Do you think you would be able to support music that doesn't require external hardware by the way (even if quickly alternating between notes to mimic multi-channel like in some c64 songs)? The thing is that other big sites will be more likely to feature it if it pushes the hardware to its limits without external assistance. Also more people would be able to use that feature.

TIMID support would be nice, though, for those who are willing to build the extra equipment for the resulting enhanced music.

Games / [TI-83+/84+]Supersonic Ball (2013)
December 01, 2014, 08:05:48 AM
Supersonic Ball is a simple side-scrolling platformer/tunnel hybrid where you control a bouncing ball, guiding it to the end of each level. Challenge lies in getting through narrow areas or climbing stuff without bouncing back, and it gets progressively harder to do so as the game progresses. Despite running at 6 MHz, the game features physics, randomized levels, animated graphics (or sometimes grayscale), smooth scrolling and parallax backgrounds. Try to get as far as possible as fast as you can without running out of time to get the highest score! Written in Axe Parser language.

This is version 1.00 of the Illusiat package. Originally written in 2004, some updates were made in 2013. It includes all the Illusiat RPG series (except Illusiat 4, which was completely lost in 2002, with no way to restart from scratch). Even the TI-81 remake (and its cross-Z80 ports), the Illusiat 2004 remakes and the unfinished Illusiat 13 from 2009 are included! The only thing that is not included in the ticalc.org copy of the package is the PC version of Illusiat 5 (which is 1.5 MB large). Late in 2004, The Reign of Legends series made success at ticalc.org as well as The Legend of Zelda: Dark Link Quest. However, you might not know it, but The Reign of Legends series is not the first one from Omnimaga. With this package, you can now experience the series that introduced the world of Omnimaga: Illusiat! Every game in the series except Illusiat 5 features 1 on 1 turn-based RPG battles, long dungeons to explore, side quests, many secrets, and more. Of course the first games of the series are simpler, but past Illusiat 6 it just gets better. Of course, remember that most of those games were made over a decade ago, while Illusiat 13 tries to stick to Illusiat 12 style, so the graphics are ASCII art for the most part.

Reuben Quest is a game that is quite hard to classify due to it's variety. I like to say it's a puzzle game because you have to explore to find items to advance in your quest and sometimes you have to solve riddles. Sometimes, you may have to explore at the same place for a while to figure out that something actually do something :). However, I also like to say that it's a RPG too because as you wander around you have to fight powerful creatures to get strong enough to face more powerful foes and you can interact with NPCs (non-player characters) to get clues. So basicaly it's should be classified as a puzzle-RPG :). This might satisfy people regardless of if they like puzzle or role-playing game! Also, exploring Reuben world and fighting all the awesome looking creatures roaming around will satisfy your eyes a lot because the entire game is in grayscale!!!!!!!!! With the help of Omnicalc and other ASM libraries, this game will change TI-BASIC language forever. All you need is a TI-83+ Silver Edition, a TI-84+ or a TI-84+ Silver Edition calculator (for speed a regular 83+ isn't recommended) with all your RAM and 60 KB of archive memory then you just have to sit down to enter a world filled with mysteries, challenges and revolutionnary graphics. The sequel includes everything that the original game had to offer like the flickerless grayscale graphics and the many secrets plus new stuff like more complex puzzles, more monsters, many plot twists, viewing inside houses, cutting plants, pushing blocks, destroy blocks and more! All you need is a TI-83+ Silver Edition, a TI-84+ or a TI-84+ Silver Edition calculator (for speed a regular 83+ isn't recommended) with all your RAM and 120 KB of archive memory then you just have to sit down to enter another world filled with surprises, mysteries, challenges and revolutionnary graphics.

Calculator News, Coding, Help & Talk / HCWP GMT Edition
December 01, 2014, 07:56:02 AM
So as many of you probably know if you frequent Cemetech, they have that thing called Have Calc? Will Program!, refered to as HCWP. It starts at 8 PM (20:00) New York time on every Wednesday night. It's a Google Hangout-based voice/video chat conference where Cemetech members usually showcases their calculator projects and programming or discuss calculators in general. Some discoveries and achievements are sometimes showcased there first.

