Talking about Minecraft, I haven't heard anything about the server that was supposed to be set up in a while...
EDIT by DJ:
CodeWalrus Minecraft server: mc.codewalr.us (Creative)
BosaikNet Minecraft server: mc.bosaik.net (Survival)
Yeah I lost motivation and no one volunteered to provide a host for it so it's kind of dead.
To be fair, with so many servers around and not a lot of users here, it might not necessarily be that active anyway, especially that most people would prefer using different mods from each others. It would also cause server lag if hosted on CW, since we only have 1 GB of RAM.

It depends, a few mods can be fun but too many is just a pain in the ass and you end up not using them.
(Also someone else please split this conversation, I'm too lazy to do it. :P)
Edit: Thanks Ivoah. :3

Vanilla gets boring easily though
If we do ever start a modded server, I suggest that we include OpenComputers. It's a super fun mod about building and programming computers.
Elytras look really fun.

Can it lag a lot with complex computer programs?

Probably depends on the size of the program.
I wish I could offer a dedicated server :/
I just got a comp that acts as one, and is a laptop at that.
I have a free server and can run MC on it, should be able to hold ~15 people with a few mods (~10 with a full FTB pack), willing to start it up if there's interest
Okay, update: Streetwalrus got a modpack running, and he and I are going to play with it for a while. I guess if we like it, we can send the link to it and maybe re-host the server. We use MC forge 1.7.10 by the way.
Here's the final list of mods we're using.
thermal expansion (the whole suite)
buildcraft
logistics pipes
forestry
iron chests
portal mod
ender storage
railcraft
steve's carts
redlogic
computercraft
wrcbe
optifine
notenoughitems + bdew addons
inventory tweaks
hunger strike
For now it's on my PC and it only runs when I play so yeah, not really opening to public like this.

BY advanced command blocks, do you mean like some key macros like people use in RTS games using gaming keyboards? (THeir keyboards have macro keys set to process multiple keypresses in succession instantly)
On Xbox One Minecraft, if you fly up while looking down, holding down the left trigger to place blocks will cause you to place blocks extremely fast (about 12 per second) while moving up. I'm unsure if it's possible on PC Minecraft?

As far as I am aware you can't do that on PC. I am getting a new PC but we are Frankensteining my old one with another and some other parts so I won't be left with a server PC :(

There's probably a mod for that... The amount of minecraft mods that there are is huge, to say the least.

Yeah, and once you get into mods, playing vanilla is just not worth it anymore.
Very true, that is why I like to steer clear of most mods because I like vanilla and I don't want to ruin it <_<

Mods add
a lot of content though. I really enjoy playing those HQM packs, because they often put you in an uncommon situation (Agrarian Skies/Skyblock: a tree and some dirt, BlastOff/Regrowth: a wasteland where resources are scarce)
Yeah, but the only thing about those mods is that their usually is a steep learning curve, tinkers construct, and so on.
I think I might put my own vanilla server up on that spare machine I have once 1.9 comes out.
Ooo... so you will have a server
@Unicorn ?
I do like some modpacks like the FTB ones but I mostly play on minigame servers anyways :P
I wonder if there are any Mario mod?
There is that yellow block mod (IDK what it is called) that is like the blocks in mario.

Yup, I'm thinking about restarting mine. I used to run a modded one.
And I do the same thing, if I'm not playing a game on steam. :P
Will you release the IP to the server.
Of course, when 1.9 comes out. I might think about turning it on just for the time being though.
Great :) I can't wait ;)
If we can't host a server full time, we could at least host a PVp tournament, having the server running only when a match is taking place ;)
With the problem of time zones and different schedule, I don't think a server that isn't on 24/7 would be a viable option to keep people around.
I am suggesting an official PVP turnement - the server should only be up during the turnement, i hope you understand what i am trying to say.
Yeah but if you want to organise tournaments you're going to have a timezone problem, like DJ said :P
Okay I'm bored let's try this.
mc.codewalr.us
It's just a flat world to build stuff on, other more regular worlds can be added later.
As long as it doesn't run off CW server I am fine with it. On the other hand, I hope it doesn't lag like mad like your previous MC server >.< (blocks would re-appear non-stop as you destroy them)
Yeah pretty much nothing runs on that server except Eggdrop, better use it for something.
Well... make sure that Eggdrops don't start disconnecting like mad now, though. :P Anyway an advice I have would be to keep this server different from Bosaiknet. We are affiliate with them so we should probably make sure that ours is different. And make it visible, such as in the first post and how to connect and stuff.
Oh, yeah, that's right. Looks like Bosaik's is on survival mode while this one is on creative mode, so no worries here. Then it's settled, if you wanna play survival you better go on BosaikNet.
Creative mode like your old server seems like a good deal IMHO. Perhaps both could be added to the first post (eg Survival: mc.bosaik.net or whatever it is, and Creative: mc.codewalr.us)
Probably yeah. Anyway, I like creative mode better.
I'd love to try it out, as soon as school allows me
This looks nice juju. I hope it doesn't do like on your old server where the Neritic guys kept destroying our stuff <_<

Bukkit used to have plugins for that, but has been taken down by the DMCA. I believe someone else revived the project under the name Spigot.
Oh yeah, that was one mother of a c move <_<. Though i think creaftbukkit, where bukkit and spigot are build on, is still up.
Wait, why did Bukkit get hit by a DMCA? O.O
IIRC one of the old dev's went salty and blew up the whole project by making some piece of code have a licence where literally every code needs to be open source, including Mojang's.
Pretty much it, that was a problem with licencing. That and the devs probably went to work at Mojang or something.
Yeah i know at least some of the devs work at mojang now
I think I am missing something here...
So basically, we can get a cease and desist letter by making our own project open-source? Or did Bukkit license just forced Minecraft team to make Minecraft open-source in order to be used with it?
EDIT: I added the servers to the first post.

