Title: Ravenfield
Post by: xMarminq_ on November 20, 2016, 09:59:14 PM
I've been playing this game ALL weekend pretty much.
It's a free unity game for download.
If there is any way to alter the code a bit, I might try to make mods for it, as a illegitimate introduction to unity, as much as I've heard that it is a pain in the a**.

it looks pretty fun to play. Is there registration required or is it an offline game? :)

Aww you've been gravely mistaken in your game choice this weekend, because overwatch was free to play this weekend! /s

Jokes aside, that looks like a fun game, the graphics a bit like Unturned.

I don't mind if the graphics aren't good because in Overwatch I have scaling set to 50% and everything to low settings since my PC is from 2009. <_< I might chekc this game out later

Offline!

So I just checked the video and the graphics reminds me of a mix of Roblox, Minecraft and higher quality FPS graphics (eg the grass). Definitively a weird mix but I might give it a try when I am bored. I tend to not be into campaings for FPSes, though, as I only play deathmatch multiplayer.

I'll definitely check it out.
I actually prefer games with such graphics as they can still be rated safe for kids ^^ (little bit questionable) but better than showing bloody c to children ^^

I think it looks heavily influenced by Battlefield. Paired with the graphics, this seems to be like a nice mix. Is it only offline mode though?
I don't think that would be that funny...

ok I tried it out:
It's offline mode only, the graphics is actually pretty funny (just like in the video) but I have some problems with the controls (how to enter a car / tank / helicopter??)
also the game runs pretty smooth except if you add like 300 bots for each team...
you then still get your stable FPS, but the entire game will simply slow down.
for everyone else who ant to try it out:
different weapons: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
run: SHIFT
fire, zoom: LEFT MOUSE, RIGHT MOUSE
reload: R
jump: SPACE
menu: ENTER

edit: I'm stupid... theres a list of controls on the website... <_<
And THAT, kids, is why you should sometimes read the texts BEFORE clicking play... :P

Played it a lot the last days and it's really sad there are only two difficulty levels...
in one you have no problem killing 30 or 40 bots before they get you, on the other one ur team is overrun :/

Beta 5 is out!
https://steelraven7.itch.io/ravenfield
Type iseegold in the update/changes screen, you get a wicked gold wrench as a tool when you start a game

nice
thx for telling us ^^ Playing ravenfield on a daily basis...  :ninja:

Edit:
The major bug with flying enemies is gone
The major bugs no ally will enter the tank if I'm inside before them is gone
the quad i a great fun driving it around :D
The new gun is pretty nice, omething like that was really missing before :) (its something between the assault rifle and the sniper one)
the team balance option is awesome O.O

If walruses had thumbs, I'd give two of them pointing upwards

It would be cool if we could alter the code...  8)

well you could of cause ask the developer to give yo uthe code so you could mod it in any way you want to, i dont know if he'D accept it.
anyways we got lots of external DLL files we could rewrite.
But the .exe itself seems to contain most of the game's main mechanics, so I guess that might be a problem...

Edit:
QuoteMicrosoft (R) HLSL Shader Compiler 6.3.9600.16384R
lots of stuff from that software is used, I guess we could pretty easily rewrite those parts, but that's be the boring part of it... :/

We could try to find the source code somewhere.

There are walruses in the game? O.O

Also before modifying the game, make sure to check if the license allows it and stuff, otherwise ask the author's permission first.

Walruses are preachers of peace, they won't fight even if you manipulate Ravenfield's gamefiles  9_9

Is that a challenge?!??1?   :blah:
(I could add a different secret tool that changes things to walruses, but makes them useless)

A walrii fight could simply be them knocking themselves out of a map and not dying but rather being out :3=

Also thr enemy team could just be zombie walruses anyway :P

... the idea for teh next generation's top shotter game was born...
blue humans VS zombie walruses...

not sure of bug or feature:
if ur driving a car and drive past enemies they can actually jump in the car on the remaining 3 seats, then shoot you (they dont steer so they can us their weapons) and then witch seats while driving (what you as the player can't do)...
happened to me just now...
was "thrown" out of the car and suddenly two enemies drove off with it...  :ninja:

Edit:
also theres a new bug now that prevents me from respawning - I simply get the menu, click RESPAWN, wait 5 seconds, the nI get back to the menu... <_<
happened on 2 different devices (windows7 and windows10) for me now
Edit2: it's a known bug, and it's caused if the red team (enemies) take the base I chose to respawn while I'm dead^^

Edit3: guess which team is holding this base since over an hour...

Does it really belong here? :P

Anyway, thanks for keeping us up to date on this interesting game!

This game always reminds me of the old battlefields, specifically BF2.
Coincidentally BF2 is free to play with a restoration project.

I don think i heard you correctly, the graphics are quite bad :V Anyways i was shown this game some time ago at school and it seemed fun.

You can literally spend 4 or 5 hours straight shooting at minecraft like characters and still won't get bored of doing it. It's a great game and the rather simple graphics are actually a positive point ;)

About the new ravenfield:
the updates looked great, but I dislike the fact it's only available on steam... :/
Also it looks like they updated the character models, which I don't like either :/

I think the new ones look sick, but I wish if you did a lower graphic setting you could see the little dummies again.  :P

Does the game run at good speed on old computers? There are many recent games that run perfectly on my old machine (eg Paladins) but then there are games like Crysis, T4C and Minecraft that stutters a lot

It has MANY settings for computers.

At my school there are XP computers (seriously WTF) and run it on the lowest settings possible, and it works pretty good

I was wondering because some games have low settings and basic graphics, yet still runs at crappy frame rate on anything more than 6 years old

This game is all about the low poly feel, I'm sure it'll be fine.  :D
