So I thought it would be interesting to know which one of the MK games you like the best.
I personally grew up with Mario Kart 64 for the most part so I kinda like it, but I also like the SNES, Wii and Wii U games a lot, as well as the DS/3DS games. I never got the chance to play the Gamecube one, though. My favorite overall would be the Wii version and the one I like the least is the GBA game. What about you?
I prefer the wii version, the wii u version is fairly complicated and hard to play.
Yeah that was my main issue with the Wii U version. I like it, though. It's more the fact that when drifting or turning around, the vehicles are really slippery, like if every track were on ice. Just like the SNES Mario Kart. I guess they wanted to cater to Forza and Gran Turismo fans by making it more realistic, but it really makes the game much harder than its Wii counterpart. The Wii game can get a little annoying with the Wiimote, though.
Yes the drifting was fairly hard to do. I was using the pad, so that might have been the problem. :/
Gotta vote for the SNES version since that's the one that started it all :).
I vote for the GBA version (as that's the one I play the most)

Yeah I agree for that, plus even if the graphics are primitive, I like their look. I like most MK games, although I felt that MK8 and SMK cars tend to be hard to control in curves.

My maine gripe about the GBA game is that turning around is almost like if we were playing TRON, where pressing an arrow for 1 picosecond makes you rotate 90° in an instant. >.<
For me it's Double Dash because 1) hell yeah, GameCube and 2) the only other MK I know is MK64 which doesn't have any form of physics simulation so it makes it really awkward to play.
By the way, did they start remaking tracks in Double Dash (eg new versions of SNES and N64 tracks)?
No, that was started in the DS version. The DS version is really good by the wat, worth checking out.
I have to go with DS because that i the only one I have and the wii is the only other that I played, but I really enjoyed the DS version.
I like the wii version most. The difficulty was just right for me during the time when I played it a lot (challenging, yet doable), and I think it has the most tracks of any version I've played. Maybe it's also a bit because it's the version I first played.
I never played the SNES/WiiU/3DS versions though. Maybe I should try the SNES version in an emulator, and I deffinately will try the 3DS and WiiU versions as soon as there is an emulator for those consoles.

Indeed. I wish that online play was still working, but I heard that there were workarounds. Also I hated how long it took to connect to other players (usually 30 minutes) THat said, when I played MKDS online, everyone there was like MLG caliber and I always finished last, while on Mario Kart 8 I sometimes manage to finish 3rd-7th at least. EDIT: Actually, I think course remakes appeared in the GBA game. I just checked gameplay footage and it features SNES tracks.

You should try at least the SNES version. While it might look primitive to younger people, it's still great for its time and it's where Mario Kart started :)
A workaround for the Nintendo wifi connection discontinuement? Please elaborate :)
I don't remember the exact solution, but you can most likely find it on Google and I'm sure that some games are still popular there (such as Mario Kart DS).
Ok, I'll check it out. You probably have to install a Homebrew though.
By the way, Mario Kart 7 has my favorite Rainbow Road theme of all. The next one would be N64 (from which MK7 RR theme is based on) and the original SNES one. Also, the MK7 one was cool because when you moved down to the bottom part of the track at some points, the music changed a bit, like Final Fantasy 6 final boss as you progressed or Zelda OoT overworld.

I, IMHO, find this RR tune is the worst. MK7 has a not-so-good music direction (funky instruments, curious music choices) and this RR's is fine by what it is (N64's remix) but don't have the "Hello, you're KARTING IN SPACE" feeling like the NGC's or the Wii's
I think the reason why I like it more is because of how melodic it is, which is a major criteria I look at when listening to music. That said, I think that song would have been better in the N64 Rainbow Road, because it seems more suited for longer RR tracks.
On a side note, does anyone know if the N64 RR shortcut at the start of the track still works in the Wii U remake? I searched Google and found no relevant results about this.