He says that it takes him a whole day to make a minecraft video, and when he made the Don't Starve episodes, he was able to publish 10 episodes a day. If he wanted more views, he could just easily just go to other games. I think he just really enjoys Minecraft and that's what he does.

Was it this thing that kept cluttering my server console? I had to blindly turn off the command block logging so I could do anything.
Also, if you see the server becoming sentient, that was me xD
Meanwhile, the servers runs on vanilla without any mod, so around christmas time, I'll probably implement some select, minimal mods.
At least this server doesn't appear to lag like 57o9. :P I get disconnected every now and then but not that often.
Heh, netbooks sure are perfect for being used as headless servers, they're comparable to low-end VPSes such as the one we use for CW :P
Hostname: pinkiepie.juju2143.ca
CPU: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU Z520 @ 1.33GHz (dual-core)
RAM: 1GB (with 2GB swap)
Attached storage: 160 GB (actually the Linux partition is about 64 GB and there's a Windows besides it I never use, and I have my 3TB storage drive attached to it)
OS: Arch Linux
Internet: 60 Mbit/s link
The only thing running on it is pretty much Minecraft (who only takes like 60% of RAM, I'm planning to switch to a more performant server), Eggdrop and whatever needed to keep a Linux OS alive.
EDIT: The MC server has 2 cores rated at 2659.87 bogomips while the CW server has only one core rated at 4800 bogomips. So yeah it's pretty comparable.

No, it was Iovah's command block script :P
I would request the Lord of the Rings mod, but it's pretty big :P
Use plugins not mods, then no one would have to install anything. And when 1.9 rols out you can use command block mods because the new command blocks don't cause lag ;)
By the way I didn't know this existed O.O

I know Cemetech has a map but ours is isometric. And it has Google logo on it so I was wondering how you generated it. That said, it's not updated in real-time, since the boarded-up house, the well trap and the Nokia 3310 hole are missing from it, and the golden thing is still incomplete, but it's still cool if people wants to see what has been built so far.
Btw
@Juju is there a way to prevent people from modifying parts of our stuff, such as my houses?
We could make it whitelisted so only trusted members could go on. And wow that is a cool map O.O
Right now, the map is generated about daily with Minecraft Overviewer, which use Google Maps. As I said, I'm looking for installing some plugins once I have time.
Ok, I am glad you are using plugins instead of mods :) what do you plan on?

I'd suggest using dynmap, it's super easy and nice. Also, you should change the server icon to walrii https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/how-to-add-a-server-icon-to-your-server-1-7-1-8.6564/ (this works for any server, not just spigot)
What I like right now is that the :walrii: is perfectly visible
Yeah, we can't put anything in the way of the walrii :P
Have some new features:
- Installed Spigot! It should be slightly better now!
- New IRC channel! For Minecraft discussion join #cw-craft on EFNet!
- Server whitelist is now on! Go in Forum Profile on your CodeWalrus profile, there should be a Minecraft field, type in your Minecraft username! Your account should then be activated no more than 30 seconds later.
That's pretty much it for now, if any problems or suggestions feel free to post in this thread :)
Awesome! Are you going to connect theIRC to the chat in the server?
Of course I did.
Great! Can you give a list of plugins you installed?
Quote from: Juju on December 18, 2015, 05:42:02 PM
Of course I did.
Cool, I liked how they had it set up on Bosaik ;)
Right now we have the plugins for IRC and the whitelist, that's pretty much it.
I was scared that account linking didn't work at first but then I realized the site required 30 seconds or so to activate it. You should probably modify the custom profile field to warn about the 30 seconds delay.
Also is it me or the frame rate dropped since this update? EDIT Nvm, it only happens in small window, not maximized.

MultiVerse, if it's still alive, could be added to create multiple worlds which can be assigned either survival or creative.
If not present already, WorldEdit would make a great addition as well, as it provides easy ways to create simple geometric figures,
stealing copying/cutting/pasting regions or regenerating chunks from the seed.
THat sounds like it would work
Wouldn't it be possible to have one area with survival and the other creative, but in the same map? Or would that be out of the question?

Derp, I misconfigured something here with systemd. Should (hopefully) be fixed and it should update next time it's scheduled to update. Something like 6AM EST.
Ah ok. Also I am starting to build a small town in the middle of the map. Feel free to use some of the empty buildings :P (my house btw is the weird diagonal building that has a bridge that leads to the volcano)
So, I may have stepped on the fenced-off mine in the creative world. And blown some stuff up :v

@Max Leiter gave me access to his vps, so i can set up some modded server. I think im just going to take
a ftb pack, but the problems is that i'd like tohave as many mods as possible, but other people might want to keep it minimal. Any pack recommendations?

