Title: Paprium: A new Sega Genesis game from WaterMelon
Post by: Dream of Omnimaga on March 27, 2017, 10:27:42 PM
WaterMelon has been working on a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive beat-em-up game dubbed Project Y for a while and now it's coming to fruition. There's a countdown timer on the game website in hexadecimal: http://paprium.com/

There isn't much info about the game yet, but the screenshots look amazing as well as the soundtrack so far O.O.

Here is an official video of the release:

Also they say it's the largest Sega Genesis cartridge ever created, in terms of ROM size. I might try to pre-order a copy if my budget allows it. You can pre-order a real Sega Genesis cartridge complete with the box and manual for $70 at https://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/factory/projecty_2/

And it's now available for pre-orders! Unfortunately it's $70 USD, meaning $90-95 in Canadian dollars. Also, the game site only shows the Japanese limited edition that is $90 USD so if you want the regular edition or another version you'll have to go to https://www.magicalgamefactory.com/en/factory/projecty_2/

I am genuinely suprised - are these consoles really still getting active development? I might have to go unbury my stepbrother's genesis....

You'd be surprised. A lot of people are making homebrew for every console ever. Of course it's nothing in terms of volume compared to licensed titles during a console's lifetime, but still pretty amazing and it definitely rivals the best in quality.

It depends of the consoles. The Sega Genesis is one of the consoles with the largest amount of homebrew titles I think, while SNES homebrew development is rare.

What would be amazing is if Sega released new consoles in response to feedback :)

I suspect it might be an enemy or a choosable character. What makes me curious, though, is how there are 4 characters with energy on the screenshots. Does it mean the game support 4 players with a special adapter? I know some SNES games supported up to 4 (Secret of Mana supported 3)

I'd been wondering what happened to this project; I've been casually following it for a while. Glad to see it's near completion- and that it looks pretty dang amazing!

Groovemaster303 and Jredd do some amazing stuff on the chip music front, too, and if that sampler is anything to go by the soundtrack is going to be incredible (and technically impressive to boot).

Yeah I agree.I re.ember when they said the release date would be in 2014. I was worried that it would be postponed indefinitely but I'm glad I was wrong. It's gonna be an intense (but perhaps epileptic) game ^^
