than the d-pad that is the problem @p2 ? On old Nintendo consoles, always make sure that the joystick is placed right in the middle when the console gets turned ON, else it will act as if the current joystick position is the center. The Gamecube seems at much higher risk of doing that, though, and I found that playing with the joystick a bit then turning the console back on can fix it, but not all the time.

Or you can buy a replacement, preferably the Wii U version of the Gamecube gamepad if it's cheaper.

I'll try moving it around. Maybe it was even really that causing the problem (pressing it at boot). If that's the case, I'm super happy :D
Thx for the advise @DJ Omnimaga

Yeah, if it doesn't work you cana always open it up to see if something is stuck in there and give it a good cleaning.

well the controller looked normal, nothing seemed to be broken or loose, it's just that it acts as if it was pressed all the time. But maybe I was accidentally pressing the little joystick while booting, I'll try that out this evening :)
but two other controllers (that work perfectly) seem to have loose parts as they make funny sounds when I shake them xD

Even if you doN't hold the joystick, this might still happen, slightly. Try to hold the joystick in the opposite direction the cursor is moving in, release it gently then boot the console to see if it fixes it.