Do we really need two Minecraft servers when we already have the current one and our affiliate Bosaiknet?
None are modded though <_<
Ah right, true. We should avoid oversaturating CW with servers, though, to avoid spreading people apart too much. This is why not a single Omni Minecraft server took off (everyone just wanted their own little server).
We can always link them together with BungeeCord or something.
By the way Juju, that elevator you made is awesome O.O. I wonder how you do that? And is it possible to make it move between more than two floors?
It's pretty much command blocks. It will work across all floors once done.
Aah ok. I wish I knew how to use them.
Also what happened to the main street in the town? ??? Someone broke it x.x
Pretty simple, you put a button next to a command block, you write a command in the command block like you would do in the chat and there you go. Speaking of which, how do you guys put a button directly on the block?

LOL Cumred did that XD
Also if your OP you can run commands just by typing "/<command>" in chat ;)

Shift clicking will do the job ;)
Thanks, it worked. Anyway, that tower is 255 blocks tall and have 52 stories with a working elevator between each floor, how nice is that?
I'll have to look up the command syntax online, then. By the way, the city has grown very large. The volcano has been replaced with a lower part of the city which will eventually be expanded (perhaps some sort of plaza?)
Also nice
@Juju O.O
EDIT: The server crashed again >.<
Not sure. It's back up now, though.
However, something weird is going on in the Nether. If I set a portal to come back to the overworld, it warps me like millions of light years away from the respawn point so I have to kill myself then respawn close to town.
Also, I setup lots of TNT 24 hours ago in the nether and it explodes forever now, when you approach it. It's weird.

That's how the nether works. For every block you travel in the nether, you travel 8 blocks in the overworld. Multiply by a couple of chunks and you're miles away.
Ah I see now. I actually copied a chunk or two of the city part of our map into the Nether using worldedit and then setup TNT above it, giving it a post-apocalyptic look.
And now the server crashed again (Failed to connect or create a socket: 111 (Connection refused) on http://mc.codewalr.us/ ) so @juju2143 will have to restart it, meaning if he needs to physically do it then it might be down for 1-2 weeks since he's not home until then >.<
I wonder how much RAM and CPU speed the server has?
/me points to a post a few pages ago
If you see the web page, the server is still on, so I don't need to physically be there.
Ah ok, but it shows an error though. Also on which VPS is it hosted and what are the specs? It looks like they're not too great.
Also since it's still down despite you posting this, I figured that perhaps you needed to be physically there. :P
EDIT: Actually it's not that the server is down, but rather the fact I am no longer able to connect
@Juju
I'm on my phone and the ssh app is slow :P
Oh I see. I didn't realize that >.<
The error in game is java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: no further information:
Sounds very Microsoft-ish <_<
Yep, the Minecraft server is down.
What's scary is that I was actually moving a section of the town up (by three blocks) and it crashed in the middle of it, so now only parts of the moving will be done and it will be a mess. >.<
On the other hand I doubt it will be that messed up
Anyway, it's up.
It's down again D:

You might wanna watch out with big worldedit actions. If you select a rigion it says the amount of blocks in that region in parenthesis, you might wanna watch out it doesnt go above a few thousand
Dump the logs on pastebin and let us have a look at it. We might just find why or at least 20 stacktraces.

The flying thing definitively needs to be moved in a remote area. Maybe over the river?
Also I plan to expand the city mostly towards the river, so I might move some of the experiments around to make way for buildings.
Also did you guys notice that the map now has an indoor skating rink called CW Arena?

Is it possible to keep the isometric map with Dynamap
@Ivoah ? It's easier to see what people have built.

Maybe on a new bridge between those two buildings (lava and water one)? It might be best if the walrus is high so we see it from the other side of the street.
Can animating that many blocks cause lag, though? Also I would rather move those buildings a bit closer to the biosphere, since I had planned to expand a bit there.

Dynmap has 2d and isometric modes. Also, we could still keep the overviewer render around since it's much higher quality.
Cool. Actually I think he has implemented it now, at http://map.mc.codewalr.us , but most of the map fails to load properly. :(
EDIT: To the regular players who often build stuff on the map (eg
@Ivoah @Juju @brentmaas @c4ooo @Cumred_Snektron @alexgt @Turiq @ben_g ), it would be cool if you posted about your changes in this thread when you build new stuff and what you plan to change in the future, so that when we are away and rejoin the game later, we know what has changed. It would also make it easier to know where not to build or what not to change. :P
I made some graphically correct walrii's a few days ago. (Yes, is shamelessly used a programthat picked the right blocks :P)

But I'm planning to remove the edit that someone made because he basically drew a swastika on top of it <_<
Also @Juju the Minecraft server is down D: EDIT Nvm
EDIT: Here is a new skyscraper, powered by redstone:
I had to mess around with the time to see the full effect.
WOW Warliitown went up very quickly. Just last week there where only one street and the second one was just being built :P (That i suggest we name c4 street :3 ) I suggest we name the main street after DJ, since none of use would be here without him ( ;D ), and the street between juju's and DJ's house juju street :)
Yeah I remember when it was basically just the main street and nothing else. It really expanded when that one green building next to juju house or something was built. For street names I'll see. I need to make sure to not mix them up when I name them :P
Also, that big skyscraper I built has two light switch, one being in the basement and the other outside. Watch out because it can cause massive CPU usage when using them, since it powers 28 floors >.< and it takes almost 30 seconds to light everything up.

