Dillema about skin background color

So I worked a bit on the forum theme last night, the hardest part being figuring out how to center the logo (something unusual on a SMF forum) and the theme is far from finished. However, I was unsure about what background color to choose around the site. Currently it's dark turquoise or something, but would people prefer something different and what? What I know, though, is that using the same green as the inner logo green looked ugly, though, and a gray-ish green looks more like an hospital su...

No we don't have that many guests online

Since the last few months, there have been either an influx of bots crawling the forums, a small number of bots changing their IP address every three second while crawling CW or both. This resulted into ridiculously high numbers showing up in the online users section. To reflect our real population, a new category of user has been created¨: Other bots, which now includes the aforementioned bots. We normally average around 30 real users online within a 30 minute span. Online: 260 Guests, 1 ...

Temporary shoutbox installed

Because the IRC bot that acts as a Discord<>IRC bridge has been banned from the entire EFNet network, the site shoutbox no longer works properly. Until the bot can connect again on EFNet, we have installed TitanEmbeds. It's unknown if it will work for everyone, but for now it's better than no shoutbox at all I guess.

HELP US SAVE CW. AT ALL COST!

Hello, beloved CodeWalrus community.I have been with you almost since the beginning of this site.Over the years, I have met a lot of interesting people here, that I still have contact to.I have also found good friends that are more than just online friends. It's really sad to see the community slowly die because of the lack of activity and honestly some stupid administrative decisions here. Now, it's time to deddicate some time back to CodeWalrus and keep the community alive. People, just go to ...

Killing HTTP support on CodeWalrus (site would become HTTPS-only)

So in order to increase security on CW, disabling access via HTTP is being considered. However, many of our users are forced (either due to financial difficulties or restrictive parents) to use old computers or phones that cannot be upgraded to browsers with better SSL and certificate support, and we want the site to be reachable for all our users. So we wanted to ensure that the site was fully functional on old Android versions, such as Android 2.2.2. It appears that the site, despite a certifi...

CodeWalrus status update: SMF 2.0 => PhpBB 3.2 at the horizon

An update on CodeWalrus' status and upcoming changes:-Based on Juju's life schedule and mine (all of which is explained in two topics located in the access-restricted safe-haven sub-forum), CodeWalrus has most likely been saved at this point.-No matter if things in Juju's life go haywire or not, the Discord, Telegram and IRC channels are here to stay.-We are switching to PhpBB 3.2 software. This is our final weeks as a SMF 2.0 website.-We will also attempt to merge the TIMGUL archives into CodeW...

Bugs with the site.

I've noticed a few bugs recently right now I can only remember 2 but I'll probably remember eventually.WalrusIRC won't show up. This happens when I am logged in for a long time, I'm guessing that this an issue with SMF.I also can't vote on polls (only tried one so it might be isolated to that poll). As an added issue. Gmail has started calling the forum updates spam.

The future of Codewalrus

Nobody seems to give rats about the forums anymore. If you check weekly stats I had over 44% of the entire board posts since November 20th and pretty much any attempt  by me at generating interest, either by participating or by branching out (for example, news articles about non-calculator games) have been futile.  It's not because of school because I see 65 people logged in every week and IRC is pretty active. We originally opened as a forum to hang out and have fun, while discussing our favorit...

[suggestion] Walrii Tokens

Walrii tokens are things that c4ooo was talking about, I just took the idea a step further!Walrii tokens are like reputation points but better. You start with 100, and people can give you some, and you can give other people some.Say DJ created a really cool game. I could give him, say, 5 walrii tokens. Assuming we both had 100, he would then have 105, and me 95.But, to prevent people from cheating the system, you can only give a max of 20 walrii tokens per day. You can also ...

Featured projects section cleanup

So it has been a long while since we last made any updates to the featured projects section, and I feel that some newer projects might deserve a spot there. However, to avoid cluttering the place, I was considering movinng some of the inactive or finished projects in the calc projects sub-forum, along with Herocore, in a new section there.Do you think, however, that notable finished projects should remain where they are, though? For example, First Fantasy was supposed to have sequels, but they'r...

Posting Improvements

As many have already noticed, posts on community websites are posting. This is not a horrible thing because IRC activity and downloads numbers are raising. People simply want an easier and faster way to communicate their ideas, however; this leads to the decline of posting. IRC is great, but users can't really share projects and other bigger things on IRC.Enough talk of that, everyone should hopefully understand that.I'm proposing that we lessen the complexity of posting. A large majority of peo...

Making forum skin mobile-friendly

Responsive forum skin is a feature that is coming in SMF 2.1 by default, but currently we have SMF 2.0 and probably until a while after SMF 2.1 goes gold. Some people have troubles using SMF 2.0 default theme on mobile computers and the one we are using right now is heavily based on SMF default. I don't want users to have to switch between two themes if they want to have a mobile one, and I would prefer that the site colors and style looks identical on mobile devices, as in  not use some stock i...

Forum reply notifications glitch

It has come to my attention that several members have started receiving notifications for replies in topics they posted in a week ago. This is most likely due to a bug with SMF 2.0.xx theme config in the admin panel.A week ago or so, board notifications have been set to be enabled by default for all future member accounts (can be disabled at will), while existing accounts were set to remain untouched by those changes.
