an xbox 360 is really nothing compared to a real server...

if you have a macbook, try to make it run the fan at 5k rmp. That will be incredible loud all of a sudden.
But the servers are still about twice a loud all the time...  :ninja:
its impossible to live in one room with a server (especially phonecalls and sleep is impossible) xD

Edit: back to the topic, I can'T wait for an update :D
Since the project is completed, how about a Full HD video on it ;)

Looks like we got a p3 to make fun of now XD
jk. :P

Aren't Classpad calcs prohibitively expensive, though? When I tried to build my calculator collection in 2009, the cheapest available ClassPad 300 and 300+ on Ebay were $310 in used condition without the instructions/cable/box... (three times what I paid my Clickpad Nspire with the 84+ keypad)
Bought a class pad in mint condition. Was fully working. Got it for 30€. However, the internals were all ripped out (except for the keypad PCB which is reused) to make space for the RPi and new Screen.

This looks absolutely fantastic and actually professional (old school too lol). Nicely done and I'm glad it's coming to frution. How far from being done is the software? What's functional in it so far?
Thanks a lot ;D
The Software is in a very early stage. I might actually start from scratch again, so that the Software might be used in a future community calculator. If so, I would make it open source from the very beginning on. The Software would still be monochrome Screen only, however, I don't see a huge need for a color screen to be honest.
So far there is a simple four function calc that works well, but has no interesting features except for the Keyboard entry which is working really well and seems to be fairily intuitive.
I forgot to mention that I will be porting Claw to it when that one is ready :)

Does the calculator produce some heat by the way? You could maybe add some holes on the back of the case near the sides for ventilation (although I'm unsure if it would require adding protection against dust).
Actually I don't think it produces any heat really. The only suspect is the screen which is exposed to the outside anyways and can cool off easily and the battery charger, which can cool off after the charge. The CPU is not getting warm.
Thanks for suggesting, anyways. :)

Hello everyone!

For many weeks I have been working on a custom and completely hand-built calculator.

So let's start with some eye-candy first ;D

The Software is still in the works and nowhere near done.
For the CPU I am using an STM ARM CPU which is overclocked to 96 MHz. It also has USB, an SD Card, a Serial / IO port, a 2200mAh LiPo, a Status LED, a Nokia 5110 LCD and a 3x4 keypad.

I hope you like it :)

Nice work @DarkestEx , I like what I see ;).

I have started a Rasp Pi project similar to this, I am hoping to make it at about the same form factor as a ti 84+. It will feature a 480x320 Resistive touch display (I could not find any at that resolution with capacitive touch), a super slimmed down Rasp Pi 3 (completely removing the ethernet port, because of the built-in WiFi and replacing the double USB with single high ones), A full qwerty custom keyboard (with the display beeing directly hooked up to the GPIO pins and not leaving many left I decided to use an Arduino pro mini to multiplex the keyboard to save on GPIO, plans could still change though), and a 3.7v 2000mAh Lipo battery.

My goal with this s to have the portability of a calculator and the power of Pi smashed into one. Also, I could hook it up to any TV in my house and stream games to it from my host PC (don't know how well that would work with the lack of an ethernet port though). This will be a long-term project since I literally have none of the parts or the money to order them :P. And instead of rushing it and not having it just right I want to take m time ad plan everything, I plan on using it sooo... :P
Tried a while back. It's a never ending rabbit hole. TLDR: The battery will not fit. We are working on a modified Casio Classpad 300 which fits a Pi3 + TFT shield + battery perfectly fine.

As I have holldays now, I will give the VM another go. Hope I can finish it soon :)

how much do you pay for them aaand if they want to get rid of another load, do you think you could contact me? I'd take a few as well O.O
You could buy one cheap if you really wanted ;)

Btw for the second Calc I am using a currently still fully working casio classpad:

So to clear it up, I am building two calcs. One ti84 and one with the classpad. But the classpad one is not for me.

:'(  :'(  :'(
where do you take the money for all those calcs...? xDIt has to be like 300-350€ for them? xD

btw is the 84+SE still produced? Or are you sacrificing the last ones of a dying species...?  :ninja:
I have about 6 working 84+ and 2 broken ones.
Some i bought on eBay but most ones from my previous school which is of course getting rid of them as Germany is moving away from graphic calculators.

it looks really interesting!! :D
Can't wait for an update @DarkestEx :)
I scrapped about 4 calcs so far for this reiteration of the project.

Nice, is that a backlit LCD? I am curious about if the entire calc keypad will be functional?
No, I will be removing the backlight as there is no space for it. But yes, the entire keypad will be functional. It will even get mouse emulation.

So I have now also created a better graphic of the keypad matrix:

Just compare it with the Sharp one XD:

Hello together!

This is my second go on a Raspberry Pi hearted TI-84+. (Note to mods: I really want to make this a new project without any affiliation to the old so I need a new topic).

I have decided for an early hardware version of the 84+ as it's PCB can be cut smaller than on the new versions.
For the keyboard and power management, I am going to use a Teensy 3.2 that will hook up to the 84+'es matrix.

The Raspberry Pi Zero is the perfect solution for the CPU since it is the smallest and the least power-hungry of all Raspberry Pi's.
For the power supply I will be using a slim power bank or an old Samsung Galaxy S3 mini battery (depending on how much space I have left).

To keep the authenticity, I am sticking to a monochrome LCD, however, mine is 128x64px and has the same physical size as the original screen:

RIP your program
I had a heart attack and i thought Pebble already deleted it.
Thankfully, that's not the case.
You mean Fu--bit, well they implied that they will be shutting it down rather soon.
However, if they are smart they will use the Pebble OS or a fork on their "smartwatches".
Pebble was the only proper smartwatch that you could also program and that didn't completely settled on fitness (eew).
