So yeah, I did a song that is absolutely not One :P It's rather The Wrath by Symbolik ; a melodic technical death metal song (subgenres 101), very fun to play, and (IMO) with a beautiful melody :P

If you take a close look at my SoundCloud stream, you'll realize there are only 2 songs that I made myself, one of them being terrible, so you can guess I don't compose much :P I feel like I quite suck at it, so I just play stuff that already exists. I'll probably have someone else work on the music for nKaruga.

IIRC I listened to one of them and I liked them. For a video game you would need to make the tracks much shorter, though, and perhaps loop-friendly. Perhaps one day you'll get even better at composing, but it's not a hurry, since you are already very good at playing music and we already enjoy that :)

Something I've been wanting to do for a long time was to record something from Rings of Saturn, because it's always so technical. So I didn't do a full song yet (because the drums are so hard to program), but still, here's something.

By the way matref, do you play or have you ever played with a band ?

matrefeytontias

I'm in a band right now, but with school and stuff we can barely play once a week.

Oh nice, too bad you can't play together too often though. :(

Nice song so far Matref. Also glad that you are in a band. Hopefully you can play more together in the future and perhaps record some gigs. :)

Alright alright alright ! After countless hours of painful recording, and after finding out I actually have (much) more trouble playing easy parts than hard parts, here's my retake on Utopia, by Rings of Saturn !
I did it part because I love the song and part because I just wanted a full Rings of Saturn song somewhere on my SoundCloud. So yeah :P

Note that I didn't take care of the drums this time, someone else was kind enough to let me use the presets they had made in the past.

Enjoy !

I like that more melodic stuff. Good job and I'm amazed at how you manage to play this long O.O (the song is over 5 minutes long) :)

If you would have done non-death metal genres, then you could have done And then there was silence, by Blind Guardian. :P

It's not that I only do death metal subgenres, it's just that some songs are just not as enjoyable without lyrics. My initial motive to do these covers was that there was this japanese guitarist UtsuP that used Vocaloids as his singers, and many of my friends just couldn't take it. So I replayed some of the songs in instrumental form so that they could listen to it and enjoy it. It then evolved into me just playing songs I like and that I find enjoyable even in instrumental form.

Ah ok for some reasons I always thought that you only liked stuff with growls, but also as long as it was brutal and less melodic if possible. I agree that sometimes it can be hard to enjoy songs without lyrics, though. When it comes to metal I prefer having some. With electronic music it depends of the melody for me.

In instrumental form, though, you can add extra guitar to replace the lyrics, though, so sometimes it either still sounds good, it either sounds closer to VGM or both.

I can't wait for new songs from you
