How does the calculator find values of sine (or cosine or tangent)?

Yep, pretty interesting. Calcualtors usually use an approximation based on basic operations and it usually does the job up to the precision of the calculator and it shows up instantly, but I believe, correct me if I'm wrong, some used lookup tables.
  • Calculators owned: TI-83+ (dead?), Casio Prizm (also dead???)

I think I read that the definitions of these functions are implementation-specific, so could be