However, recently, there have been a new trend where at 8 PM GMT (5 hours earlier), Omnimaga users coming mostly from Europe uses the video conference room to hang out and there are some calc stuff showcased there too. I think somebody once refered to it as HCWP GMT or HCWP 8PM GMT.

I thought I would let people here know because in many occasions, we are at least 4 CodeWalrus members. Just try to not leak the entire site and stuff like what almost happened once, though. :P

I'll probably try to see if I still have a webcam somewhere at one point or a working mic headset, but I usually don't use headphones for long because they hurt my neck due to the extra weight.

Games / Re: Hero Core

That would probably be an idea to submit it there, although it probably depends of how popular Hero Core is, outside the community. The main selling point of this game outside the calculator community is the sound feature, so before submitting it anywhere it would help if the game was mostly finished and that the sound feature was pushed to its limit (eg music that has at least 2 channels or sounds like old Z80 computer games). Normally big sites only promote calc games that are technical achievements and in some rare cases, unexpected remakes of very popular franchises (eg XXR, SSB, Wolfeinstein, nDoom and Portal).

Also I doubt giving a link to big news site right now would be a good idea anyway, considering this site is invisible to guests. :P

Not just yet, but since it's December 1st, we are not starting to use the Walrii avatar. You can say it's Walrii btw.

Also now one challenge will be to get the entire urgent part of the todo list done before Jan 1st (or before holidays in Juju's case since he probably won't have internet afterward until at least the middle of January, unless he visits his grandparents).

Another thing is that now that Walrii is revealed, I'll need to start working on my HP Prime game (since he's the main character). It would be nice to have something from me upon site opening and to promote it (the logo will be in the game).

How did I not notice this before? O.O

This is in Mystic Quest Legend for the SNES (Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in North America) when the giant tree starts moving to a different position. But as you scroll, notice the message made up with small trees in the background.

My main issues with the Skyblog-based calculator sites were:

-News articles appeared in reverse order (at least, reverse based on what would be normally logical). Instead of the newest to oldest, it was the oldest to newest news that got displayed. So we could easily think that the calc site in question is dead.

-Also, everything was located in the news. If you wanted to access the download section, it was probably news #16 or something. It was really weird.

I don't know if this changed, but here's an old TI-84+ Skyrock: http://ti83-84.skyrock.com/ . Honestly, I saw much worse on Skyblog before (and yes, Skyblog became Skyrock a long while ago). At least this site design is readable. It's just that it was weird to browse and not the right place to put a calc website.

I won't blame anybody who had a Skyblog-based calc site in 2008-09, though. Back then, free hosting providers that are reliable in long terms were pretty much impossible to find.

@Street I like that one. It seems to have a bit of dubstep and italo disco influence, btw.

Other / The funny quote thread (NSFW)
December 01, 2014, 06:17:45 AM
Ok so I think it's time for a quote topic. Unfortunately, I don't have access to my old Telegram logs from before this site started, so quotes from the Telegram Codewalrus group will have to be shared by other staff. But here is something from the hidden staff sub-forum that absolutely has to be shared:

XD You guys come up with weird ideas.
And yes people protesting against swearing are a PITA (pun intended).

This was after aeTIos made fun of thanksgiving and turkeys and jokingly brought up the PETA. :P

Yeah I guess. Also lol I was always wondering if the GC had any disk space before (even though I knew if it did it would be very limited). And yeah I had forgotten that the GC used mini-DVDs. I wonder why Nintendo took so long before finally using a common format... <_< (although maybe it was to fight piracy)

Ok so robot.txt is gone now (unless there is another one elsewhere?). Although we are not sharing it ourselves the site will probably have some meta-tags soon too.

Also on Omni I decided to use the Walrii avatar that has the spikes power up to reduce confusion.

EDIT: I also got rid of the orange links in the site theme. I thought it kinda looked nice at first, but now that most stuff is green it looks a bit weird to just have those orange.

Yeah I would have done it earlier if I didn't fall asleep X.X