I feel I should build some more things
Ideally, I prefer that politic/religion-related references, especially ones where genocides or related stuff were involved, stays out of the Minecraft server, and remains only discussed on the forums. Stuff like a church, mosquee or synagogue building are fine, but you get the idea.
Ok, I'll stick with building LoTR things.
You should put them on the same side by the way, perhaps aligned with the biosphere and the tower, or behind, since it's possible the city might expand further at some point (although I might eventually scrap the shopping mall that says THEGAME.
So I'll make a row of LotR buildings? Some things are cities, so I think I won't build them.
I also have a big monument thing in the end.
You can always put them behind the other LOTR buildings or in the empty area near the Nokia 3310.
We can make offices in the CW HQ building right? My office is pretty sweet :P
Yes you can, but try to not modify the outside of the building :P

After a Google search, it seems like he might have misconfigured Dynamap to only render chunks in which modifications have occured. I think he should make it render all visited chunks every night, while updating the modified ones in real time.

Yeah that would be better, cuz it's annoying to have to get out every single time.
Also the top of the theater/pong machine can now be used for future building development. There are stairs and a bridge leading to the big platform at the top.
Recommending VoxelSniper (https://github.com/TVPT/VoxelGunsmith/wiki/Quick-Reference) (DL here (http://ci.voxelmodpack.com/view/VoxelSniper/)). They're still working on the remake, but it's functional and a great plugin from a talented group of devs. Pairs well with WorldEdit.
Thanks to whoever moved my Hobbit hole :)

@ben_g earlier the server crashed after an accidental replace command where c4ooo forgot to set one of his positions, then when he did //undo, it crashed and when the server was restarted, a big chunk of the Pong machine was lost D:

I sure hope this giant TNT can't blow up. >.< (although it would be cool if someone made a command block that slowly renders a mushroom cloud with lightning around it. And I say slowly, if possible, with delays or something, to prevent lag)
Step on the pressure plate to find out  but you could check by breaking it open :P
Oh, I know. I managed to get in, then got stuck inside the door because I didn't exit fast enough. Good thing I have the /kill command :P
Also on the road that leads to one of the nether portal, there are now rainbow pigs O.O

That's p4nix' home :P
Obviously it can't blow up. Hitting the button will spawn an explosion sound (which can't be heard from the control room...) and fireworks.
Thanks for setting up command blocks and a better door to Cumred_Snektron :)
Hey, if you want p4nix, next time I get on the server, I can make a door that will only open when you stand next to it and you have the key...
I'm a super command block guy...
Just realized that my Temple thing in the End is gone. What happened?
It got damaged by ender dragons 3 weeks ago :P
I think someone removed it after that <_<
Darn :P
That's what happens when you build in the End :P

You should probably have built it on the main map or the nether (preferably the main map).
Also walruses are multiplying:

I know, I forgot the dragon respawns
@Juju @Streetwalrus @Ivoah @Cumred_Snektron , is it possible that we have a griefer on the server? Because someone had fun disconnecting redstone and removing redstone repeaters on several lower floors of my big tower...
Unlikely, but if youre really worried then maybe juju can haweye in. IIRC itw a bit heavy though
Also we definitively need backups. If for any reason someone accidentally deleted the entire town with worldedit, then it's over: We lose everything. If juju can't perform backups himself, then perhaps he should let Streetwalrus in so he can back the map up alongside the CW database every week? (He has a computer setup for that at home)
But yeah, the redstone damage in my tower was definitvely not just accidental removal, since some of it is far away from the spawn point and on several floors. It looked like specific parts were removed.
If someone just wanted to build an office there and turn some lights off, then perhaps he should just add a switch to that floor so he can turn lights on/off on that invidivual floor?
Isn't there a //undo for world edit?

I got lost in the big tower and came out through the main power switch. I might of accidentally broken something but I don't think I did.
EDIT: Didn't see DJ's second post.

Yeah, but when you (accidentally or not) change huge parts of the world, then it can run out of RAM and crash. That already happened before on the server, but luckily only a part of pong was corrupted and not the entire town.
Yeah, //undo stops working when you have been disconnected for a long while.
Also I found something annoying about Worldedit: The higher the changes occur in altitude, the more RAM it seems to take to process. I once changed 97000 blocks on the ground and it took like 10 seconds, yet 800 blocks at the highest level of the sky would crash the server. It apparently has something to do with how much shadows need to be changed under the selection.
So if you plan to build medium sized structure very high in the sky, then you should use stained glass and only do the opaque block addition/changes manually, or edit about 200 blocks at a time.
Anyway I now built an house in the trees.

It should only take more time, not more memory, so it by itself shouldn't cause a crash. However, recent Minecraft servers have a 'watchdog' that measures tick speed and terminates the server when it goes above a certain limit. While this does make it easier to make scripts that automatically reboot the server when it froze, it also can cause crashes when the server is lagging or doing heavy calculations. If this feature is enabled, then it may be best to either disable it, or set the time limit to something big, like a minute or so.
Ah I see. That is weird.
@Juju server definitively crashes most of the time when you edit small selections above in the sky than large ones on bedrock level, so it's something he should check out (and possibly disable)
Double-post, but I thought I would update you with a screenshot of the new walrus plaza:

Be aware of the world height limit (default: 256, can be edited in server.properties). The game might not like edits above it.

