I don't think any of my computers had more than 31 days of uptime and it was very rare that they reached more than 9. Considering I always ran Windows, I am surprised I ever had more than 10 hours of uptime, though. :P

Rebooting is healthy for your system, though. A while back Keoni and I had a meet up and we wanted to play Smash on Dolphin but we were getting weird slowdowns. In the end I rebooted and tada, full speed.

Rebooting cleans the swap, unclog the RAM and makes Windows do a lot of updates, so don't forget to reboot ;)

I still think it's bad that windoze installs updates at shutdown/boot. That and you can't see how big updates are and stuff. At least on Arch I can see how much updates are gonna eat. My win7 VM has a full HDD now because windows installed 25GB of updates without me knowing.

Yeah, why in the name of Armok didn't they switched to hot swap updates like *nix distribution do?

What I hate the most is when Windows updater suddenly starts its countdown sequence to reboot so if it says 10 minutes while I am in-game, then I won't see it. I often lost game progress and Starcraft matchups because of Windows update forcing reboots.

At least it's not as bad as in Windows XP where it nagged you every 5 minute asking you if you want to reboot, sometimes right as you were about to hit the Enter key.

Its so bad in win 8, it won't even let you turn off auto update. I have it turned off on my computers running 7 but it's sopoop annoying.

Ouch. That is one more reason for me to not use 8. I hope 10 won't do that or worse.

I hope. I think that you can disable windows update completely but I actually want the updates when I reboot.

I think being able to disable them would be for the best, since Windows 10 is for both deksops and tablets. People with tablets will often lose their Internet connection so auto-updating would be risky for an OS like Windows.

I really don't understand how MS did such a bad job with the Windows update system, there are so many problems with it. Everything is so coupled that you need to reboot when a reboot really shouldn't be necessary, it gets in the way of the user and inconveniences them, is ridiculously slow (what is that thing even doing?!?), and then to top it all off the reboots are really slow too. All those problems aside, their updater is essentially just a package manager except that it is crippled to only manage MS packages. The lack of a real package management system in Windows for so long has really been harmful to their ecosystem IMO. Luckily, I haven't used Windows in many years other than encounters through jobs, so I have the luxury of sitting back laughing at their mess :P

Yeah I don't think all updates should even require a reboot either. What is worse is that certain softwares still requires a full reboot as well and they're not even OSes. As for speed I didn't notice any issue when updating until last year. Nowadays it takes several minutes to do so. Rebooting speed isn't always an issue but if someone has a lot of stuff on his computer, especially stuff that runs on startup, then it can take up to a minute before he can do anything when inside Windows.

At least they do not prevent downgrading to previous system updates like TI does with the Nspire (and tried to do with the TI-84+). If they ever do that then people will be in trouble if a Windows update causes problems (such as me when I ran XP SP2 and tried to upgrade to SP3. What a disaster it was)
