My Nokia E63's screen somehow managed to break, so now I'm phoneless. It was non-touchscreen, and had a full QWERTY keyboard packed into a tiny space. Hated that. I love touchscreen phones, but I also hate the onscreen keyboard, except for the ones that have that glide-type feature on the Amazon Fire Phone and HTC phones with HTC Sense Input.

I dunno. I really liked the Amazon Fire Phone's ability to create words by sliding your finger from letter to letter.
To me, that's way better than tapping each letter one by one. I don't like staccato.

And the Nokia phone broke because it fell from my hand to a locker room floor that has been the same for almost a century. (My school was built sometime after WWII)

I tend to prefer physical keypads as long as it's a full one, not a numpad. Much easier to type. >.<

As for sliding-based typing, I think I wouldn't mind, but only on phablets.

how do you think about voice input? more and more devices tend to rely on that...

Travis

I tried the slide-based typing/Swype thing on a Kindle Fire a couple of times, and it's actually kind of impressive. I wouldn't have guessed something like that would work so well, almost as if it's reading my mind sometimes.

I'm still partial to physical keyboards, though. ;) I feel faster with them, and it's possible to learn to feel for the keys so you can use them without having to stop and look down every time (and accidentally tap the wrong thing because there's no tactile separation between targets on a touchscreen).

Anyone remember Graffiti with the Palm handhelds? Letters/characters were entered with gestures, sort of like handwriting. If the detection were really good, that might work well in theory (maybe even without having to look down), but I haven't seen anything like that in a while.

great idea: let'S create a touchscreen that looks like a chocolate bar so you can actually FEEL the keys while it's still a touch phone! *feels like genius*

detection of handwritings suck... <_< Dont know if its my handwriting or yjust the computers... but mine never gets detected properly :P
Had such systems in school and I basically couldnt use them as they didnt work for me :/

Physical keys will always be better and faster to type with. (A lot of the time spent when typing on a touchscreen keyboards is correcting mistakes.

My issue with phablets though is that they often don't fit in your pant pockets. If you dare putting it in a pocket then it is prone to bending. I hate walking around and having to carry my phone in my hands at any time or something like that.

Ugh, I hated how some teachers made people restart their exam from scratch or gave a score of zero if our handwriting was considered bad to them. >.<

EDIT: THat or bank/government/other forms to fill that were paper-based. By grade 2 we got used to write with our letters all tied together (not sure of the word in English) rather than separate from each others, but those documents required us to write using separate letters, including lowercase. This was so slow that I'm glad most stuff is done via computers now. >.<

Cursive? Blech. I remember having learn that in 3rd grade and we had to use it for the entirety of 3rd and 4th grade lest you be marked down.