yeah, I like how you can fly on hang gliders. But still, wii ftw
Another issue I got with MK8 is how they got rid of traditional battle mode maps and replaced that mode with standard races. It takes forever to find opponents on the track >.< plus battle arenas were fun with all the random koopa shells bouncing everywhere.
I just got Double Dash for my little bro for his birthday :D

oh yeah, that was the great thing, with funky stadium and the like :)
I was raised on super circuit, so I have to pick that one. It's so much fun. I remember one long car trip where I played it non stop. Turns out the car trip was a 10 hour ride, so that's pretty long.
Is there a way on the GBA game to slow down turning around? left and right arrows are just overly sensitive for me. I think they wanted to do like SUper Mario Kart, but due to how slippery karts were in that one, they tried to fix it in MKSS by making turning faster.
By the way does anyone sometimes play MK with cheats, not to win but to alter the gameplay? Because I found this video hilarious, especially Rainbow Road XD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyhLJ7GZmhU
Also who would like if infinite blue shells became an item? :P
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzFJ4F3yKh4
Also MK64 had one of the funniest 4th place ending XD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKTO0tavDxw
On a side note, I am unsure if this is staged but otherwise this is a very epic comeback from last position at the end XD (I know he used bullet bill but he was so far behind in the first place)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uR4q3PyuWLc
Also I wish that there was an option to play the original 3DS and the remake of the N64 RR tracks with 3 laps. Currently, they're just a single lap split into three sections. While they would be extremely long in 3 laps, having the option would be nice.
Holyc. *.*
Yep. I mean, he spent the first 80% of the race sucking and goofing around in the custom spots the map author added (eg Minecraft), falling to last place and way behind, then at the very end he manages to reach 1st place. XD
It looked like he fell back on purpose. :P
Yeah that's what I think, especially near the end where he seemed to try hitting that big black enemy thing on the moon. It was still funny to see him become 1st in just a few seconds, though, considering that even after using the bullet bill item, he was still close to last.
I'm unsure if this is fake but apparently someone managed to port the GCN RR theme to MK64 and it sounds quite nice:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjlKGwcAOKk
ANyone knows about the N64 sounds capabilities vs GC? From what I could hear from N64 tracks it seems like that particular track could definitively be real if the user replaced the instruments.
ROFL, imagine if Super Mario Kart allowed 101 players at once:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HBTeP22nkA
XD Wow. LOL. That would be so frustrating. Now imagine if they were all people instead of CPUs. With all those people ahead, you'd be overlapped 16 times because of banana peels!
Yeah that would be insane lol. I think it would be more suitable for a battle game. :P
Definitely. There would be guns and stuff, and it would be called, "Kart Karnage Wii" and the winner would be that one guy who managed to get his vehicle stuck somewhere between some trees on a reverse track. :P
Nah I meant the battle modes in Mario Kart series, where you just use the same power-ups as in regular races.
Oh. Well, I still think that'd look like a hurricane of speeding ballons.
I'm surprised that Mario Kart WIi is the most popular of the bunch(even though I voted for the Wii version)
It probably has something to do with how popular the console was. Mario Kart DS had the same thing happening, but then if you look at the Gamecube and Wii U versions, sales are way lower
http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Mario_Kart
What surprises me though is how poorly Mario Kart Super Circuit sold, considering the GBA popularity. Plus MK8 is about to outsell Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 O.O
MK8 is completely my favorite. All is almost perfect for me :P
My favorite in that CE port of Mario Kart. You know, the one that doesn't exist, but should? :P
Why hasn't anyone mentioned Double Dash for its LAN capabilities?
Otherwise, DS gets my vote since it was my first.
Probably because almost nobody owns two identical game consoles. Granted, the GCN was very small and could be carried around more easily.

Wow, that looks really cool :D A lot of work must've gone in there.
So it appears that Mario Kart 8 has now outsold Super Circuit and Double Dash:
This graph is outdated, but shows sale numbers of older MK games, and according to Wikipedia, MK8 now sold 7.7 million copies. It also seems on pace towards outselling Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64.
Of course, this is unless Virtual Console sales are included in those totals.
Wii is still the most immersive in my opinion.
Loved all versions and played the N64, DS & Wii versions lots ... but the SNES version is the best for me. It was truly revolutionary imo and is STILL fun to play :).
I really want the SNES version but it's quite expensive :(
The SNES one is weird in terms of driving if you are used to newer ones but it's still a fun and challenging classic to play. It had some unique stuff as well.