Only to take screenshots. I normally use 90% FOV. :P
Oh :P I use 70% I think
Alexgt, do you think your biodome could be moved to make room for a parthenon beyond the plaza?
Yeah, no problem if you want to move it ;)
Protip: When moving stuff around, always check below if there is any redstone that makes stuff work in the thing, to avoid breaking stuff. Also, I think sometimes moving stuff will destroy all redstone in the area. Also
@Juju you should check what ben_g suggested because this might be why the server crashes on small edits.
EDIT: I have made a soccer stadium, but it's nowhere close to finished yet. You get the idea, though :D
(https://img.ourl.ca/soccerstadium.jpg)
It holds 24,628 spectators. (Probably less once I put entrances in.)
EDIT it now has an upper deck and a capacity of over 40,000
Here is the walrus plaze, with a WIP parthanon:
Looks very cool. :D ALso I didn't move the biodome myself because I didn't know where to move it. We have to redo the roads that lead there and to the tower at some point, so they fit better. Also I think that strip of random redstone stuff and memes should be all used for testing, experiments, art, memes and the like, to keep them grouped together, plus they could act as a limit for that side of the city.
EDIT I mean the highlighted area below:
Wow that is huge! O.O
I think we should expand around my pong machine and ofc towards the river :)
Yeah there are some small spots for smaller buildings near the pong machine and behind. Also south of the town there could be some expansion done there as well. Just as long as you don't build more islands that floats and stuff, because that makes the town darker and not looking as good. <.<
With putting by biodome into comparison with your pyramid it is MASSIVE O.O
Not as massive as the soccer stadium, though. THe soccer stadium is like twice the town size. :P
I guess from now on we should build the city around the stadium and make the stadium the centerplace. :P
Also, moving the biodome caused damage to
@ben_g Portal cube I think, but I could be wrong. It sure cut off Lumina Street, though <_<
I would rather we expand around the plaza and my pong machine >.<
Anyhow, i am wondering if the whole metro system should be scrapped so that i could start over. The first two metro stations where literally on opposite ends of town - and yet only 2 streets away <_<

That could work, although what I think should be done with the Metro is make sure it's well-lit and that the carts don't disappear entirely. Also don't destroy the basement of buildings. Circle them instead. Ideally maybe it should just be one single Metro line as a loop with stops accross it, or it could be a network of metro line that are all connected to each others and reachable in one single spot.

Looks very nice. Also I notice there is some sort of robot or skeleton near the HP Prime. What is it?
I have no idea, since that's the only thing I built.
By the way metro and stuff. Is it possible to lower the bedrock level? I think the world is just TOO flat and doesn't allow nice things underground.
That would be an idea actually, assuming it's possible. Or we could make an higher section of the town somewhere and generate mountains.
EDIT: sadly this would screw up Juju tower, which is 256 blocks high.
That's indeed a good question.
Maybe some world editor can raise everything up 20 blocks or so. The world generator would need to be changed according to that as well.
Maybe just create a new world and MCEdit everything in
A non-flat creative world would be cool too since that allows for more interesting buildings :)
Maybe we could have two worlds, one flat and one normal? Is that possible?
It would indeed be possible in a lot of variations possible.

It's definitively not gonna be done with Worldedit for sure. Just replacing 2000 stadium blocks from glass to quartz would crash juju server, so imagine increasing the height of the entire town in one go >.<
What I'm comtemplating is setting a part of the world away from the town so that it's much higher, perhaps with a cliff or just gradual slope. There are brushes tools to create mountains in Worldedit.
EDIT Also the soccer stadium:
Anyone have any ideas for what I could put in my skyscraper?
you know Mcedit is an offline tool right? You use it when the server is down. (Do a backup btw)
Also if we go multiple worlds, having a survival mode with PvP enabled would be great too :)
It would be a bit of a cish move to start a survival server that competes head-on with the very server we just affiliated with a few months ago, though (Bosaiknet)
Oh, didn't realize that. Guess I should take a look at bosaiknet, thanks for pointing out :P
Still, having a pvp arena for hanging around would be great.

Their server's survival seems to be based around vanilla survival plus a couple experience-enhancing plugins (Towny, iConomy). I think that if you were to do something that can't really be labeled vanilla-like survival (minigames like Capture The Flag or MobArena for example), but still would be a nice addition next to a creative world, it would be fine.

The pantheon is Roman temple in Rome. The parthenon is a greek temple dedicated to Athena that sits on the acropolis of Athens. When i built the building, my inspiration was the Athenian Parthenon :P
And yea, i copied the building into the forest, then blew the roof up with tnt ;)
Oh ok, I thought both were called the same thing, and that you spelled it wrong. :P (since you tend to misspell stuff a lot on IRC :P)
And I see. At least you preserved the house inside the big tree, although the road leading there was cut off :P
It looks suspiciously like my End building ( the part I finished anyways) :P
I was going to make a small building in that style, I guess I'll change the style.
Don't do it in the End, though. <_<
By the way, will you ever finish your hobbit hole?

Redstone computers should go in this area so we can build around existing buildings :P
I've been checking this thread often and it makes me wish I had Minecraft on my laptop. I already bought it twice on mobile (once on iOS, once on Android) and I got it on Xbox for Christmas, and I'm not sure if I'll spend even more money to buy it again (what is it, $20?)
I wish we could play on the same server from multiple platforms, especially mobile+desktop. I could understand not being able too with consoles but at least mobile servers should be accessible from desktop version or vice-versa IMHO.
You might with reealms but you can't play together, just a realms server covers all devices I think. I am not certain tho.
I'm not sure if cross-platform would work too well since PC has features, items, etc that mobile doesn't have (such as pistons and other redstone-related blocks)
True, but it would still be better than nothing.
Who knows, maybe they will implement cross-platform servers once Pocket Edition catches up... if it ever does. Or, when you create a server, there should be an option to make it mobile-friendly.

Sounds cool DJ ;)
On a side note, in Worldedit, brushes are handy to create mountains. Use //brush sphere grass 5 and //brush smooth 5, but make sure to not point the camera away, else it will damage existing town structures since brush lets you edit stuff over infinite distances.
I tried making some cliffs with the tool. They dont look good :(
(http://imgur.com/r7gtX7V.png)
Those look cool for caverns, though. But yeah it can take a while to get it right, especially the brush tool that screws up mountain slopes.
Also I think I will build a massive invisible wall around the mountain area to prevent anyone from hitting the buildings by accident.
@Juju the server and webpage are down
Wish I had Minecraft. :'( *sigh*
By the way
@Juju, although the old map loads fine, the Dynamap one now takes forever to load: http://map.mc.codewalr.us/
I'd like to join the server, but currently I've been borrowing XiiDraco's account (he's a no-longer active Omni member, for those who don't know). Would you guys be okay with that? He's been fine with me using it on servers he doesn't go on, btw, so I'm just trying to make sure it is within the forum rules.
EDIT: 314 posts! (officially PImath now :P)
Yeah, it's okay as long we know it's you.
Alright. Thanks!
Yeah it's fine. Just warn us if XiiDraco ever comes back. I wonder what he has been up to lately, anyway?
Also juju installed AsyncWorldEdit, which throttles large worldedits to avoid crashes, but for some reasons it seems to crash randomly (massive lag followed by crash). I'm unsure if it's a bug or RAM issues, though, because sometimes in the game I noticed that the RAM spikes to the point where there's less than 100 MB left, even when not using WorldEdit. It usually hovers between 40 and 280 MB left regardless of what we are doing.
I'm not sure if I'll ever finish the Hobbit hole or the white marble thing, could you remove it?
I'll leave it there in case someone else wants to finish it. Otherwise we could move it elsewhere. Do you still plan to play on the server
@princetonlion.tibd ?
Also
@c4ooo I moved most of your redstone cannons and stuff elsewhere on the map far away from any constructions (it's on the hill thing between the town and Siphonic's house) because you kept destroying the stuff in front of it and the roads. >.<
Since you made me, i now acknolage that i read your post

Ok well let's not do that, and if you want to do it then preferably copy the stuff you plan to destroy elsewhere or ask permission first.
If people are caught destroying other people's stuff repeatedly without their permission then they might see their privileges reduced on the server or they might be banned outright.

So there was some activity today on the server, mainly Caleb1997 who did fireworks (non-destructive, of course), and there are now elemental buildings there:
Nice! I have not been on the server the past month (or on CW the past week ) <_<
Well i think today was the first time in 2 weeks that someone joins the server. Blame school :P
By the way
@Juju is it me or the web page is down right now?
It's down, for some reason. Stupid finnicky router.
Yay it's back up now. :D
Also now the elemental buildings are taller and I think the town will probably start expanding in that area (it was gonna happen sooner or later anyway). But basically, now the Earth building has a grass field in the middle courtyard, the wind building has a glass floor with emptiness below, the water building has a pool and the fire building has a lava pit.
EDIT: Also
@c4ooo I just found a secret passage in your big white temple O.O
Haha nice
@DJ Omnimaga its the passage used to light the fires in the ceiling ;)
Also, do you think you could put a golden walrus in the middle of the temple?

Or maybe we could use the 8x8 one from Wal-Rush 2600?
I'm trying to building up that while building I had at the end of that road now. I think I can finish it, but making a dome (as per my plans) would be hard for me. Does Worldedit allow domes?
By the way, I was wondering who was _Maedhros_ earlier, then you replied to this topic and I realized it was you. I need to get back on the server.
As for domes I don't think so, but we can build spheres and pyramids. Just don't build them too big nor too high.
We could do a sphere and break the bottom. So all members can worldedit?
and yeah, I'm _Maedhros_ :P
Not all members can worldedit. We prefer not giving the ability to too many people. Even trusted users did major accidents in the past that caused data loss (before
@Juju did backups. In fact, I don't even know if juju still does. He should check to make sure). But yeah, to make a dome, I would need to create a sphere on bedrock level, which would create half of the sphere. Domes should be built away from the city, though.
Also I think that once I have filled the areas around the Pong machine building and some other empty areas close to the stadium, I might start building inside the big pyramidal dome.
Wow. Minecraft sounds amazing! O.O
If you haven't played it then it's worth a try IMHO. It's not free, though. Just don't get addicted, lol. Minecraft and World of Warcraft were partly responsible for the decrease in community activity during their respective release. :P

Ok, I understand why worldedit isn't given to everyone.
My building is in that desert chunk, I think I'll manually make one if it's going to be too much trouble.
Do you mean the Starfleet command or the skull building that has no entrance? I think those might be too close to roads to allow a dome around them.
Starfleet is mine, I meant like a dome roof, but I think I can build that manually without too much hassle.
Good luck, still. Getting it shaped how you want can take a bit.
Yeah, I might just make it a big cube.
In any case, let me know if you would like me to make you a sphere woth Worldedit. Just put blocks on each side on the ground to tell me the approximate dimensions, while keeping in mind to not overlap on roads or something.
Ok, I will.
@Juju the Minecraft server is down and the web page isn't responding either.
The server will be back tomorrow, and with less downtime this time! And probably with an update to 1.9 too! Don't update now, though.
What will improve uptime? And will the map be preserved?
I hope your bro won't take the server down after it's moved elsewhere. It would suck if he was doing it on purpose. >.<
Bump:
@Juju it's online right now, so I assume the server move is complete, right? I hope it's stable now, though, because too many downtimes might alienate players. >.<
It might also be good to look into solutions about MC server crashes so that the MC server reboots after it crashes.
Yep, server move is complete, it now sits comfortably on a stable location, with one less router between it and the modem and no loose cables. (Because the cable was dangerously loose.)
Ah I see. If even that isn't enough to prevent your bro from disconnecting the server, then it will mean he is intentionally doing it <_<
Pretty much :P He's not known for messing up on my desk and using my computer, though.
Ah ok. In that case you could always password-protect it anyway, unless you did the mistake to teach him how to get past that. :P
So it seems like the Minecraft server is back online. Someone might want to tell Markov or Markow on IRC when he comes back, but it doesn't look like he has a forum account so he'll need to register first.
@Juju do you know what happened to the Minecraft server? It seems like the entire server is down at the moment (even the URL doesn't respond).
It should be running now.
What caused the downtime?
Either me being a potato or some unknown force making me reboot the server. Or both.
Weird. You should maybe check to make sure your brother cannot trip on the cord or something, nor tamper with the server.
*sigh* I'd join but iI couldn't not use my hacked client. Watch out for TheWindNinja!
Is every program so beautiful when you create it?
By hacked, do you mean it's a modded Minecraft install or just a pirated client/account to play for free illegally?
Also I don't get what you mean by "Is every program so beautiful when you create it?" ???

Somebody had fun setting up invisible blocks on top of my buildings <_< (in this screenshot I replaced all of them with sea lanterns so you could see where they are)
Also I walled off certain portions of the map surrounding the pong machine and the 6 buildings, so that people don't put redstone computers in the middle of the town (they can put them inside buildings, though)
I start wondering how you even realized there are invisible blocks on top of your bulding... ^^
Is it a creative server?
I've never been on the server myself but iirc DJ said it was indeed a creative server but for members only ^^
(Got to fill in your ingme name in your CW Profile)
That might change if we can convince
@Juju to open the server to everyone and upgrade it to the latest version of Spigot (without deleting the map of course), but first the current buildings would need to be protected against griefing since opening the server to everyone exposes it to higher risks of trolling.
But yeah, for now, go to your Codewalrus profile, click Forum Profile then add your Minecraft nickname to the Minecraft field, as p2 says.
If we open to the public ile be happy to host a building contest ;)
Oh right, the contest. That would definitively be a great idea. An area of the map should be allocated to participants that can only be edited by the author of each entry (so other participants or players cannot tamper with other entries nor accidentally overwrite them). And of course, Worldedit and the like would be disabled during the entire contest.
By the way,
@Juju the Minecraft server is down (the map page doesn't respond at all).
I've basically forgotten about this server since the time my suggestions for a building contest didn't get a solid answer from juju >_>
YEah it would be nice if we had such contest. Anyway I think an issue too is that most people have other stuff to do. Anyway the first thing to do would be to put the server back online :P
Ah, right, I had a power outage the other day and was too lazy to power it back on. Oh well, it's supposed to be on now.
Is this server open to the rest of us? Looks pretty cool.
I dont want to barge in without permission etc
Yes, you just need to put your Minecraft username in your forum profile.
Aight cool. I remember adding it a while back mindlessly and then forgetting I ever did or what it was for. XD
Yeah it's kinda CW's MInecraft server and all users are free to join. Activity is very low but sometimes some happen and there are some times where we hang out there. You can always bump this topic sometimes when others are online and maybe some will join :P
And yeah activity-wise, I think some stuff did happen since my last time there, according to the map, so I'll need to check the new buildings out
I played a bit on the server tonight. Not much but the soccer stadium is larger now :P (almost 50,000 spectators capacity I would say). The extra upper deck sections don't surround the entire stadium, though, else they wouldn't fit with the big buildings nearby, so I just added 4 separate parts.
There's also some little hideout behind some of the buildings next to the biosphere thing.
EDIT: 24628 in lower bowl, formerly 18304 in the upper bowl, now 26204 with the extra sections, meaning 50832 total. No, I'm not gonna increase it to 150K like that North Korean stadium :P
(https://tg.lolis-in.space/file_218.jpg)
I wonder if you counted them by hand ;D
I have to play more minecraft <_<

Still no yes/no answer from juju _._
From experience
@c4ooo,
@Juju doesn't do any CW work or anything else from August to May. I'm pretty much afraid that until school is over, the contest idea is dead. Unless you want to organize it.
Also I want to let you guys know that my Mojang account was compromised on November 8th, which I could revert, but tonight I discovered that my nick was changed in the process and that Mojang only allows 1 nick change every 30 day. So because of the account hacking, unless Mojang replies soon and lift the 30 days limit on my account, I'll be known on Minecraft server as Ambushmentos (the hacker's nickname. His e-mail address was
[email protected] ) until December 8th...

Probably around Christmas.

Well, that sucks.
Aren't you at your grandparents doing extra school work during holidays, though? <_<

Yes, usually.
why school work? isnt
@Juju too old for school already? I thought he was currently looking for a job ???
He had to go back to school because he couldn't find anything in his domain and failed uni afterwards, so he went back to college to study something else. He has a job now AFAIK but most likely part-time and I don't know if it's permanent
nice to hear he at least has something to earn some money now, even if it's only part-time :)
@Juju: How is your parttime job and what are you studying if I may ask? :)
Pretty much what DJ said. Studying multimedia (aka the art of website design) and I found a part-time job in this domain just last week. Looks like they want to keep me full-time once I have time for that. Pretty fun so far :D
yaaay, sounds really great!! :D
web design is lots of fun, thats true
also congratulations for getting a full-time-job offer!!
Really happy for you! ;D
Thanks! :D

Nice to hear :walrii: . Just make sure to not burden yourself, since teachers often told me that we should never work more than 15 hours a week when in school. That and it would suck if you had no free time at all.
By the way
@Juju you should set the default location on the fullscreen map at http://mc.codewalr.us/ (the one that is generated daily around 7 AM), because now it just shows a black screen D:
I was bored :P
(http://i.imgur.com/U5QKxHJ.jpg)
uh, still 1.8.8? Isn't 1.12.1 the latest version? ^^
MAKE WALRII GREAT AGAIN!! :w00t:
Yeah, I should definitely update that thing one of these days.
as it's a superflat world the update should be rather easy as there won't be any changes to map creation :)
Buuut I suppose a true surival map isn't going to happen anytime soon...? :/
@Juju _iPhoenix_ just reported that the Minecraft server is currently down, as in, even the site is unreachable. If you put it back online now you might want to check the server availability again tomorrow, though, in case the snowstorm knocks your power out.
Oooh I did stuff? I just tried to connect to mc.codewalr.us and got everyone's favorite:
(it's still loading, one sec)
(ok it's been 10 min)
...
"Connecting to the server..."
you seriously just waited for 10 minutes for this thingx to connect? :ninja:
edit:
btw is the server already updated now? :)
Yep. I had like 5 popsicles while I was waiting (Keep in mind there is 8-10 inches of snow outside my house) and they were tasty, too!
snow...?
Where the hell do you live? O.O
I usually recreate the world with a new seed then cuz living in snow land sucks a bit...
This is IRL....
I am not able to recreate the earth with a new seed
I did realize that xD
But I was actually serious about where the hell u live. Cuz around here all snow is long gone xD
Only that minecraft reference wasn't ment seriously ^^
NE quadrant of America.

Quebec can get snowstorms from October 15th to April 20th in the worst case scenarios, but the norm is December 1st until St-Patrick's Day (snow pretty much never sticks to the ground before December). Half of our snow started melting over 2 weeks ago.
Server's IP has changed, please wait a while until it propagates in the DNS.
Thanks for fixing it :)

Talking about Minecraft, I haven't heard anything about the server that was supposed to be set up in a while...
EDIT by DJ:
CodeWalrus Minecraft server: mc.codewalr.us (Creative)
BosaikNet Minecraft server: mc.bosaik.net (Survival)
idk if this is still up to date, but anyways
both servers are NOT up to date ^^
would it be possible to update the servers? :)
We're at 1.11.2 while the CW is at 1.8.8 and Bosaik isn't even reachable... (btw still think Survival servers would rock much more as noone actually sticks to a creative server)
nüf :)
I think Bosaik is survival. We chose to offer both (had Bosaik been creative we would probably have made a survival server). Ours is mainly focused on large builds and stuff
yeah but the activity of EVERY creative server pretty much dies off after a few months because there'S nothing to do, nothing to archive, no challenges. It makes the game boring I think :/
While on a true survival world, you can spend months farming and building, just trying to build ur house twice as big as all the others ;)
@notipabot:
@notipa:
@CVSoft: Idk if ur the one I have to tell this, but the Bosaik minecraft server is offline D:
I don't like survival. When you fall off by accident after spending weeks building up an inventory then your entire inventory vanishes in an instant.

/gamerule keepInventory true
And now ya keep yer stuff. :D
alternatively only build close to ur respawn point ;)
Seriously guys, is there any survival world online for CW members that is actually ONLINE right now...? :'(
@p2 our server will remain pacific, so unless you can host a second server that is survival, don't insist (I don't want to have to start giving downvotes for insisting again). Besides, we don't want to restart everything from scratch.
Once our affiliate Bosaiknet puts their server back online (
@CVSoft ) we will get one anyway, unless Bosaiknet is dead
uuh sorry I didn't mean to be pushy about changing anything, I just ment to talk about Creative vs Survival in general and was wondering if there might be a third (hopefully survival) server not mentioned in the first post :)
plus of cause I really hope Bosaik.net survival server is back soon (at 1.11.2?) :3
The world was uncorrupted, I'm not sure if the plugins are 1.11.2 compatible; Minecrafty things are more of a bosaik issue.
By the way, the Minecraft server will be offline for a while due to some things juju mentioned in the safe-haven thread. I bet it's disconnected already now.
Yup. Should be back on around mid-August. Right now, it may or may not be on, but I ain't guarenteeing it.
cow.
@Yuki should rent a $1000/mo VPS and restore a quackup of the old server there :P
